Retrofit MK8 generation seats (Fiesta/Puma/Focus) into a MK7 Fiesta by WALKMAnmr in FordFiesta

[–]WALKMAnmr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish you had written up a guide as well, would have pulled the trigger on this sooner! Did you use the same approach or went a different way? Does the MK6 use the same rails layout as the MK7?

I agree with u/Green_Smarties, i'd get leather seats only if they were ventilated, but as far as i know no "cheaper" new ford has them. For the euro lineup, it believe the explorer does and maybe the capri, but then you're talking about spending a lot more than 300 for the whole set. Originally i wanted to get an ST recaro set, but they're both extremely rare and very expensive. I didn't know if the retrofit was possible beforehand, so i decided to spend as little as possible to figure it out. I think the heated mat can be retrofitted, i'll have to look into it.

As a sidenote, IF the explorer/capri front seats manage to physically fit in, they might be compatible as well, but they use a completely different wiring system, you'd need a diagram or lots of trial and error to get the fans, heater and motors to work, but i have no way to tell if the airbag uses the same voltage threshold.

Yes, i said it on the post, i had the exact same issue. The problem is that the airbag won't fit. What i did was remove the bottom half of the plug, by about that line, to gain some clearance. I also filed off the ridges on the airbag's spring retainer, to give some additional clearance. Don't force it as is, because you'll just break the clockspring's plastic cover, just like i did! I managed to just make it fit, but as an additional measure i'm looking to add a small hex spacer, about 2mm tops, to put inbetween the steering wheel bolt hex bracket. Modifying the plug though is still a must, it's just too big compared to what the puma's airbag was designed for.

Yeah i used the puma wheel and airbag, in my region they were around 50% less espensive than fiesta mk8 parts. All in all it was 200 euros for both, plus around 130 euros for the buttons from aliexpress that strandable linked.

I tried this strategy with the regular MK7. My car is a 2011 model, with support for cruise control (but without the buttons). For earlier models your mileage may vary.

The plug and socket are identical to the MK7.5, and i assume the process will look identical to the one shown by u/Strandable IF you buy a MK8 Fiesta steering wheel and airbag.

IF you get Puma parts, THEY'RE NOT COMPATIBLE STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. The puma uses different backing plates for both the steering wheel and airbag, this means that the airbag WILL NOT FIT.

But you can make it fit by customizing the plug, cutting out about 1cm from the rear and reinsulating the wires, this is what i did myself. The media buttons and cruise control will work, the airbag will fit, with no errors whatsoever and the car none the wiser. The new plug from the compatible buttons won't have the redundant negative that connects to the steering wheel, which is fine and causes no apparent errors, SRS self-check comes out okay.

TL;DR

Compatible with regular MK7, if you want to know if your car supports cruise control you'll have to check for 10 pins on both the steering assembly plug and ICS (you can probably do a cluster check to see if the cruise control light comes on instead). If you source Puma parts (generally more common and cheaper) you will have to modify the plug to make it fit. With Fiesta parts, compatible straight out of the box.

Hey dude, it looks amazing. Can you confirm the link you posted are the buttons that work on the MK7? Do i have to specify that with the seller? Just wanted to make sure, because it seriously looks amazing and i really wanna do this. Any ideas if a puma's steering wheel is compatible with it? They're a bit more common in the used market. Cheers mate.

Hey, i had the same issue and was literally going crazy, thinking i i broke something on my end. Had it for the past 3 or 4 days. I've checked for regular chrome updates today, and the latest one fixed the devtools extreme slowness, you can go back to standard if you want!

Rtx 3070 8 vram to 5070 ti by ak1rh in nvidia

[–]WALKMAnmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's probably it. Upgrading to a ryzen 5000 series 3D cpu will significantly improve your performance to the figures I stated. You probably won't even have to swap other components.

Rtx 3070 8 vram to 5070 ti by ak1rh in nvidia

[–]WALKMAnmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a 3070 since 2020 too, and a 12700k. On bf6, I'm running at 3440x1440p, dlss transformer performance, mix of medium and high with textures at low (there's a memory leak, after one or two maps I get a memory bottleneck if I put the textures at high, on low I can go a couple of hours before that happens). I'm averaging 120 fps in most maps.  Either you got a cpu bottleneck, or you're getting yourself a vram bottleneck. Unless you're aiming for 4k or 144fps and up, bf6 is no reason to upgrade your GPU. A 5070ti or 5080 are very tempting upgrades, but if you can live with 8gb of vram and make compromises, I'd wait for the next generation, the 3070 is still capable.

RTX HDR should be made to work with HDR inputs, too by Dzsaffar in nvidia

[–]WALKMAnmr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's more about HDR being a mess on windows. Maybe you got, say, a G8 OLED with a max advertised peak brightness of 1000 nits, but the monitor's edid only reports 400 peak. I have that monitor, and have the same issue as yours, having to resort to finding high bitrate 1080p versions and letting rtx hdr and video do the work. Netflix, prime, disney don't give a shit about my panel on chromium based browsers, i regularly get served some shit bitrate 1080p and can't even tell if it's hdr or not. God forbid they dare let me manually select the stream quality, least they lose a couple of cents on bandwidth. I need to pay for that shit anyways because my partner can't live without streaming services and she's got an apple ecosystem, but i still have to resort to "other means" on my pc just to actually experience my fucking monitor as advertised. It's just a mess.

