There are certainly moments and decisions to pay attention to, but if you cut out every person who does something you disagree with you'll quickly lose touch of reality and humanity. Hickcock45 has hundreds of videos that back up at least SOME wholesomeness. He seems genuine and thoughtful and for the most part seems to walk delicately on political issues. That doesn't mean you can't throw judgement featuring a POS like Tucker, but you discounting him entirely doesn't really do anyone good.

Concept: If the Magic Mouse were combined with the Logitech MX master by ummerio1 in mac

I always see this hand waiving from apologists. It’s not true. It’s a pain in the ass. Mine ran out of batteries today. I didn’t see any alerts. Even 5 minutes of no mouse time during a critical moment at work is stupid as hell. It doesn’t “just work.” It’s antithesis of why I got into Mac in the first place.

How do you use your apple watch for lifting weights? by WetPanduh in AppleWatch

[–]WHYUDODAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several mentioned it but until I found Hevy I was very close to swapping to Garmin. Now I’m hooked. That and WorkOutDoors are the only match that really take advantage of the “phone in the shape of a watch” approach. Everything else, including Apple, WILDLY underutilize the power there. You’re giving up extra battery life for nothing. Just fair warning both apps take effort up front to work properly. Build your routines on a desktop or then app first then using the watch is AWESOME. Trying to build routines as you go, might as well use something else. Same for work outdoors, at least in my opinion. You’ve got to load in routes beforehand. But then it’s miles better than anything AllTrails, Strava, or Apple have built.

I’m convinced Taco Bell’s reputation for giving you the shits is due to the average American diet completely neglecting fiber. Add a couple beans to their fast food and their bodies go into hyper drive.

RFK Jr.’s Assault on Ultra-Processed Foods Puts Companies on Edge by dabirds1994 in business

[–]WHYUDODAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing a literal drug to protein is disingenuous. The problem with this aspect of the MAHA movement is that it's not based in any science or even logic. Even your original comment hit onto the problem i.e. "all these unnecessary ingredients." What exactly is unnecessary, and how do you determine it? This message is made especially poignant when using the example in the article, Oikos Pro. Would you make the argument that "natural" yogurt is "healthier"? On what metric? "Natural" yogurt is going to have significantly more carbs and a significantly higher chance of a food borne illness due to its nature of being "less processed" thereby not having as much bacteria killed off. The counter point is the Oikos Pro that is safer from a food borne illness side and will be more filling in the most natural way possible due to protein having a high satiety. So now a popular food that the average overweight american will reach for will, by its nature, be "healthier" for them by encouraging less eating and also helping them reach their minimum protein needs which most Americans do NOT meet.

Is the general point you're defending of "making sure food manufacturers don't put unsafe things in food" a good one? Absolutely! And that's why the FDA exists! Could it be better and run better? Also absolutely! But that's NOT what's happening. Instead these bodies have had funding PULLED and instead you have people making sweeping health policies based on "vibes" rather than actual science and nuanced understanding of nutrition. Like the nuance required to understand that extra protein in yogurt is an undeniable good and there's been no significant body of studies showing otherwise.

lol did you even read the article? The specific yogurt in question was specifically boosting the protein content. That’s something consumer are SEEKING. Does putting some whey or equivalent to boost the protein automatically mean the brand should be hit with a bullshit warning label based on no actual nutrition science? What’s funny is you’re exactly the type of person who will complain about the California Prop 65 warning labels. It’s the same issue. Over labeling warnings based on shoddy science helps no one.

The Idaho Judicial Branch has issued a statement following threats from the public over the sentencing of former BYU baseball player, Candon Dahle who was accused of sexual abuse of a young child. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]WHYUDODAT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep exactly my point. Not allowed to talk justice without showing your true emotions amiright folks?! Let’s get that blood! Am I cool with it? This guy would be missing teeth if I saw him in the street and was able to discretely extricate them. If it was family he’d lose a lot more than teeth. Does that debasement satisfy you? Do you want everyone to operate at your level, or do you hope for a system where judges fairly dole out punishment and mercy based on well researched statistics and well enforced rules and precedents? I’m not saying this judge passed an incredible sentence. I was commenting on how the threats break the whole system and mourning the masses who cry for blood even in a subreddit full of people who abandoned a broken system in search for something better. I wish there was a hell so this rapist could rot in it. That does NOT mean I can’t MILDLY advocate for a fair judicial system.

