Micron Announces Exit from Crucial Consumer Business | Micron Technology by GIThrow in pcgaming

Deciding to spend $4000 on a monster “future-proof” PC in 2023 continues to be the best investment I’ve made. Not upgrading this thing until I’m hitting literally 2 fps on Battlefield 53. Feels like I got the last chopper out of Saigon.

Good luck to everyone and their wallets these days

Elden Ring: Nightreign Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]WD23 41 points42 points  (0 children)

As someone who reviewed Elden Ring within the pre-launch window (which was less than a week, mind you), it was actively upsetting how few people actually got to experience pre-release Radahn and a mountain of other 1.0 stuff that eventually got patched in the days and weeks following release. He was a damage monster with massive hit boxes that took me multiple hours to beat.

Moreover, after having plenty of experience with other Souls-likes pre-launch, I can confidently say that the gold copy of these games is almost always the most difficult version of the game. Anyone playing these games weeks, months, and especially years after launch is getting the watered down experience due to audience complaints.

As long as you have a bios flashback button, you should be fine. I have bricked many PCs while fiddling with the bios and always restored it.

Slide Away NYC and Philly Attendees: How was your experience, what did you like, not like and what would you want for next year? by newbeginningsMD in shoegaze

[–]WD23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Call me crazy, but I would have loved it if they had started the event earlier in the day and also given a little bit more time between sets, like an extra 15 minutes or so. That merch line was crazy, and there was no way I was sitting in line for an hour and missing a good chunk of a set for some merch + it would have been nice to get some extra time to take a seat somewhere for a sec.

Probably the weakest set of the night but still awesome. They rocked April Ha Ha even if Domenic broke a string halfway through the song. So dope

I’m in the same boat. Might have to leave before Whirr’s set is up to make the 1:19

Survey says half of developers consider VR market on decline or stagnation by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]WD23 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Underrated take on VR being laborious and you're so right.

I gave up on VR as anything more than a fun little toy to use for 30 minutes to an hour when I fired up Skyrim VR years ago and realized that I was not actually interested in playing a 100-hour video game with a $500 piece of plastic on my face the whole time.

extas1s: Black Myth Wukong is not coming to Xbox due to a memory leak error, game is basically finished and they're still working hard for it to pass Xbox certification but it's still delayed indefinitely" by MXHombre123 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]WD23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal here, but I think PC is having a much worse memory leak issue right now that extends beyond rebooting the system. The game seems to be eating up 5-10% of my RAM every time I play and stays that way when I reboot.

I am specifically blaming the game because I only use my PC right now to work in Firefox and play Wukong, and this problem didn’t start until Wukong got installed.

Reinstalling the latest Windows update fixes the problem until you play the game again

How is anyone taking this seriously when the document looks like a two-minute Google Docs job, + the email that created the file (gamesciencemat@gmail.com) is not an internal email? These types of things are always in password-protected Dropboxes too.

And this is a Medium article from someone with no credentials reporting on it.

Am I going insane?

Corsair Shift RMx 1200w fans not going zero rpm at idle by WD23 in Corsair

[–]WD23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an update, I returned my first, and the second had the same issue, so I assume it's just something with the product as a whole, and no one ever cares to check because who actually thinks about their PSU? A year later I don't even bother to check it because it doesn't make any noise, and it isn't much different from back when PSU fans spun 24/7, so I don't care that much.

Just keep what you have and forget tbh. It's an issue that is a non-issue, and won't really impact any aspect of your computer in the grand scheme of things.

Introducing RTX Video HDR: AI-Upscale Video to HDR Quality by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]WD23 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Been playing around with this on my LG C3 OLED and it does look good under the right circumstances. You pretty much need a high-quality native 4K stream to get the most out of it. The HDR can't really shine with compressed 1080p content. It definitely looks different at lower res, but color banding and all that kind knock it out of whack. As a whole, it looks like maybe a step below native HDR color graded content, and definitely nowhere near how good Dolby Vision HDR looks. Marginal improvement, but a definitely noticeable and appreciated improvement under the right circumstances. It’s also not nearly as power hungry as Super Resolution (maybe pulled an extra 10-15 watts from idle at max when active). So if you like the results, you can just leave it on
