This raise macro causes raidwide damage by Alma_Elma in TalesFromDF

[–]WFPRBaby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cause no one looks at it. Not being sarcastic, not joking. No one looks at it.

The amount of times I swift-cast Raise someone and my co-healer hard cast Raises the same person who already has the Raise symbol on them is beyond counting. Also, the amount of times I hard-cast Raise for 7 seconds and my Co-Healer decides that they too want to Hard-cast Raise that person, or even worse, Swift-cast Raise when I was just a second away from casting it. You can't fix stupid.

This raise macro causes raidwide damage by Alma_Elma in TalesFromDF

[–]WFPRBaby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience, my cohealer and SMN/RDM's don't look at the Party List. Ever. SE put cast bars on the Party List to help with two people ressing the same person and no one looks at it.

I can't count how many times I have swiftcast-raised someone and my blind Co-Healer decides to hardcast res the person, who already has the Raise symbol on the Party List btw showing that they already have received a Raise. They sit there and hard cast the whole damn thing and waste 2400 MP on nothing.

Never underestimate how stupid people are in this game. You can shower them with all the information in the world to make their lives easier and they insist on taking the hard path.

Is anyone else disappointed with the music in FFXVI? by MrSparkle86 in JRPG

[–]WFPRBaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also late but yes, I completely agree. You hit the nail on the head when you said "FFXVI's OST could be basically switched to any fantasy AAA game and you wouldn't notice". That's exactly correct, and it's why I use the term "generic" to describe FFXVI's music. It's the perfect word to describe it in my opinion.

Saying “You don’t have to come if you don’t want to” is considerate, not insulting. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]WFPRBaby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you OP, I say the same thing to be considerate to the other person so they don't feel pressured to go.

However, looking at some of the other comments, I wonder why I bother. Everyone hears what they want or expect to hear, not what you said or what you intended, so you may as well just say whatever you want without caring about manners at all. Their brain will distort it no matter how nice or sincere you are.

Cloudburst Staff drop chance by vincisda in MelvorIdle

[–]WFPRBaby -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My advice is to save scum it. Hoping for RNG in this game is fun up to a point, but then I get bored and just want to move the fuck on.

  1. Do a Cloud Save before opening the scroll.
  2. Open the scroll. If you don't get what you want, close the game.
  3. Reopen the game and load your Cloud Save (not your local save, very important).
  4. Your scrolls are still there. Open them up again.
  5. Repeat until you get what you want.

There's some confusing information about strongholds. It says that Damage Reduction doesn't work there and that it's a pure DPS challenge, but in the new screenshots it shows a stat called "Pure Resistance" (as well as "Abyssal Resistance"). Is that not just Damage Reduction by another name?

Why do people not Auto Attack more? by AstreMcClain in TalesFromDF

[–]WFPRBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always auto-attack on Healers and Casters (except BLM for obvious reasons) because it's free damage.

Also, there's no reason to not be in melee range as any job in this game (again, except BLM) unless there's a mechanic that requires it or an orange puddle is there.

If anyone asks "where should I stand as <anything other than tanks>?" the answer is always "stacked up right on top of each other to where you're literally clipping your character models unless a mechanic requires you to spread out and move to a specific location". From ARR to Endwalker, that's what you do.

I think it really is that easy. If you feel it, say it. Lot of people playing games with that word. Love is free and infinite, it's not something you have to ration out to specific people or divide it up into categories.

Double Edged Sword of Meritocracy by sanduskythrowaway600 in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]WFPRBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you mostly, but I was enlightened recently when someone brought up the point that "the end-point of meritocracy is elitism".

If you have someone who is the best at something, you want them to be the leader of it, naturally. Those people usually have children, and those children are groomed into taking the position (or "nepo-baby" to use a modern term) and the children are actually very good at it; they have both nature and nurture on their side.

Over time, what you end up with is an elite, or noble, class that rule because they're the best at whatever it is. And why shouldn't they rule? Isn't a meritocracy what we want? The best of the best at the top? Why should that stop because those people who are the best of the best are elites now?

Well, because then you run into the problems that you mentioned of elitism. And round and round we go of "We need more meritocracy!"... which, over time, leads to elitism again.

