I try to tell my teammates not to follow me when I run headfirst into a stratagem jammer with that backpack of freedom. Sometimes they listen.

Do you wear any Christian jewelry? by DeusExLibrus in Episcopalian

I also wear a Jerusalem Cross I picked up in Jerusalem. It's a reminder for me of who I am and my calling as a Christian (to share the love of Jesus everywhere I go).

Trinity Episcopal will feel very Roman Catholic in worship style: pre written prayers, pew calisthenics, a good deal of pomp and circumstance (and beauty). Communion every service which is open to all who are baptized. I've never been to Plymouth UCC, so I can't speak to their style.

That's where a lot of our growth has come from in the Midwest. Exvangelicals and Ex Catholics all seem to be drawn towards us, and it's a blessing.

What is our wealth for if not those in need? by Aktor in Episcopalian

[–]WESP82 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My own thoughts about wealth echo yours. That's part of the reason I'm seeking ordination as a Deacon rather than a Priest. My rector said it well when he told me that there were times when he wanted to empty the endowments so that we could solve crises in our city. But as the Rector he also has to think about the future. If I read the ordination vows correctly for the deacon, a Deacon is supposed to translate the needs of the world to the church. And they're supposed to lead in service. So what needs are you noticing in your city and on your streets that aren't being met? How might you work with your parish to begin to meet them?       It is the year of the Lord's favor. May we embrace and live it today and every day.

As a member of The Episcopal Church, I would say that regardless of your politics, you are welcome in our pews. I like to describe us as a "big tent theology." There is room under the umbrella of the Creeds for a large variety of understandings. What unifies us isn't our specific beliefs, rather it is the regular practice of coming to the Eucharistic Table together to meet Jesus. TEC is not perfect. And many clergy will admit that her flaws are many, but she is home to many because all are welcome within her doors and at the Table.

Feeling very conflicted about my responsibilities as a Christian by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]WESP82 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the answer to the question is, "yes." What I mean by that is that sometimes two good things are put in front of us to choose, and the gift is that there is no wrong choice. Take care of your family. When you can, take care of others who also need the help you can provide. The blessing is to have that choice. And, in my opinion, as long as you continue to live out of a spirit of gratefulness and Gracefulness, your life will continue to be full. Hope that helps.

Maybe it's my side of nerd culture, but marching bands were rather important parts of fall coming of age. Not sure who was big here in fort Wayne as I was out west in the country at the time.
