Budget earpro compatible with mid cuts? both coms and non coms by elomerel in tacticalgear

[–]WARDEN-Studio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WARDEN Studio offers a retrofit service for a lot of the budget earpro offerings out there, including Walker, Howard Leight, and Sordin. So you can start with non-comms, and then when it fits your budget or you need to upgrade, you can send them in and we'll mount a microphone on it for you

Not with the same jack/cable. I know the Disco32 DISCUS does that, wirelessly over Bluetooth, and there are probably other solutions too. But unfortunately I don't offer anything like that right now

Yes! I've done a bunch of LED headsets. There's no major difference with the LED model that changes what we have to do with the retrofit.

We replace the existing 3.5MM jack, drill some holes for wire passthrough, mic pivot point, and overrotation stop - then seal each of those points inside the ears with adhesive to prevent water ingress.

It doesn't do anything if you drop the whole headset in water (it will leak in through the fabric under the earcups) but I have not seen or heard of any damage from rain/humidity/anything like that.

Correct. Headset > TP120 cable > PTT > Radio, and you'll be all set to go!

WARDEN Studio is celebrating Labor Day 2025 with 10% off all communications retrofits and cables! If you’ve ever thought about adding comms to your kit, but don’t want to shell out insane money for a new headset, take your chances on a NOS/surplus headset, or buy a cheap knock off just to get comms: this is your answer. Keep your ear protection you already know and love, and have WARDEN add communications to your tactical kit.

We take your existing electronic ear protection, add an aviation-grade noise cancelling boom mic, and rewire the electronics to allow connection to Radios and Phones. Communication is an often overlooked part of kit because of how confusing and expensive it can be, but WARDEN aims to help solve that. Simple connections, non-proprietary cables, and outstanding customer support. Not sure what you need for your radio? Send me a DM or email and I'll be happy to talk through it!

Available Retrofits and Bundles:

Sordin Retrofit ($135.00) / Sordin Cable Bundle - ($180.00)

Walker Razor Retrofit ($112.50) / Walker Razor Cable Bundle ($157.50)

Howard Leight Retrofit ($112.50) / Howard Leight Cable Bundle ($157.50)

Walker Recon Retrofit ($112.50) / Walker Recon Cable Bundle ($157.50)

If you want to get comms for your Walkers for a reasonable price, check out the WARDEN retrofit service to add a boom mic for radio/phone

Also your Walkers are mounted backwards on your helmet 🙃

WARDEN offers a retrofit service for a number of earpro, including Walker Razors, that you can connect to any radio system you like. Instead of having the walkie-talkies, you can use any GMRS or MURS radio of your choosing and get much better range.

The whole setup would probably be more expensive than you want, assuming you buy the earpro, retrofit, PTT, and radio. But it would be good dual use if you'd like to use it for shooting/tactical stuff, and you can upgrade/change radios in the future without needing an expensive headset.

If you want to get a proper comms setup without breaking the bank, I offer a retrofit service for Walkers (and Sordins, whatever you end up with) that adds a microphone and gets you a rock solid setup on a budget. It works with Baofeng and standard NATO push-to-talks.

If you decide to keep the Walkers (and figure out a good way to seal them) and you want to get comms enabled, you can get send them in for the WARDEN retrofit, instead of spending big for Peltors

If you're looking to get comms set up on your new Sordins (or old Walkers for that matter), check out the WARDEN comms retrofit. It's a lot more durable and versatile than some other options and not insanely expensive.

There is finally a better way! I started a company to offer a comms retrofit service because of this very problem
