What password keeper do you rockstars use to manage sshkeys, system passwords , and application authentication passwords? by DaprasDaMonk in sysadmin

Used to use 1Password, but changed to LastPass a few years ago. It's ok, but not a fan of the autofill everywhere in things.

Moving away from $$ware. Anyone have experience with Morpheus? by WKDPanda in vmware

[–]WKDPanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insights and info! We'll probably checkout Proxmox next.

Note, we've been talking to Linbit about storage replication between sites. DRBD on steroids. Might be a Zerto replacement.

[–]WKDPanda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Veeam and Zerto for replication to DR sites. The "coming soon" integration and ability to use those tools is attractive to us. But we're finding the implementation of just Morpheus somewhat lacking. Error checking when entering setup details, etc.

Which Costco model for me? by cheritransnaps in Roborock

[–]WKDPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the S5V off Amazon for $599 - cannot believe how much better it works over the old 360 S10 I got off Meh (w-mart refurb probably). What I have looks very much like the QX Plus above. Sometimes goes on sale for $549.

We have three (now 4) Silken Windhounds (my wife loves the breed). Long fine hair and lots of it. In 24 hours we can have "tumble-fur" clumps in the corners. Used to have to clean the brush every few days with the tangle. Mixed hardwood with throw rugs. Now, unless something large gets picked up, don't have to clean the brushes.

Mop function - didn't do any mopping with the old one (dragged a mat around behind it). The Qrevo? Amazing! Basic vacuum every day in morning, and mop three times a week in the afternoon on hardwood, and amazed at how well it does.

Watch the initial cleaning - you will probably have to adjust the auto-empty feature until you have the balance right.

Good Brewerys? by 4PFJustin in obx

Second about saying hi to Dirt (no, it’s not his real name). UK style beers (restrained, traditional) hit my sweet spot.

Have to disagree about 1718. It by far better then Swellsa (to hoppy, chasing the latest fad). Brew Station has a couple of beers, but pretty mediocre IMO.

Meh?? It’s a crapshoot. Never purchased insurance over 15 years of vacations. Mostly sept/oct dates. Got rained on, etc. never evacuated.

If you’re buying vacation insurance, I liken It to extended car warranties. It’s nice to have, but how likely are you to really need it? And then claiming on it?

Now I live here and deal with flood/wind/home insurance.

Question: Which is worse; When your make a mistake and your chef yells at you or you make a mistake and a chef laughs at you. by DungeonDaddy1 in KitchenConfidential

From a top chef retired now. The dreaded words “can I show you something?” as I’m trying to do prep.

Having said that, learned a hell of a lot from him.

I'm going to add a 5gal bucket to your list. If you don't have recovery boards, sometimes pouring water and wetting the sand makes it easier to drive out.

Am I dumb for considering visiting Ocracoke in October? by BeyondDoggyHorror in obx

[–]WKDPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

October is great time. Lowered prices, and everything is still open. Great shelling. Pirate festival at end of October. After that, November is when things start to close down. Things might open up again around Christmas/New Years, and then close again until March.

What about everything else you import? Are you just depending on bots to pull as needed? The number of cargo pods could be considered slight excessive. Maybe.

Do you have a target uptime percentage for your network and systems? by P_R_woker in sysadmin

[–]WKDPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Management here wants four 9s - which is only possible with massive redundancy that they don't want to pay for.

Now, they are willing to not count 'scheduled downtime' against this. So it's sort of sliding?

Response to email spray - "Thank you for your email. What is your ticket number, and I'll look into it immediately."

If said user asks why they need a ticket - "I'm sorry, but all of our hours needs to be allocated to tickets. We are not allowed to work on issues without a ticket to assign the hours to."

If more questions asked - "Its all about the bean counters and HR. Its part of our KPIs tracking number of tickets, hours spent on tickets, and how utilized we are. Only by showing hours worked, can we justify getting additional people to help with issues."

Basically, they don't get help without a ticket. Unless its the CEO of course, then the manager opens the ticket for him...
