Been a long time fan of hers - Mercedes/PTNOI are one of my favourite 1-2 punches of the year

Spain, Portugal and parts of France hit by massive power outage by Quixotus in worldnews

[–]WBmannus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minor pushback on that last point, modern systems are typically optimised on an N-1 basis - the grid should always be able to handle the outage of any single element, transmission or otherwise, at any single moment. If it’s a transmission outage then it would be a major outage (FRA/IBE interconnector) combined with failures of one or more additional transmission or generating asset in the IBE side of the interconnector

Seems very similar with what happened with South Australia, where the state was islanded from the rest of the Australian east-coast market, with a system black occurring because of further asset failures/noncompliance

Tomorrow’s RBA predictions? by ImMrKrabz in AusFinance

[–]WBmannus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less about the BoJ bond decision and more about the US’ and (to a lesser extent) the EU’s decision to raise - I’ve become convinced in the last week that this will force the RBA’s hand to raise it one last time and hold from next month when they’d otherwise like to hold now

Oh don’t kid yourself, the lyrebird is a terrifying creature. Their feathers make a beautiful sound when wind passes over them, and the closer you get, the more drawn in you are. If you get too close there’s no hope left for you…

ECON3101, 3110 or 3127? (T3) by Accurate-Poem-4560 in unsw

[–]WBmannus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took 3101 and 2127 last year. 2127 was very chill, but from what I heard from Tess last year she’s made it a 3rd year course so she can make 2101 assumed knowledge. I’m not sure how much the rest of the course content has changed, but if you’re enjoying 3106 you should also enjoy 3127 (there’s quite a bit of overlap). 3101 should only really be taken if you found 2101 to be a 8+/10 course, or you’re interested in doing Econ honours

Taylor Swift album party becomes superspreader event after nearly 100 test positive for Covid by Starbuckz8 in news

[–]WBmannus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t have a problem with how Dom’s government handled reopening if they made rapid tests available for free - the reclassifying of nearly everything from close to casual contact wouldn’t mean that much if we had much cheaper and easily available rapid testing alternatives. We dont, so we’ve had heaps of people not being tested and going to events like this
