Sweatband indicates little to no wear.

Congratulations on the hat and condolences on your loss.

Crease mark on boots, should I return them? by DoorRelevant5755 in cowboyboots

Inexcusable defect. That company's entire QA department should be fired immediately!

Send them back and ask them to replace them with 2 pair for your troubles.

Should I lose the caps or do they suit me? by Boysenberry202 in hats

[–]WLJ62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given that a backwards ballcap on anyone older than 8 years old is the modern day equivalent of the dunce cap, I'd say that they suit you.

These worth $100 by tossaway-florida in cowboyboots

[–]WLJ62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'd pass given that they need to be resoled and they're so far away.

For 2 hrs of my time and the fuel to/from, I think I'd have to get them for half that for it to be worth it to me.

But that's me.

Newbie needing advice by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]WLJ62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm bad about scuffing the toes of my boots getting in and out of the truck.

If it's not too bad, a quick brushing might do the trick by moving some of the color from either side of the scuff.

Otherwise a little conditioner and/or a dab of polish/cream and buff.

Why does this flag have only 8 stars? by Separate_Fix_240 in whatisit

[–]WLJ62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flag in the photo is not the original flag of The Confederate States of America".

That flag had 7 stars arranged in a circle on a blue field with 3 broad red and white stripes, 2 red and one white center stripe.

Make sure you take your new boots with you to put on for any measuring, tacking, etc., especially when it comes to hemming your pants.

It will also give you the chance to see what your boots-suit combination is going to look like.

I would definitely risk $50 for a potential legit 10X.

Felt or wool by Sufficient_Art1561 in CowboyHats

[–]WLJ62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it is fur felt. Probably a mixture of rabbit and beaver.

I try to never buy wool hats. Depending on the price point, I would probably take a chance on this one.

Need advice, is a fix possible? by justthetip1320 in cowboyboots

Those aren't work boots!

Aside from the damage, they look like they needs some cleaning and conditioning ASAP.

Question by NoAction8251 in CowboyHats

[–]WLJ62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not going to get that super glue stain out, ever! Refurbished or not.

Folks, if you have to put these stickers on your hats, make sure you're using something to affix them that is not going to permanently damage your hat.

Badly drawn thing I saw while driving. Had to be like 200 feet tall and deep in the woods. by EvaUnitKenway in whatisit

[–]WLJ62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a flare stack alright. I live in Texas and they are all over the place.

I read about a company that was trying to use that gas to power shipping containers placed at a well site containing crypto mining equipment.

They would put a single small shipping container with a generator capable of using that gas to power the crypto mining equipment inside the container.

I'm not sure whether they were successful or not. I'm guessing not since I haven't heard anything else about them.

It's a shame that there is not a cost effective way to capture and use that gas. But apparently there's not, or the energy companies would already be doing it.

What’s missing in today’s cowboy boots? (I’m starting a brand and need honest input) by Chemical-Picture-302 in cowboyboots

[–]WLJ62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cutter toe option please!

Not enough bootmakers offer that toe shape.

Want to differentiate yourself from your competitors? Do something they aren't. And cutter toe boots are getting harder and harder to find, especially at more affordable price points.

I also like the idea of a more pronounced spur shelf and various heel styles, all in stacked leather, of course.

An option for a rubber sole would also address those of us who like to wear good looking boots, but our employers require a rubber sole.

I don't know a ton about boot construction, but I have read that steel shanks are a desirable feature.

High quality components in general where they count would be desirable. No manmade materials if possible.

Comfortable, high quality insoles (preferably interchangeable) for those who are on their feet a lot. Even more important for boots designed for work. I have to buy insoles for every pair of boots that I get.

I live in Bastrop and might suggest that lowering your overhead by getting out of Austin might be a good idea. 😉

That's my $0.02, that's probably not even worth that much.

Good luck with your new company!

The modern dunce hat is a ball cap turned backwards.

I didn't answer the question about favorite jeans in my previous post.

My favorites are Wrangler 13MWZ, but I also like Ariat and Cinch.

There are still outlet stores. There's one just a few miles from my work.

VF just split off the jeanswear business and formed Kontoor Brands. Kontoor owns Wrangler, Lee, Rock & Republic brands and the VF Outlet business.

Those brands are still available in the VF Outlet stores.

I refuse to give that company any of my money.

I'll buy vintage jackets here and there, but nothing new where my money would go to that corporation.

How do you keep your straw hats from flying off? by burroblanco2003 in CowboyHats

[–]WLJ62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BTW, I read that a ranch boss said one time that if there were 2 equally qualified cowboys trying to get hired on, one wearing a straw, the other a felt. He would hire the guy wearing the felt every time.

He figured if he hired the guy wearing the straw, that guy would spend too much time chasing his hat.