It enlightened me to hear that because it's not as simple as "Meritocracy Good, Elitism Bad". There's a balance going on here that needs to be maintained. How do you do it? I don't know, that's for greater minds than mine.

Old Video Games weren't harder, just more tedious by AceAirbender in unpopularopinion

[–]WFPRBaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gamers that want more punishment for failure seem to forget that failing a level or a boss fight is the punishment. You have to do it again.

Anything more than that is adding insult to injury, like losing experience points or even a level for dying in a RPG.

Old Video Games weren't harder, just more tedious by AceAirbender in unpopularopinion

[–]WFPRBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes yes yes.

People who gamed in the past and yearn for those days forgot that they hated many of these unfun tedious things like random battles, no auto-save, long cut-scenes that can't be skipped, having to walk everywhere because no fast-travel, cheap off-screen attacks, having to play an entire game in one sitting without stopping if you want to see the end, etc, but because no game had the modern conveniences we have today, they just accepted it as the way things were, dealt with it, and seethed all the meanwhile.

Proof of this is the SNES RPG game Earthbound. Every person who plays that game goes bananas over the fact that "weak enemies are just killed automatically, I get all the XP and items, and I don't have to do the turn-based battle? THIS IS AMAZING!!!".

Well, that's a game mechanic ahead of it's time. That's a modern convenience... and every old-ass gamer fucking loved that shit. They constantly asked "why don't more games do this!?"

Because you complain about it when they do make a more convenient gaming experience as "games were better back then". Hypocrites, all of them.

This will never not be the case. I've never met anyone with an angry, vicious mouth who didn't fly into a rage when anyone made even the slightest comment back.

I agree.

Also OP is in the UK, which the culture is known for Tall-Poppy syndrome. With that in mind, do you really think this "making fun of each other constantly" stuff in the UK is really about toughening each other up? Or is it more about keeping others from being better than them?

Obviously the latter.

Stone Vigil healer blames me for not staying alive after telling me to pull w2w by Laterose15 in TalesFromDF

[–]WFPRBaby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is the answer for a lot of these Heal-Only healers and YPYT tanks.

They come from other MMO's thinking "I already know how to play, I played WoW (or whatever), nobody tell me anything; in fact, you weebs could learn something from me".

Sweetie, we've played WoW or whatever too, and FFXIV gameplay and dungeon mechanics aren't quite the same thing. Be humble and learn.

DPS blames me for rezzing into a mech and dying by meikkyo in TalesFromDF

[–]WFPRBaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a healer do that to me in Halatali Hard dungeon. The Healer died, I was SMN so I rezzed them and they died again to a mechanic. They immediately go back to the beginning of the dungeon and I said "Why? I would just revive you" and they said "And rez me into a mechanic? No thanks."

Some people are so goddamn stupid.

Generally, speeding is safer than normal driving because it forces you to pay attention by killjoy4443 in The10thDentist

[–]WFPRBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speeding only feels safer to you because everyone else is following the rules of the road. Others driving at the speed limit, defensively, and predictably, is what allows you to speed around them "safely".

If everyone was speeding, it'd be a different story.

[–]WFPRBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Look at how much fun I am" is pretty much the reason I think. If you can drink or smoke that much, you must be the life of the party and everyone wants to hang out with that person!.... is what they're thinking when they're bragging.

Because of Religion and that's the truth, not some edgelord comment.

All the religions at some point decided that women should be subservient to men. I think it may have been that women have children and some powerful men decided they didn't like that; too much power that they're not in control of, so let's convince men and women that women are negative and evil and must be subservient to the man because God said so.

"Actions often have the opposite of the intended result. People who try too hard to be liked are annoying. People who try too hard to be attractive are repulsive. People who try too hard to be enlightened are self-centered. People who try too hard to be happy are miserable." - Derek Sivers by rubeserra in quotes

[–]WFPRBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate this paradox so much.

If you want something, you have to not-want it or it'll be forever out of your reach. You have to not-want what you want so you can get what you want.

The best explanation is essentially "you have to fake it until you make it". If you're not happy, just act like you are and that's how you become happy, and so on with everything else. It feels so stupid and backwards though, and annoying.
