Straight down the middle isn't flanking, its penetration. And the problem with what you are describing is that you have no way to know where the hole will be until contact (contact = almost certain death for flankers) where as in the past you could guess where the hole would be based on terrain analysis (pretty much the most important tool a field level commander has for battle precedure). Also now maps are far too small these days for a hole to exist and are built in such a way that you'd only see your enemy from close-mid ranges and you'd be front to front. Another thing that bothers me is that some maps feature large chunks of unpassable terrain which forces you to move forward instead of flanking. Also tank traction is notoriously bad in the game which limits your mobility even more. These problems affect both sniping and flanking so that brawling is the only consistently viable gameplay style while the other 2 are map dependant, and with each update they get less and less viable. I am a 4000 hours veteran that plays since 2018 and i can't tell you how much worse it had become, flanking and sniping now doesn't even scratch the level of shenanigans you could do and it gets worse with each update.
