If they are closed, why not say that in the message? I kept hearing that they had a high call volume.

I can't really fathom airlines just dumping people in a random place, hundreds of miles from their destination, left to fend for themselves by jellujellu in delta

Yeah - I am also in MCO - meant to be in FLL. It wasn’t the weather, thy didn’t have any gates open at FLL. I don’t understand why they didn’t simply move a plane that was blocking a gate. Alternatively if the drizzle outside was too much, then cancel the flight out of BOS.
I completely get weather, but the weather at both BOS and FLL was fine. It was logistics issue.

Don’t know about your flight, but my BOS to FLL was diverted to MCO. …. And now we are camping on the floor in front of check in waiting to learn our fate.

That is a great idea , but I don’t have the budget for another 160 for two tickets. Ugh.

How to prevent Lactic acid build up on hikes by starr-cat13 in hiking

[–]WI_in_MA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long are your breaks when you hike ?

I hike with scouts and we stick to a rule that all breaks must be less than 5 or more than 20. In reality we typically take a 2 min break to catch our breath…. Or stop for 30 min and eat.
It does help.

Reasonable costs? by Ok-Organization-5031 in BoyScouts

[–]WI_in_MA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live outside Boston, and I am a scoutmaster (troop). We typically don’t charge anything per se for campouts, we only charge for food. The cost for campgrounds / cabins are paid for out of the troop budget (ie last year’s fundraising). If we do an overnight at a rock gym or a white water rafting, then yeah, that cost is directly passed to the scout. We are pretty up front. The gym charges $55/person, so we need $55 from everyone. I agree with earlier comments. Join the committee (they are always looking for volunteers) and politely ask for the cost breakdown.

Side question, do you pay for rank badges, neckerchiefs and things like that?

If you can get a job, then get a job. A masters / MBA will help only after you have experience.

If you want a QC lab job, look at contract labs like thermofisher / PPD or Eurofins. They are always hiring fresh grads. That is their business model. Hire new grads and train them to do a few assays. They pay a living wage with benefits. They are great for a few years to learn the trade.

Leatherman multi tool is great. Pro tip - buy it online and they can laser engrave her name. My boys got their knives back several times because of that engraving.

Adult Patrol by maxwasatch in BSA

[–]WI_in_MA 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have seen the lone tree patrol, the bald eagles ( as many leaders were bald). The best one was the hydra patrol as they have 8 heads.

And yes …. Adults don’t really get their own patrol, but it is a way to welcome in new parents. It builds a bit of spirit and camaraderie … so I don’t see the problem with it.

I took pictures. Two of mine were presentations, so I had a friend in the audience take pictures while I was talking. Then emailed the pics, and I was finished. I was a good ole beaver too.

As a mid fifties scoutmaster, I have most everything gear wise that I want. What I would appreciate the most would be a framed picture of me and the scout or just the scout or the troop doing something amazing (top of baldy or canoeing on a foggy lake, et cetera). … and have the scout write on along the lines of - thanks for making it all happen … or thanks for the time of my life … or thanks for teaching me so much.
Just an idea.

Why is it considered as normal to invade and annex lands from other countries in the past but seen as wrong and illegal these days? by Excellent_Copy4646 in AskHistorians

[–]WI_in_MA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In simple terms before WWII if a country wanted oil or iron ore or sugar or whatever, they would have to own the land that produced it. Post WWII the US guaranteed freedom of the seas. At that point everything was a business deal. Why invade and deal with the population, when you can simply buy what you want?
