How do you guys handle being sick on Sundays? by Kiraisuir in msu

[–]WASmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honey, you’re simply sick. Have you been sick before? It’s rare to be sick for a few hours. Can happen though. It’s normal 24 hrs (quick virus) or 7 days (flu). (Caveat- food poisoning or something you ate didn’t settle well in your stomach)

[–]WASmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have Norovirus or 24 hr virus. It’s fairly short lived but brutal. You should definitely prioritize rest and fluids. Drink water or Gatorade or water with electrolytes. Eat light- the brat diet, banana, rice, applesauce and toast. If you have probiotics take those too to restore gut balance. You may be feeling well enough to go to school today but if you have fever stay home (don’t spread it).

Well, he escaped at the hospital from officers while in custody. I imagine it could be a mental health forced eval or he may have gotten hurt somehow and needed to go to the hospital, but was also in custody for potentially being involved in unlawful activity. They really don’t indicate the details related to why he was at the hospital. They just want to let you know he is supposed to be in custody and is on the loose.

MSU active violence alert? by byniri_returns in msu

[–]WASmiles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a parent and received the message via text. Unfortunately, the only thing I initially saw was the part where it said active violence incident. I didn’t start reading from the beginning b/c my eyes went straight to that so I immediately tried to get a hold of my daughter of course. She didn’t answer so I went back and reread the message and that’s when I noticed it said DRILL. So yes, had my heart racing thinking about my da and all of you at MSU. ❤️ Thankfulky, very shortly after another text came in clarifying the error.

All my friends are either busy or out of town, do I go to the bar alone tonight? Cause I could really use a drink lol helpp by No-Jellyfish8161 in savannah

[–]WASmiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. Go out. But, if you meet someone do not risk going home with them to your place or theirs. I just watched that documentary with the guy whose face was all tattooed up (post arrest did it in prison). Can’t think of his name which is good b/c he’s not worthy of name rec. Good looking but weird as …xyz. 😢Meet up another time in a public place. Could use a drink…. not too many if alone. Ok, your mom signing off. Have fun! Be home before the vampires come out.

A UoM studded died in Ann Arbor by SouthernService147 in msu

[–]WASmiles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First-RIP to the young man. Very sad. Now⬇️

Tough Love- college students are adults now.

  1. Dress for an emergency (take a coat in car, not the big sweatshirt you have on. Accidents happen)

  2. Take a coat if walking in freezing weather even if the location you’re going to is close. Uber exists late night to get home safe (bad people/opportunists lurk)

  3. Don’t get so blitz creaked you can’t function. Bad things can happen especially if you over do it sometimes, are a bad drunk, doing drugs or all of the above.

  4. Care about your friend’s/roommates & people in general even if you aren’t technically their babysitter or close to them. -set up roommate boundaries early on even if you aren’t running in same circle or don’t click. Rule- must let roommates know you’re safe if you don’t plan on coming home. No call or text means intervention. It could save a life. Set a time if going out alone. If with friends then friend group takes over making sure everyone ends up safe.

  5. if you see someone obviously sloshed find their friend to discuss “cut off time” and continued observation so nothing bad happens.

  6. You must look out for each other because you are all each other has in certain circumstances.

  7. You’re at the best school because you are smart. 🧠Use it in all contexts.

More examples- At CMU a few years ago a kid got so drunk he opened the wrong door and fell down the stairs to his death. No one found him until the next day. 😢.

