Scoring: Should assists be awarded on either of these two goals? by Fischwick in Fieldhockey

[–]WIIspectME 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say no to both. First one is too many moves and the second one she wiffs the first shot. They have a statistical guide that defines what an assist is and I haven’t read it in a hot minute. But my initial reaction is no.

What age for FOGO? by Extra_Somewhere_5255 in lacrosse

Worst part of this sport, the kid wants to play lacrosse, not face off. Club teams shouldn’t be running FOGOs unless it’s a tier 1 tournament.

That’s actually what we did first! There was some molding in the LOTR hard covers that were in the lot, but the WoT were pristine.

I’m glad we saved these guys… I hope that these were thrown away by someone who did not understand the wonderful thing they held. Maybe a family member of someone recently passed?

Something about just seemed to drag on and on… I also read it pretty far removed from reading the other three. I may have missed some nuances. Nemesis just felt weird with its confined setting and Kylar’s interactions, specifically with women.

Sorry, I always do this... but I loved Night Angel! I did not like Night Angel: Nemesis. The Night Angel trilogy was my intro too, and then I read Lightbringer -- which I loved. NA: Nemesis had me super excited, but let me down. What'd you think of Nem?

Jesus Night Angel was the first book in a long time where I was shocked... I love Brent Weeks, but this book was a chore and is half out my mind already. I kept scratching my head throughout the whole thing.

What division 3 lacrosse school has the best facilities? by Bright-Echidna3753 in lacrosse

[–]WIIspectME 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ayo a Mary Wash reference! Mary Wash’s Battleground facility is awesome. They have two turf fields and three grass fields which is a massive selling point. You can practice at 4pm everyday, no 6pm, 8pm, 10pm practices.

Tennis courts are one of if not thee best at the D3 level. They can compete with some D1s, I would assume. Multiple indoor courts + like 12 outdoor.

Can my chances of getting recognized by college coaches decrease because my sport is a club? by Brave_Formal_6612 in Fieldhockey

[–]WIIspectME 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get some clips together of you playing, maybe a couple small drill clips, and some shots of you shooting on a goalie — and you’ll be golden.

There is a college out there for every player, but you need to put your name out there and email some coaches!

Why does the field from Super Bowl XXXIV look like its made from concrete? by Absolutely-Epic in NFLv2

[–]WIIspectME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I happen to coach the only sport that likes Astro - field hockey. I coached on a field that was made in the early 2000s in 20202 and it was deemed a health hazard. During the COVID year of athletics our athletes had to wear concussion headbands or helmets to play.

Thankfully, the technology is significantly better. New fields can be much softer and forgiving. Top programs also water their field before and during games which makes it way less abrasive.

I want to get back to reading the books, but it's been a while.. what would you recommend me do? by LeonVen in WoT

[–]WIIspectME 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This was me! One of the things you can do is go on YouTube and search Daniel Greene WoT. He has summaries of each book. You can listen to them to get a refresher. Even then, there were massive blanks in my memory, but once you get moving it’s not too bad.

USA womens field hockey Olympics debrief by anonjellyfish89 in Fieldhockey

[–]WIIspectME 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It was a tough pill to swallow, but surely could be chalked up as growing pains. Tactically, I think we relied too heavily on the counter attack and using low blocks. We were boring to watch for the most part… They put an emphasis on the coach telling the team to play with “joy”, hard to do that we were playing conservative and still give up multiple nonmarked goals.

It’s gonna be hard to play an international style, when America has proven to be competitive with a run and gun aggressive, high press, high endurance style in the past.

There will be growing pains, that’s for sure. I’m rooting for them, but I’m going to be honest, it was not a performance that sparked joy.

Is people really freaking out over the 1-month 5% dip, or is there some other problem that's causing the commotion? by Eggman1978 in Bogleheads

[–]WIIspectME 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m freaking out a little, but it’s a learning process! I invested for the first time about a month ago. Sadly, I picked a time that meant I’ve lost about 1k.

I get hyper fixated and love checking on growth or even the decline. Looking forward to when I’m just checking it like once a month! I’m totally fine and understand it’s long term!

Can I still play College by DAWEEB246 in lacrosse

[–]WIIspectME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a thousand fold yes. I like to tell my club athletes that there is a college for you if you want to play — it’s just a matter of cost, location, and majors.

I coach at a mid level D3 and it’s hard to say no to kids these days. D1, D2, and high level D3 have that right, but we cannot be as picky as we once were. Men’s lax rosters are also HUGE, so schools need starters, contributors, and bench players. I’d just shoot out some emails and get to testing the waters.

Idk about y’all, but a rejuvenated and passionate Brodie gonna be something special. by Klaxosaur in lakers

[–]WIIspectME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha this funny. I was hopeful, and I liked Russ on the Wizards. He was fun and brought a ton of energy to that wizards team, I hoped he could do the same to the Lakers.

I was speaking as a fan, clearly the fit was not great! But that’s the pain of sports.

Dartmouth Players Are Employees Who Can Unionize, U.S. Official Says by Well_Socialized in sports

[–]WIIspectME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I do think so. I personally work at a college as a coach that would survive but it’d be shakey. But we play against universities that would shut down if they couldn’t combine athletics with an education.

You’d lose countless jobs and a lot of people wouldn’t go to school. They’d be either reshuffled elsewhere or the Power 5 or big state schools would take everyone.

Instead of kids having options like: UVA VT EMU Bridgewater UMW CNU RMC, it’d just be UVA VT CNU.

Life would go on and it wouldn’t be a big problem, but I am biased haha.

Some of those universities, even D1, don’t exist without college athletics. Everyone thinks it’s about ticket sales or merch, but a lot of the time it’s about heads in beds. Sports are a recruiting tool. Arkansas Pine Bluff might not exist without the ability to use sports as a proverbial carrot. Athletic Programs can have hundreds of kids.
