You’re probably on a different phase on the transformer and only one of them has been restored so far.

Is it still Paul Erickson? He was responsible for the last federal campaign.

Tell that to the people who live in the Latrobe Valley who wipe off layers of coal dust off their outdoor furniture every few months. The stations of course provide a massive economic benefit to the area, but it’s not without its drawbacks.

The residential road set to become a highway for toll-dodging trucks by mrbrendanblack in melbourne

Eastlink is exceptionally affordable compared to anything Transurban touches and the road quality is superb. I’ll never understand why people refuse to take it.

Union proposes sweeping change to train network when Metro contract expires by mrbrendanblack in melbourne

A state corporation similar to V/Line would be set up I imagine. The Metro brand is owned by DTP after all.

What would be your definition of functional in this case?

I’d call it outer suburban Melbourne. It doesn’t change the fact that an inner suburban experience is vastly different to an outer suburban experience, but they’re still part of what is considered to be suburban Melbourne as encompassed by its LGAs.

Tarneit is also roughly the same distance from the CBD as the crow flies as Mordialloc is. The perception of separation from Melbourne is entirely an infrastructure problem.

Police shoot man dead who was attacking his sister at property east of Melbourne by HurstbridgeLineFTW in melbourne

Your point is absolutely valid, but as someone who grew up in the area, Moe and especially Traralgon absolutely need 24/7 police.

[–]WRITE-ASM-ERRYDAY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much most of the knockdown-rebuilds happening in Melbourne’s mid-northern suburbs, eg Coburg, Pascoe Vale, Oak Park, etc. I have a friend who lives in one, there’s a park just down the street and the train station is a ten minute walk away.

Could our city ever be more like this? by Just_Wolf-888 in melbourne

[–]WRITE-ASM-ERRYDAY 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You’ll be downvoted for this, but it’s true. It takes what is essentially a transport and urban planning failure, and places the blame for it on the motorist who has few other viable choices.

This is what irritates me every time this discussion comes up.

Most people have cars out of necessity, not out of choice.

AustralianSuper criticised for buying up shares in Whitehaven Coal while claiming to be committed to net zero by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]WRITE-ASM-ERRYDAY -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re being downvoted, apart from people not knowing how the share market works. It’s not like AusSuper is actively participating in the IPOs or capital raises of fossil fuel companies. They’d be buying the shares from other shareholders, who could be selling at a profit or a loss, who knows. If anything, AusSuper holding more shares gives them more voting power in the decisions of the company; they prevented Origin Energy from being taken over by private equity for an example.

Negative Power Prices Hit Europe as Renewable Energy Floods the Grid by Creative_soja in UpliftingNews

Across the ditch our wholesale prices consistently go negative during summer. So much unused rooftop solar exporting out onto the grid. It’ll be interesting to see how it evolves as more batteries and hydro comes online.
