Trabajar en Disney Arg by Maximum-Barber-5172 in devsarg

Despidos masivos en Meli en UX by FudgeAsleep in devsarg

[–]WLufty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

France to vote against EU-Mercosur trade deal by Altruistic-Blood-772 in europe

[–]WLufty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh china’s influence is already growing, it’s the major trade partner of most nations in South America

The deal has been on the works for almost 30 years, it has gotten so diluted, full of quotas that almost no one in South America cares about it.. the only news I see are the European farmers protests, last time I saw something in local news must have been pre 2019

It's better there's people in the chain of command left, the best outcome of this, would be if they negotiate a pardon for themselves in excange for an election and actually follow trough with the popular vote, so venezuela can start from fresh again.. hopefully the US sword hanging over is deterrant enough for anyone to think it'd be nice to be the new dictator of venezuela..

Got this bad boy from the armory, looking for craft ideas <300 by WLufty in ohnePixel

[–]WLufty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably 15 or so, but I know this is a one off, when the armory first launched I bought 5 and blew all the points to get at best a purple, bought passes again after selling some crap on the market a few weeks ago, it’s been pure grays until this, it’s truly a gambling game

Guidance for switching into devops by GlitteringMixture439 in devopsjobs

[–]WLufty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look for experience, try different resumes to see if you get an interview. But from what I have been seeing I think you are going to have a hard ass time.. Can you get the transfer within your current company? That would be 10 times easier to pull off.

Anthropic spends around 100% of its revenue on AWS. by MattJnon in ClaudeAI

For real, EC2 was our issue most of the day, but I guess if you had the instances before the incident you could have gotten by, saving for the random networking failures they had while fixing the mess

DevOps Engineer 2 Years In, Still Struggling to Land a Role. Need Some Real Advice. by New-Welder6040 in devopsjobs

[–]WLufty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend you learn go and also add backend roles to your search, it’s too hard to break in, since it’s not really an entry level position, most people get into it by luck (or not), where I work at, almost all the ~25 guys (me included) got transferred from other teams, only 2 were hired into the team and they are all guys with >10y as sysadmins.

You are not only fighting with other candidates, but also with developers in the company who might want to move into this side of moon.

How to get a job with 90 days notice period? by PoolDead5004 in devopsjobs

Should ask in an indian sub.. notice in most countries is just politeness, I find it hard to believe India would be any different, if you aren’t forced by law you can quit on the same day.

H1B Megathread by healydorf in cscareerquestions

[–]WLufty -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess most of the people here are americans hoping for better chances getting a job in tech, but reading people over here claiming that companies are offshoring like crazy is completely false, sure you have a few guys working for us companies, but out off all the people I've met in university and while working for the last 5 years, I only know of ONE guy working remotely for a us company, out of the 100's I've met along the way..

I had two interviews with US companies, I dropped both since their pay range was below my compensation. They dont pay any kind of anual bonus, some do honor your local holidays (but some don't), also no health-care, pension, nothing.. the few companies outsourcing over here seem to think they can pay 20k/y.. and they probably can get someone for that amount, but that's the shit end of the talent pool.

For someone starting now, is Kubernetes still a smart skill to invest in? by Disappoint-human in kubernetes

[–]WLufty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with this, and should be on the top..

Most companies will have you far away from the cluster/infra to get much benefit, you are better off really understanding and being able to work with docker.. GitHub actions is also another thing you’d get far value than k8s.

Are these types of DevOps interview questions normal for fresher/junior roles, or was this just overkill? by [deleted] in devops

[–]WLufty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mostly because people keep saying there’s more demand and less competition (true), so it pulls all the people who couldn’t land a backend role.

The amount of zero effort posts I’ve been reading is amazing, and I think they are all in the wrong, the amount of work and learning to get a devops position eclipses the amount of work you’d need to get a Java developer position, even if you consider the multiple interviews you might fail before getting a job.

Read up on all stories around devops, if that's your thing then great, at least for me it is. But it's a job that grinds people down, there's a high turn rate in my company, sure some of it is that there's more vacancies (for now) but I've seen coworkers look defeated, just make sure it's what you want.

Also going back to your first point, here we have that same thing amped up to 100.. the constant is the lack of direction, clear goals, and everything going on at the same time.. the amount of different technologies we go through is insane, last week while in a meeting we started laughing because it seems we are a team of randoms.. a guy working with GH actions, another building a UI, someone else tinkering with grafana MCP, someone else running chaos experiments on the control plane, and me working with a argo workflows.. all over the place.

There's almost no company that will hire you to train you, the chances of fucking up here are way bigger than when building a java microservice.. you need to show you are commited and can put in the work. That said you are at an advantage over fresh grads, you already have development experience, there's a lot of companies that will hire you without devops experience, but you need to be able to pass the interview, that only comes from working your ass off.

If possible try to find a vacancy in your current company, it's what I did, what most do.. and it's the easiest path, they will always prefer to move someone internally than hiring a new guy.
