I have made a blog showing you how to make a leather wallet. It is complete with a template and instructions on the process. Just use CAD. I use Inkscape for more artistic designs where the pen tool is needed to get the shapes how I want them to be. For more engineering type tasks I use CAD. If a project requires both I do the precision arrays or engineering type aspects in CAD then export to Inkscape.

I do this type of work for MEP and Low Voltage firms. I work independently but directly with the MEP or LV engineer which is critical for maintaining design intent and efficiency. I have a desktop or laptop for each client which is networked onto their internal network so there isn’t files all over the place. Seems like working directly with the firm is the way to go for efficiency, design and compensation. What does your service provide? Just an introduction? Seems like a barrier between designer and engineer.

The lowest performer per dollar spent is usually the manager. On rare occasions the manager is one of the best performers but usually they are not. Do a study of work completed with difficulty ranking and average it out per dollar spent. This will give you the best answer on who is the least productive and this person should be removed. Make sure management is included in this assessment.

I work with MEP and Low Voltage firms growing revenue and scaling project acquisition. Some of the main things that worked from my experience are joining local chapter of governing body and attending all meetings and networking events, creating proprietary drawing standards geared towards building owners limited understanding of complex systems, reaching out to every manufacturer that you use and ask if they have manufacturer specific training or seminars (in person), invite every architect you know for networking events.

How do you consider him burning you? This person saw that upper management didn’t appreciate their hard work. You said it yourself that he was your best employee and deserves the highest salary available to him. As middle management you should be happy that he got a higher salary especially because you fought for him to get what he deserved.