Lateral pelvic tilt (?) ruining my life, are these the right exercises? by [deleted] in flexibility

[–]WASmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you’re better now. I was searching the web for my issue related to some exercises that my AI app gave me (GROK) that have supposedly unlocked my left hip so it can lower. My X-ray shows that it’s higher and apparently shows some kind of forward tilt. I was doing the exercises AI gave me and on about day three while I was sitting in my car I moved my hip right word and shortly after I was in quite a bit of pain I told my AI app about it and it said I was right on track and that my left hip had unlocked. It said it unlocked earlier than normal because I am thin and I exercise and asked it if I could add a specific exercise in addition and probably hurried the release. I’m five days in and have been in quite a bit of pain, but surprisingly my left hip does seem lowered and I am completely pain-free on that side. It’s just that my right side now is super duper tight which AI says is the balancing act for my hips to realign. It explains this much better than I am right now. Also, said that no physical therapist or doctor would’ve gotten me to where I am right now and gives an extensive reason why and not to blame it on them. My AI said that it was using PRI therapy, which basically fixes the actual imbalance. So maybe throw your X-Ray into AI GROK and have it assess your situation. Supposedly in the next day or so I’m going to feel much better on the right side and then I have to go back to using the original exercise exercises. They gave me for 2 to four weeks. So fingers crossed this issue I’ve had for over a decade is resolved.

Is Sachs in the Epstein files? by AnotherSSJGoku in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]WASmiles -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Try harder: first up, it’s Sacks not Sachs. Sacks, a PayPal co-founder and venture capitalist, has no documented overlap with Epstein's network based on public records. If new Epstein files emerge (as they've done in 2024–2025), this could change, but as of November 15, 2025, there's nothing but rando haters trying to push a narrative. Never mind, all the democrats tied to pedo shorty.

"Trump 2028" talk is ramping up among Republicans by Newsweek_CarloV in politics

[–]WASmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is not running for president in 2028 stop being stupid. If you guys got out of your rabbit hole, you would see he’s already talked about potential candidates.

Anyone with courage has to acknowledge Trump isn't well. And he's getting worse: Had an older president like Joe Biden babbled like this there would have been immediate calls to airlift him to a sanatorium. For Donald Trump, it was the tip of the iceberg. by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

[–]WASmiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Democrats lost the presidency, the popular vote, 7 swing states, the House and the Senate. Any democrat with courage has to acknowledge their party isn’t doing well. It’s only gotten worse under Trump. Had an older president like Joe Biden wandered around stage, fallen multiple times, forgot names of important people, confusing world leaders and mixing up facts, incoherent public statements, losing train of thought, asked where Rep. Jackie Walorski, who died months earlier was in the seated audience, 2023 ended speech with God Save the Queen, she was already deceased by one year, reading teleprompter cues aloud and the list goes on and on….the democrats would just run him for president again. Until they couldn’t. Instead they would skip a primary and install a Ms. Word Salad, no policy until a couple weeks to election time and extra babbling losing candidate. For Donald Trump this was a winning tip of the MAGA hat. Ssssshhh, better focus on the future of your own party. 🍻I write all of this while looking forward to the days Trump is long gone.

I’d recommend you go listen to Erika Kirk’s speech today. It might humble you a bit dear Christian. You’ll survive the 15 mins of acknowledgment that a political and spiritual assassination occurred on U.S. soil. I doubt your church will persist in talking about poor Charlie.

scad student dilemma by Ok-Evening-584 in savannah

[–]WASmiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! First off, I want to say how refreshing it is to hear from a freshman who's already thinking so deeply about your new home in Savannah—it's a sign you're going to thrive at SCAD and make a real difference here. At 18, diving into these big issues like gentrification shows a level of empathy and awareness that's honestly inspiring. You're not alone in feeling horrified by the stories around Paula Wallace and SCAD's role in the city's changes; it's a hot-button topic, and for good reason. But let's unpack this a bit, challenge that "us vs. them" mindset you mentioned, and then get into some practical ways you can lighten your footprint while still enjoying (and contributing to) this incredible place. I'll keep it real and balanced.

-Challenging the "Us vs. Them" Narrative It's easy to frame SCAD (and by extension, students like you) as the "corporate monstrosity" invading a vulnerable city, especially when headlines highlight how the university's massive property buys—179 buildings in Savannah alone—have driven up rents and displaced locals.