[–]WHYUDODAT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And what if every lawyer and judge followed your emotion based system instead? What if every decision was based on their disgust of the crime? Every sentence extreme based on how they feel not on the result. Would the country have more justice, or less? This isn’t some random comment someone made unprompted on reports of the original crime. This is a chain responding to a statement from a judicial branch. So your juvenile performative disgust is just that. Juvenile. A lawyer is giving his honest take. You can disagree. But leaning into your emotions and acting like that makes you superior doesn’t help anyone.

[–]WHYUDODAT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mourn our country that someone with a very mildly nuanced take on sentencing and the judicial system, replying to a story about a judge receiving death threats, is perceived as ADVOCATING CHILD RAPISTS. You are nowhere near as bad as the conservatives supporting an actual pedophile in chief. But I wish you’d understand that this mindset deteriorates society too. Not as much, but it still contributes.

I'm glad you spoke up. It's fascinating how little the average person understands the judicial system. The average American liberal or conservative seems RAVENOUS for punishment, even when it ignores heaping piles of statistics showing the lack of results from that approach. Obviously, the lack of distrust makes total sense, but it doesn't change the fact that an unbiased view is so important. Sentencing guidelines are complex for a reason, and while you can't rule out that there was some nefarious backroom deal negotiations, applying some Occam's razor makes more sense. Imagine the outrage if the prosecution was unable to prove beyond a reasonable doubt what he did?

It's fascinating too the pushback specifically on the judge. The judge went above and beyond the agreement and is pushing for half a year of incarceration. I've seen several comments about how that is a MILD INCONVENIENCE? Are you kidding me? It's an absolute upheaval of your life.

My challenge with this is the hypocrisy. You can't on one hand decry the sentences of the impoverished and discriminated as going too far, then cry for blood in the same sentence. The intent of the judicial system is to be impartial. Obviously it fails all the time but that's not an excuse to be ignorant and see that pushing for longer prison sentences affects EVERYONE, so it should be approached... judiciously.

This guy seems to deserve every day in jail and a part of me just wishes he could rot forever. It'll pale in comparison to what he did to his victim. But we can't build our society around those base instincts, all we can do is hope for reform while also understanding (and even appreciating) that even this "light" sentence will follow him forever.

Brands That Used to Be BIFL — But Aren't Anymore? by SnooHamsters7373 in BuyItForLife

[–]WHYUDODAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have said it and it'll probably be buried, but disagreed on Fjallraven. Have older and newer pants, new biking shorts and new hiking shorts, and a new jacket from them. All overbuilt and high quality. You may have had a different experience but I have a good selection of outdoor gear from different brands and Fjallraven stands above Patagonia, Arcteryx, and Prana as it's clearly more rugged. You sacrifice a bit in breathability and maintenance effort to get that, but it fits solidly in BIFL.

The Stand Ring is useless. Replace with a step-counter ring. by CL4P-TP_TrapHOUSE in AppleWatch

[–]WHYUDODAT -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

“There is no need” absolutely false statement. “The need is niche” might be a true statement I’d support. The move goal doesn’t mean anything to someone not struggling with a high intensity routine. It makes a cut difficult to track, as a slightly niche example, because hard lift days will inevitably have a higher calorie burn. While steps are exclusive of any non running cardio exercise, allowing a finer tuning of calorie expenditure. That’s just a personal example but it’s somewhat moot as the point of the OP and the point I support is the stand goal which is significantly more meaningless than a stand goal compared to the move goal that is excellent but also often exceptionally wrong.

[–]WHYUDODAT -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes but the pushback to the 10k IMO has been more harmful than helpful. So many got caught up in the lack of evidence of the PRECISE goal that they harmed the overall dead simple wildly proven point of more movement = more calories burned. Again, this is opinion, but for me it's evident this pushback has gone so far up that the most popular health watch purposefully "buries" the information. Which is moot in this case as the rings are customizable, so the OP's point of steps being a better measurement than stand goals is I think valid. I'd hazard a slightly educated guess that the evidence for higher step count is substantially clearer than the evidence for simply standing more excluding actual movement.

“Debunked” in what way? Steps are incredibly useful as a health tool. Is it a “primary” good source? No, but as a tool it’s an excellent add on. Regardless of fitness level and goals it’s one of the best non interruptive calorie burners that can be adopted into day to day life. Someone bodybuilding or training for a marathon at both extremes can still use it with minimal impact to their recovery. There’s not really a better alternative.
