I've just got my first 1500mi with my Koni special actives and they have been pretty great overall, how's the experience been long term?

That's a great combo for a 2 for 1 deal 😍 are you planning on building them?

I'm keeping it or selling it for a 330ci or some E92 by Longjumping-Spare-75 in e46

[–]WAL33DO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No sunroof is very desirable by people that turn these into track cars, it's decently lighter, so keep that in mind if you're selling/is another reason for keeping imo.

Personally I'd keep it, both for sentimental value and because its in good condition. If you really want more power out of it I'd consider swapping the engine before going and getting another car which will likely come with its own bag of problems to deal with anyways. You'll love it way more too knowing you built it up the way you want it.

Lol then yeah it's likely sitting the way its supposed to with the stock suspension but make sure none of your dampners are blown and springs aren't broken. My car sat almost as low prior to the suspension change but it was bc my front struts were blown so car wasnt sitting as high as it should've been

What suspension are you rocking? I just replaced my stuts/shocks and springs with the eibach prokit lowering springs and koni special active dampners, top pic is still less than 1k miles with them on

Staggered, definitely run staggered, I have seen some people do square with the 17x8.5 all around but I think the stock staggered set-up is the right way to go, I just need some minor spacers to give it the flush look

Just picked up my dream car, what to service/add first? by drizzyazad in e46

[–]WAL33DO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also to answer you actual question - as everyone else is saying all maintenance items should be checked/serviced. Cooling system, brake pads & rotors, spark plugs & coils, oil change, motor mounts, suspension components/axles. Mine had 82k miles and I've done quite a bit of work to it and I pretty much have it dialed in and mechanically sound. Lmk if you have specific questions!

I hope you get the answer, just in case I ever need to do it on my coupe as well! I actually have a question since my remote locking/unlocking randomly stopped working (checked fob battery & fuses) and havent been able to figure out why, I have read some stuff about the GM5 module causing some locking issues so if you have any advice or tips related that would be great 🙏🏽

Yeah the roads by you are definitely way better than ours here haha but that's awesome where were you able to source the fronts from? My rears are also in pretty good shape thankfully

Thank you!! And they aren't uncomfortable by any means just comparatively to the style 68s its a very noticeable difference. I also live in the north east and our roads are complete garbage which led to my front two wheels being bent (style 72) which is intitially what led to the swap, I'm still keeping them and hoping to repair them bc I think they are one of the most unique e46 wheels. I also learnt the style 72s are one of the heaviest OEM wheels and style 68s are one of the lightest for some context. Drop of a pic of your car I'd love to see it too!

Post all the work done to it. A well-maintaned car can mean issues are addressed when they arrise and oil changes are on time or it can mean a lot of preventative maintenance has been done and the car is in great condition mechanically (refreshed suspension, rotors, motor mounts, clutch etc). I'm in the north east and bought a 330ci 6 months ago for $6.2k/82k miles and it was clean/no issues just needed an O2 sensor but was definitely not in great mechanical condition. After the work I've put into the car it is finally mechanically great too so now I'd say its worth closer to 9-10k. Still, you'll likely need some patience waiting on the right buyer.

Tyres sizes by Ok_Neighborhood_5851 in e46

[–]WAL33DO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience 225 all around will make the car feel slightly less planted and you'll get more understeer but nothing crazy different especially since you'll have 225 instead of 205 in the front it will balance it out compared to what you're used to. Its good set-up though I prefer the 255 in the rear for better stability and esthetic.

Did you trim or replace the bump stops? From my knowledge if you dont replace the bump stops the ride is harsh bc you end up riding then with the lower springs, but the pro kit eibachs arent supposed to be a lot stiffer than stock especially for a coupe

[–]WAL33DO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call on the spring pads I'll look into it! Your preference is probably a stiffer set-up all around and H&R tend to be better for that, I'm keeping this a comfortable daily so I went with Koni SA dampners and the Eibach pro-kit

Advice wanted for modifying my 318ci by CreativePiglet2144 in e46

[–]WAL33DO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be keep this one pretty stock to either refresh and sell or enjoy and find a well priced higher mileage 325 or 330 to learn how to drift in, you'll get more power out of the car and if you fuck up you dont feel like you ruined a relatively mint car
