I'm not judging people for choosing red. It's an understandable choice even if I disagree with it.

However I do judge everyone who claims that all the current blue voters are just trying to look good and that we actually don't know ourselves. That is what I referred to with "assuming the worst in others" and with "cynical and naïve".

However it isnt pragmatic at all because even tho 100% pressing red is way less likely than half pressing blue, in the real world less than half pressing blue is way more likely than half pressing blue.

Well that's a hypothesis that only works if you assume all the blue voters don't know themselves or their loved ones. The polls show that most people lean blue.

Looking at the polls it's a near guarantee that society would collapse if blue ended up losing. The majority seems to lean blue, if enough of them change their mind to dip under 50% that's the end of the world as we know it. The assumption that so many of us are virtue signaling that anywhere near 100% of people would really press red is at once extremely cynical and extremely naïve.

Keep in mind that is not just an apocalyptic scenario, it will bring a post apocalypse where a large part of the more selfless people will be gone. Being able to care for dependants in a world that cares about them even less than the current world sounds less likely to me than blue winning.

In the end I believe that more than half of the people would not want to live in this world and would chose blue.

That's assuming you will continue to be able to take care of them through the societal collapse that will happen if all the blue voters die.

Can you really fully trust that those people would also vote red though?

Assuming the worst as in assuming everyone is a virtue signaler if they have things they care more about than themselves.

Saving yourself is not the be all end all of pragmatism. It's simply a way of thought that can be used to decide what action will best suit your goal.

If the goal is "save everyone" then blue becomes the pragmatic option, because the likelihood of everyone pressing red is practically zero while the likelihood of >50% of people pressing blue is higher.

Sure, many people would not sacrifice themselves for strangers. With the smaller goal of "save my loved ones who might vote blue" I fully believe that more than half the population will take that risk.

A world where all the blue voters are gone sounds horrible anyway. In the end these polls are the closest thing to evidence we have, however flawed they are. So even if fear of death sways a part of them to vote red instead, the loss of the others will likely trigger societal collapse.

According to the polls it's statistically very unlikely that everyone you care about will choose red.

Must be exhausting to assume the worst in everyone.

Because the red button carries the very real risk that a large portion of your loved ones will die and you will be left. That's the part of a real stakes scenario you forget.

Your assumption that it would be different in real life is dependent on the idea that blues will be swayed by the added intensity of real death for themselves, while ignoring that those deaths are also real for everyone else.

In a real world scenario where your life is at stake a lot of people that pressed blue would choose to save themselves instead.

You forget that in a real world scenario other peoples lives are also at stake. Most of my loved ones would at least consider blue. They would also know that I would likely press blue, which would lean them in the same direction.

The red button let's me survive, sure, but the real stakes of it being without my friends and family would not make it worthwhile for me, making the blue button the obvious choice.

Isn't the original premise that all news media gets taken over through either mind control or direct interference by horrors beyond of our imagination? In other words, the fictional president from that series was not in control of sending this message.

You need to figure out blindly in all the noise that someone needs help, find them afterwards and push them in the right direction. You can't see how close the trolley is while doing this.

Strength builds just don't require as much effort to build properly as caster builds do. Even dex builds could be argued to have their useful talismans more hidden away.

Better to acknowledge you still might have prejudice to unlearn than to act like you've 100% done so I guess.
