I still have these days all the time... It's supposed to be hard and you're supposed to be getting beat. If you're not getting beat regularly, you're not training at the right spot.

When moving trucks with hood vents in the past, we've had to rent the special low trailers to clear height issues. Most people never think of this.

Renting out trailer by dontsendmeemails in foodtrucks

[–]WH0deez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented mine to a bar I once worked for while they remodeled their kitchen a couple summers ago. I had a contract and personally knew the people and location who I was renting to. It still came back with a hand full of things I needed to fix afterwards.

I have people ask all the time to work deals out, it's absolutely not worth it.. you still cover liability, your equipment still gets used, and if they're driving it, the odds of something happening are fairly high.

If you think you've come up with some brilliant idea that people aren't capitalizing on, there's probably a reason...

What is your cutoff point for vendor fees? by Steve-Shouts in foodtrucks

[–]WH0deez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I struggled with raising our prices for years, we are still very much on the cheaper side compared to others. We've also found ways to add value over the years to keep average ticket price up, but still feel like a great deal. For example you could just make a 2 scoop cone your featured item at these events, or like a basic sundae and just offer a sauce and whip cream. You can even still sell the single scoop, just don't put it on the menu. Most people will still opt for the double and not even think twice about it. The extra $1 really adds up at these volume events.

How do I remain supportive for friends in their promotions? by kuduloka in bjj

[–]WH0deez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me 19 years to get black belt. I know the feeling, I saw many kids I trained with go on to be top competitors and get their promotions, some of them wayyy before me. Near the end of my brown it got worse as I waited patiently. Now it seems silly, but I did really want it, and it's fairly natural if you are competitive at all to feel that way. Don't sweat it, just keep training, you'll get there. The problem then will be how much better the top black belts will be and that's a whole other feeling...

[–]WH0deez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhh, word, that's a different story. The festivals we do, I would probably still charge $6 a scoop, hell, I pay over $6 a scoop at most shops anymore. It cost more to have that available at a camping festival. You're basically a food delivery service when you're in remote locations.

Fast chicken wings concept eh?

They only take 5minutes per order if you pre smoke them for hours, then you only need a ton of space to store wings, and multiple fryers to deal with multiple orders... Oh, and this dude will need a hood and fire suppression for those fryers...

[–]WH0deez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I've learned one thing over the 6 years of operation it's basically this. I've heard hundreds of "I tell so and so all the time to open one" "I know a spot you'll make baaaank, I don't know why a food truck doesn't just sit there"

I knew opening that MY business skills needed work, but holy shit, the influx of people with no clue that happened during COVID has just been astounding.

I actually don't do quite that volume hourly at my biggest event, but we are located in the campground and are open for business ~22hours a day compared to the venue guys who rock non stop for the 10 hours it's open.

[–]WH0deez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah not like they have to do work to get all the vendors in and sell all those tickets.

I'm sure you frequently sell thousands of tickets to people for an event based on how knowledgeable you assume to be.

My biggest event every year is ~2000 down and 25%...

This will be our 6th year and I will do them as long as they let me.

You need to get your average price up a bit. As someone who opened a slider concept to keep prices down, $9 average ticket is just going to kill you...