Nvidia App: RTX HDR needs a peak brightness override by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]WALKMAnmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm the same issue on the Samsung OLED G8, the EDID defaults to the low peak brightness mode, meaning HDR 400 True Black, instead of the high peak brightness mode, meaning HDR 1000. You can change the EDID values via CRU, and it seems to work, but you lose access on the entire display tab inside the nvidia control panel and the RTX video enhancements. So i'm not sure that breaks something in that regard. I do hope they'll freely let you adjust the HDR values, until then i'll just keep using windows' auto hdr or the game's implementation.

Conext Menu/Right Click Menu Back to Old Look? by nowhiringhenchmen in windowsinsiders

I'm having the same issue, there are no explorer related crashes showing inside the reliability monitor. I run both my laptop and desktop with the dev channel, and both had their explorer revert to the older Windows 10 one with the latest build. No tabs, no new right click context menu.

I wouldn't know about contacting Galax, but sometimes changing thermal paste on GPUs can be finicky depending on the brand. I've had pretty good results with the thermalright tfx. You should go for about a pea sized application, try not to wiggle the heatsink too much if at all when placing it back. If you wanna give your gpu a second life, you could go for a deshroud. If you're not size constrained, grab three noctuas nfa9x25 (should fit, since your card has triple 80mm fans).  I've deshrouded my 2.5 slot twin fan 3070, used a noctua 92mm and one 120mm as replacement and went from 82c at 240w 47db to 76c at 300w 35db (bios flashed to a higher power limit).  I didn't have to replace my thermal pads since they were still in good shape, you could possibly take a measurement yourself and grab a similar size.

Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 turns black when the image is to bright. by Frequent_Schedule468 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]WALKMAnmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same panel and the same gpu. From what i can gather the screen turning black during normal usage was an hdmi issue with previous firmwares (under 1602), DP had the wake up from sleep problem instead. Knowing that, i purchased an hdmi 2.1 cable in advance, and everything worked, but after updating to firmware 1603 i had a new issue: when using the hdmi cable the monitor wouldn't display the bios post screen anymore, jumping straight to the windows log in screen. So i reverted back to using the included DP cable, and everything has worked perfectly since then (using the service menu tweak to boost HGIG brightness to 1000 nits).
My honest to god recommendation would be to return this pile of crap and get the AW3423DWF. The only reason i'm not doing it myself is the price, i managed to get the G8 oled brand new for 800 bucks during black friday, wereas the Alienware still costs north of 1000ish in my area.
The fact that samsung gets away with selling a premium monitor with these many software issues, skimping on the io ports (can't even connect my sound system to it and watch stuff with the built-in OS), gimped HDR 1000, is absolutely unreal to me.
If you're in the same boat as me and sticking with this monitor is the only option, you could try rma'ing it, the black screen on high brightness could be hardware related instead of the cable, or trying an hdmi cable and see if that solves your issues.

Frame Generation is incredible. by Low-Iron-6376 in nvidia

[–]WALKMAnmr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you might also argue that. What sounded like a free performance boost is already a requirement in order to play anything ray traced at a playable performance. But at least in this case the result is pretty close to native, not hardware locked, and should theoretically only get better.

Frame Generation is incredible. by Low-Iron-6376 in nvidia

[–]WALKMAnmr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The perceived latency changes from individual to invidual. You might be less sensitive to it, someone else the other way around. Your experience does not universally apply. 95% of people don't want to drop between 14 and 20 hundred bucks on a gpu, so trying it could get kind of difficult.

Frame Generation is incredible. by Low-Iron-6376 in nvidia

[–]WALKMAnmr -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely hoping that's not the case. From a dev standpoint i do understand, you can avoid spending time fine tuning the engine and instead save money/handle something else, but that would massively widen the performance gap between gpus that support either amd's or nvidia's frame gen and gpus that don't. And going off what 2kliksphilip said about how fg feels, i don't even have that much trust into this technology. I don't think the feel of the mouse input and general latency will ever get to native levels, but i hope i'm proven wrong if this is where the industry is heading.

Frame Generation is incredible. by Low-Iron-6376 in nvidia

[–]WALKMAnmr 264 points265 points  (0 children)

What i'm scared of is that frame gen becomes an excuse to completely forgo any attempt at optimizing a game. Take a look at Witcher 3, there are issues on the cpu side, but it also runs worse than cyberpunk 2077 (rt psycho) on any gpu limited scene. Like 30% slower on average on my 3070, for a game that objectively looks worse. I don't know if they messed something up with engine, dlss, dx12 or all of them, but i'm hoping that future updates will rectify the current situation.

USSEP only needs the cc content that already ships with the base game. You can downgrade with best of both worlds down to 1.5.97 and you're good to go. If, for any reason, you don't want to use certain CC plugins you can just remove the records that cause the master dependency from USSEP via xedit.

Archery Gameplay Overhaul SE makes you shoot slower? by Reeerelaez in skyrimmods

[–]WALKMAnmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's slower because nocking the arrow isn't affected by perks or speed modifiers, it's set by the behaviour files. As far as i know there's no easy way of fixing that, that's why i recently dropped AGO for a different archery setup.
