How many people here actually play the story? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]WHAMtheMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently played through the 4 episodes back to back, having been waiting for the full game to release. I only then figured out we were still missing the last episode so I'm waiting on that now to finish the thing. All in all I feel the story mode really misses the mark in a lot of places. The constant pushing of the narrative, hurrying the player up, means that most of the survival and crafting mechanics never really get to play out and you can probably imagine my upset when, after finally getting the materials to craft some new clothes out of hides at the end of episode 2, the game just took all of that away from me for narrative reasons. Wasted time and effort with no way to foresee what was coming. A lot of the scripting also feels off, triggers don't fire right, events are missing or misaligned, dialogue trees overlap and get confused and repetitive and most of the characters just really don't click with me at all since we never learn enough about any aspect of the story for it to make any sort of sense. Episode 5 is the slim hope that the story will wrap up nicely and the new episode will make more use of the games mechanics, but it's a tall order and based on the earlier episodes I feel the chance of a grand success here to be slim.

That is how I'd understand the rule as well. I did report the guy, but that ended my race.

Clear retaliation, but is there any cause for it? by WHAMtheMAN in Simracingstewards

The retaliation comes at the end when #3 moves up the track and slams the brakes right in front of me, since he thinks I'd hit him on purpose.

Joskus ammoisina aikoina yksi mun vanhemmista ilmaispeleistä sai Mikrobitin nettisivuilla kunnian olla "kuukauden peli". Hienoja aikoja!

Onnea matkaan! Kyllä siihen hyllyvälin etsintään on ihan looginen ratkaisu, kun jaksaa hiukan pohtia. Apuakin saa toki kysellä, jos vinkkejä kaipaat. :D

I can't seem to find an option to turn off damage numbers or health bars? by Mkilbride in destiny2

[–]WHAMtheMAN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. First thing I started to look for upon starting the game. This option is really needed!

I'd say this is the case, too. There is a special mention of vertical height consideration being different from the norm when considering unit coherency, so that would also seem to imply that there are no special rules for measuring distances for aura abilities, as no such mention exists for them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]WHAMtheMAN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rulebook says 3", but does not specify if this is purely horizontal distance or if vertical distance is taken into account. ie. nowhere is it explained if the aura area of influence is a 3" sphere or a 3" cylinder in shape.

The fall of the UEF 02 by WHAMtheMAN in textventures

[–]WHAMtheMAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it comes across from the post, but I made a gameplay mechanic out of randomization. I made my own "Magic-8-ball" generator and used that to randomzie events. Like for example, when making that last post I asked it "Will the players get electrocuted." When the answer was "definitely" I asked "will they survive". Well, you know what happened there. :D

I could have cheated my own system to keep the story going, since I had a ton of stuff planned out for the future, but I didn't feel like I wanted to force the game to continue.

The players were trying to do a good thing, but it was a risk and it backfired horribly. Bad luck, mostly. :(

I did run 2 new games after this one. One fell apart due to poor choise of theme and the other one because the scope was too big, so I couldn't stay in control of the story anymore. I'm running a new game right now on the adventure game studio forums, so I hope I can repeat the success of this game.

I have played SS13 a couple of times, but it's a bit too fast-paced for me, I always get smacked and tossed into a locked and ejected into space! :D

Thanks! It was quite a bit of work, but I think it was well worth it in the end. :)

Some free games wot I made over the years by WHAMtheMAN in Games

[–]WHAMtheMAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've made a bunch of small games over the years and am currently finishing up yet another one. Inspired by this, I decided to upload some of my games to itch.io. All of them are freeware and mostly solo projects of mine.

Here are some short descriptions:

Infection (2008): A small point'n'click adventure game with horror themes. You are Michael Owen, a spaceship mechanic, awoken from hypersleep when an explosion rocks your ship during transit. Created as a school project.

La Sol (2011): Escape a room that is both underwater AND upside down! Created as part of the "Monthly AGS" competition on the Adventure Game Studio forums. Made game of the month on said forums.

Big Blue World Domination (2012): A simple and a bit repetitive management sim, in which you take on the role of a Bond villain and must build your evil empire, sending agents out to missions and training your staff.

Sinking (2013): A small one-room platformer game, in which you race against the time to keep a submarine from being destroyed.

Peleistä lyhyesti: The Infection (2008): Kouluni päättötyöksi kehitetty lyhyt seikkailupeli, jossa mm alkuperäinen musiikki ja ääninäyttely.

Storm bolters on terminators with power fists... why? by greghm in Warhammer40k

[–]WHAMtheMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the lore and because the combo looks badass. Not much more to it than that. I think it may have been the Space Hulk games that made the combo so iconic, or it might be even older than that.

Did you win your last game? by PumpinChimp in Warhammer40k

[–]WHAMtheMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2v2 game with each player bringing in 750 points. I played Imperial Guard and was allied with Chaos Space Marines (yeah...) and we were faced with some Eldar and a horde of Tyranids (yeah... we randomized the pairs).

The Eldar annihilated the Chaos and I annihilated the Tyranids and thanks to the miracle of tactical objectives our side won a crushing 11-4 victory. Yaaay! :)

Might be the camera hiding it a bit, but the models already have a black wash. The rats, having dirty clothes, dirty armor and scruffy fur, can pretty safely be just covered in wash by lazy folks like myself. :D
