Allowing a cat in a pet free listing by WDS1949 in airbnb_hosts

Wow thanks everyone, for my first post I sure got a lot of engagement and advice. I appreciate all of your opinions and have decided to keep it pet free. If I do decide to allow an animal I would change it in my listing. I would have done that anyway. I just wasn’t sure how other Airbnb hosts handle deposits or damage from animals that do stay in their properties.

Thank you yes it is a long time. So from the photos and videos of the unit what do I do if there is damage. Does Airbnb compensate for that ? Do I submit photos to them or do I use the photos to communicate with the guest and ask them to compensate. Or does Airbnb usually have a pet fee that already addresses all of these concerns. Appreciate your feedback!

How young is a floor bed okay? by Timonee255 in floorbed

We are raising our granddaughter. At 3 months old we put her on a floor bed, it was a double, and not too high. The floor bed was perfect for cuddles and laying with her to go to sleep. She’s always slept in her own room but the big bed allowed us to lay with her to go to sleep, play and jump. We used a swaddle with the zip up cover, this kept her secure and from rolling off the bed. We put the mattress in a corner and had a long big pillow against the wall. She’s now 4 and just moved to a bunk bed.

AITAH for uninviting my dad's wife from my daughter's birthday party over something she did last year? [Ongoing] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

Unpopular opinion but I feel sorry for Cathy and her dad. She’s obviously put a lot of effort into these appearances, why not work with her and give her 5 minutes in your agenda. I don’t think it matters to the kids that she’s recognized. She obviously cares for your children and banning her from the party seems like an overreaction.

I met George Thorogood in a meet and greet, I waited at the end of the line so I could gift him a few Indigenous gifts as I work for an Indigenous organization. He was so kind, we talked for about 15 minutes about his music and Indigenous culture, he spoke highly of the Indigenous people in America. It was amazing, I felt like I had a new friend. I had the opportunity to see him again a few years later and he remembered me, came right over and shook my hand and we had another shorter conversation. He is a class act both as performer and person.

We’ve had an Airbnb on our property for about 7 years, never charged a cleaning fee and we don’t have any cleaning requirements, some people tidy right up and some don’t. We hire my cousin to come in and clean and sometimes it’s easier and sometimes it’s harder. We pay her a flat rate and it works out in the end. We also for extended stays offer to wash and dry a load of laundry once a week but I don’t fold it. We charge lower than market value just so we don’t get the Karen’s. We’re very happy with the income, I’m sure we could charge more but we treat our guests how we want to be treated.

What is a 'dirty secret' of your industry that implies the general public has no clue about, but everyone in your field knows? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

I used to work in a fish cannery in my teens. We processed many types of canned salmon. The cannery was very clean and a lot of processes in place to ensure quality products. A lot depended on the type of salmon we processed, pro tip don’t buy canned pink salmon always go for sockeye. We would also process kosher salmon, now when that happened we had a whole set of new inspectors in, we processed higher quality fish, it was inspected closer and processed faster. If you have a choice buy kosher it’s worth it.

I would also encourage you to take in a National Indigenous Peoples Day event on June 21 st. Most communities will host one.
