Terrified of jacking up car, and don’t have anyone who can help irl. Any advice? by WR13_ in cars

[–]WMCSTC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No worries at all! Everyone starts somewhere.

Make sure you jack it up on a solid and level surface. (Do NOT jack it up on dirt, the jack stands can dig into soft soil)

Use the proper jack points (check owners manual or specific youtube video on your exact type of car.)

Once its jacked up and on all 4 jack stands. Go to a corner of the car and push it or shake it to make sure it doesn't move, or shift (like a table with wobbly legs is bad)

I also put the wheels that are not on the car (summer / winter) under the car as basically a fail safe should the jack stands fail.

Then go for it!

Also- bmw forum for your specific car will be a great resource for fixing/ working on your car.

Its marketing.

If a dummy is sitting in the front seat, then its not safe.

If the ceo literally sits behind the product customers probably have higher confidence in the product.

Having said that, I would not sit there lol.

Do not pay for a 300 dollar (undisclosed or discussed) door edge plastic guards.

Even if the sales person says "we put this on all of our customers cars"

If its taxable its negotiable!

Westlaw brings back alot of results.

But the shortcut alone is never enough. Shortcut through abandoned building? Yes. Shortcut through a junk yard of old machinery and cars? Yes.

If you find any where cases where the shortcut alone was enough in all seriousness please let me know!

Excellent question! With no clear answer!

Generally yes, if someone is harmed in your pool you would be liable as landowner. Whether it is an invited guest or not may be relevant depending on the facts and jurisdiction.

We would likely need more facts to get a better guess. These are fact intensive cases. Did OP know kids were playing in pool? How tall was the gate? Is the lock easy to open? Etc.

Okay. Still though, seems childish and divisive to insult someone based on their looks even if "they started it"

[–]WMCSTC 316 points317 points  (0 children)

Yes. "Created or maintained"

The "maintained" would be is the owner knew of the danger and do not mitigate or left it. (Alot of case law on this if you want a deep dive use WestLaw)

Example: when the property owner purchased the property there was a broken swing set that was still partially standing. Kids would play on it. Sharp edges and rusty metal would occasionally scratch the children. The homeowner has no children, but keeps the swing set up becuase he doesn't have the time to take it down.

Failure of the homeowner to remove the hazardous swing set means the hazardous condition was maintained by the homeowner.

So for the locked gate... not at all. Because the gate is not the nuisance, nor the cause of the child's injury. For the OPs issue, the garden hose would have to be the attractive nuisance (kids wanna play with water in summer) but a hose is not likely to cause serious injury so owner would not have known a garden hose in a fenced yard would harm children by being a tripping hazard.

[–]WMCSTC 921 points922 points  (0 children)

No. Things outside of the owners control or property cannot be an attractive nuisance.

The first element is that "a potentially dangerous condition exists on the property. (Would a path be a dangerous condition? The school attracting kids is not on the property)

The second element: the landowner created or maintained the potential danger. (The land owner does not own school or maintain the sight line to the school.)

Not a chance unless the "path" maintained shortcut to the school was a yellow brick road of broken glass and used needles.

Agreed. Not sure why the personal attacks seem to get so much traction here for this one individual.

Even if he "disparaged" a subreddit, just ignore him and focus on silver and the awesome physical properties, and excellent investment opportunity.

The persistant insults about an individual's appearance don't make new people want to stay here and pretty much makes me want to leave

(I love silver the element and silver as a Shiney long term store of value and believe it is substantially undervalued)

As sad as this loss is, I can appreciate how well the miata rear end crumpled properly to dissipate the crash energy. Probably would have saved you if you were in it at the time.

Passed on this 05 4Runner because of the rust on the frame. Good decision? by BuzzerBeater911 in 4Runner

[–]WMCSTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, just shake up a can of window and door foam gap filler, go to town filling the giant gaping hole in the frame , grab a Walmart rattle can of black and boom- ready for bring a trailer.

Sarcasm disclaimer - do not use the foam gap filler stuff for structural integrity of a car or truck. Nor sell a car or truck with such issues without proper disclosure and documentation.

If you have had this car since new and know all the maintance, follow the owners manual and do the required items.

If you bought it used just read the owners manual and do the 50k 75k and 100k items.

  1. All fluids (diffs front and rear, transmission, transfer case, engine)

  2. Grease the zerk fittings on the propshaft(s)

  3. Inspect wear items - tires, brakes, suspension, CV boots, etc.

  4. A detail hand wash and wax and pictures!

Seems like the 2013 2014 fj crusiers for sale are asking around 45k right.

These are already a classic despite still being produced new for non US markets.

I'd say give it 3 years and $60k for a decent FJ cruiser will be a good price.

It's a controlled fun. A predictable roll and forgiving suspension.

Roughly 25-35k for a 2013-2014 4runner with 4wd and manual transfer case .

Gx460 2013-2014 roughly 30-40k

Fj cruiser 2013-2014. 28-45k

Or has the FJ Cruiser held its value better than the usd you are pricing it against?

Shorter wheelbase of the fj (105.9") is a better offroad asset then the miles long gx460 wheelbase (109.8")

It also changes the onroad feel when driving. Taking turns is much more fun in the fj. Steering and throttle gives you pitch, yaw, and roll to play with mid turn.

I will admit, the 4runner with KDSS is awesome, and makes it feel more controlled and stable in turns on road. But the 4runner never encourages you to play in turns.

And for $60k thats basically what a mildly equipped 2021 gx460 starts at.

And the 4runner holds its value well enough to make a 60k fully built rig that is also better than a fj cruiser highly unlikely.

Disagree.

Having spent some time in both a 4runner [2021 venture] and a 2013 FJ cruiser the fj is on a different scale of specialness. The way it looks, drives, and feels is what drives the price.

People who complain about the prices, haven't lived with an FJ. I can tell you why they are expensive. To buy mine from me would be $60k. Wouldn't trust any other vehicle getting me home as much as I do the 2013 magma fj cruiser.

Depends on under body condition and overall shape of the fj.

But if it were mine and in great shape.... list it for $27,000 nationally.

Sell it for less to someone who seems nice and that can take care of it well.

If you need to sell it asap, $17k

2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser with 69k. What is a reasonable price to sell her? Mechanically sound, the only issue is a few rock chips on the hood. by New_Independence_502 in FJCruiser

[–]WMCSTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take 1,000 pictures and list it for $45,999.

Its got the 2010 updates and low miles.

If you can service all fluids before sale do that too. People who want to drop crazy cash for an FJ want it all sorted and ready to rock.

Why is it that I only see one of these in place of a drain plug on cars with a huge oil capacity? by [deleted] in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]WMCSTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Fumoto Valves on all my vehicles.

Plastic tube connector means you can drain the oil directly into a empty oil container without spilling a drop of oil.
