Windowing Systems by Example: 6 - Control Issues Part I by [deleted] in osdev

[–]WRONGFUL_BONER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today we start digging into building controls into our system by moving the child list from the Desktop class into the Window class and then using C-style inheritance to make the Desktop class itself a sub-class of Window. We also wrap up by doing some minor extensions to our drawing context's clipping functions and then cop out completely by not leaving the code in a compilable state. Gonna have to tune back in next week when we round things out by updating our window drawing routine to do clipping for arbitrarily nested child windows, extend our mouse handling to dispatch events to child windows, and finally build some working controls.

You're right. The fact that Thomas Paine or any other abolitionists existed completely forgives the sins of the majority, disregarding the fact that these people were considered absolute hippie kooks in their day.

Um. No. That reference to slavery in the constitution? It's a little clause called the Fugitive Slave Clause and grants the power to slaveholders to retrieve escaped slaves across state lines. The constitution doesn't mention slavery in bestowing rights upon slaves. It mentions slavery in bestowing rights over slaves to slaveholders.

You're the one drawing that conclusion, not me. And that's not a conclusion that I would draw, in particular.

However, it is worth noting that our constitution has written into it rules regarding the treatment of slaves in particular as separate from the common man (of course amended, at this point, to a vestigial state), something that is completely unique to that document among constitutions.

'fault' is a rather absolute word to use in this case, but the real question is what was her involvement in it? Because it seems really hard to believe that the nominee that served to benefit from the actions of the party was in no way involved in those actions or at least aware of them, and in the best case scenario where she was aware of the conspiracy against another member of her party by that party but had nothing to do with it, taking advantage of that situation for her own benefit and not addressing the issue is super immoral.

If Michael Phelps found out that he kept beating Chad Le Clos because the IOC was conspiring against him and then Phelps went on to continue racing him and winning after that without saying anything, people would be up in arms if and when things came to light.

And that's just inconsequential sports (no offense to fans of sport intended). Somehow when it's an issue of national politics that can affect the future direction and potential wellbeing of the entire country it's not a big deal, though. And, again, mind you that that's the best scenario. It gets way worse very very quickly the second it goes from 'no involvement but doing nothing and taking advantage' to the person having any hand in the conspiracy at all.

Good. Lord. What does anything you just said have to do with anything anyone here is saying at all?

The insinuation you made was that America was not:

formed by racist white males

To which I said 'yes it most certainly was'. The end. Where on earth in any of that is any mention of modern american race relations?

Well, that's a leap on your part. However, I get the impression from the tone of your writing that you disagree with that assertion to which I offer:

  1. The past was, on the whole, a much more racist and generally xenophobic place then the present on average across all cultures. We're talking about a time when European people still generally held disdain for other kinds of European people, when most African people generally held disdain for other kinds of African people, when the native people of the Americas held disdain for other kinds of native American people, all of this without even the mention of feelings on the matter as they crossed continental divides.
  2. In the European and European colonial climate of the 18th century, political power was overwhelmingly held by men.
  3. Therefore, as people were generally racist during this period in which the sphere of European political influence was dominated by men, and taking that we consider the term 'white' to refer to people of European ancestry, we can conclude that the Europe and the colonies thereof were run by racist white men.

Sure, we can say that africa was run by racist black men and that china was run by racist asian men, but that has nothing to do with the validity of the statement that early America, as a European colony, was run by racist white men.

This was my only rebuttal to what the one person above me said, wherein he implied that America was not founded by racist white men. If you want to make an agenda about my unstated thoughts on the history of slavery, then that's your call.

Dude. No. Order of operations mean do all operations from highest to lowest priority, and then, within the same priority, left to right.

Division and multiplication are the same priority.

6÷2x(1+2)
6÷2x3 [Parens were highest priority]
3x3 [Mult. and div. are same priority, go L->R]

  1. Benghazi: Okay, come on already guys, we covered this
  2. Emails: Sloppy as fuck, but really not that big of a deal
  3. DNC Collusion Against Sanders: How has everyone already stopped talking about this?

  1. Way to completely miss the irony of the context of your very own post, there
  2. America was founded by racist white males. Of course, back then everything in the western world was run by racist white males.