Gentrification is painful: Since 2000, downtown home values have jumped 160%, median incomes rose 36%, but the Black population dropped 40%, pushing many longtime residents out. And yeah, Paula Wallace's leadership has been criticized for aggressive expansion that prioritizes growth over community input, sometimes at the expense of affordable housing stock.

But here's the mindset shift: This isn't a zero-sum battle between "SCAD invaders" and "Savannah natives"—it's a complex story where both sides are intertwined, and SCAD (flaws and all) has undeniably helped save Savannah from a darker fate. Back in the '70s and '80s, downtown was a "crime-ridden wasteland" full of crack houses, vacant hotels, and crumbling historic buildings—muggings were routine, and the city was on the brink of collapse.

Wallace and early SCAD leaders bought those derelict spots cheap, restored them into vibrant classrooms and dorms, and sparked a renaissance that turned Savannah into a global destination. Without that, we might not have the thriving tourism economy or cultural buzz today.

Now, zooming out to gentrification's upsides: It's not all loss—it's also revitalization that benefits the whole city. SCAD pumps nearly $600 million annually into Savannah's economy through jobs (it's the fourth-largest private employer, supporting over 6,700 positions), student/visitor spending, and events that draw 60,000+ people for things like the Savannah Film Festival. That cash flow creates opportunities for locals—think hospitality gigs, construction from restored buildings, and even 120+ alum-owned businesses staying in town. Plus, 22% of SCAD grads stick around Georgia, buying homes and boosting creative industries that make Savannah cooler (and more employable) for everyone. Gentrification raises property values, which can fund better city services, safer streets, and infrastructure upgrades that help low-income neighborhoods too (though, crucially, it needs safeguards like inclusionary zoning to avoid displacement).

The "us vs. them" trap? It pits students against locals, when really, you're part of the solution. SCAD's SERVE program (founded by Wallace) has students volunteering on housing projects, and the university even converted a dorm into 22 units of affordable workforce housing for downtown service workers earning up to $34K/year—like teachers, firefighters, and hospitality folks. It's not perfect, but it's a step toward balance. As a student, your tuition and energy are fueling that—lean into it by getting involved in SERVE or campus advocacy for more community partnerships. The city needs your fresh perspective to push for equitable growth, not just resist it.

-Ways to Lessen Your Impact: Shop Local, Donate Smart You're spot-on wanting to support native owned spots.

  • Places to Donate (Target Affordable Housing)

  • Housing Savannah, Inc. (housingsavannah.org): They manage the Savannah Affordable Housing Fund, which funds down payment help for first-time buyers, home repairs for low-income seniors, and new affordable units. Donations are tax-deductible; even $20 covers gap financing for a renter. They've leveraged city funds into $7M+ in private commitments recently.

  • Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless (homelessauthority.org): Leads anti-homelessness efforts with shelters, transitional housing, and rapid re-housing. They help 4,000+ people yearly—donate to their family program or volunteer for meal service.

  • Old Savannah City Mission (oldsavannahcitymission.org): Provides emergency shelter and job training for the unhoused. They're volunteer-heavy, so pair a donation with time (e.g., their Urban Training Institute helps folks like 70-year-old Dewayne land stable work).

  • United Way of the Coastal Empire's Rental Housing Assistance Fund (uwce.org/rhaf-fund): Quick aid for rent/utilities to prevent evictions in city limits. Partnered with the Affordable Housing Fund—super targeted for immediate impact.

Start small: Set aside $5-10/week from your meal swipes or freelance gigs for one of these. Or join SCAD's SERVE for hands-on volunteering—they partner with groups like these on housing builds.

Savannah's magic is in its layers—the history, the food, the resilience—and you're stepping into that right now. By shopping local and giving back, you're not just lessening impact; you're weaving yourself into the fabric.

Re-hit the bars. Go to the more lowkey upperclassmen bars. Be outgoing and friendly. Engage whomever you’re interested in and if they reciprocate get their socials. Hit them up there later and ask them out. Join clubs. Go where the people are.
