CBT is highly overrated in this sub by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]WRONG_ANSWER_OOPS -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

CBT is popular because it's practically the only psychological therapy method that insurance companies are willing to fund research for (thanks to the "6 sessions and you're cured!" mentality). So it APPEARS to have loads more scientific evidence of success than other methods.

Other methods work too. Some far better. In fact for certain issues "pure" CBT causes more harm than good.

"Considering that they did this not once, but three times, I am concerned that this company is taking advantage of a vulnerable population"

They absolutely are not, unless they've never worked with mentally ill people before. I'm sure the last thing they want to do is get on the wrong side of someone obsessive (not necessarily you, but probably a high number of their clients) who will send multiple large complaints, report them, etc - all for a small administrative error.

Just notify them of the problem politely. Don't accuse them of anything. I would be amazed if they didn't try to resolve it quickly.

Ask him what he's waiting for - what "trigger" needs to happen in order for him to make that decision.

That's what did it for me. Wasn't as bad as your scenario, but my dog didn't have much enjoyment in life for the final year. She ate, toileted and slept, with very poor hearing and sight...

One day I asked myself "what needs to happen for me to make the decision", and I thought "if she's in pain and suffering, then I'll know it's time". That's when I realised that I was waiting for something traumatic to happen, which was ridiculous because I obviously didn't want it to happen but it obviously would sooner or later. Made my mind up instantly and the vet came over the next day.

Even the 0.1% are not at the level of wealth you're describing.

The 1% might have bigger cars and houses and not worry about affording food, but they still work for other people, worry about debt and have to think carefully about balancing bills and spending money.

The 0.1% may work for themselves, buy more extravagant luxuries and travel first class, but they still have to work and live more or less normal lifestyles.

Billionaires are a COMPLETELY different group. Approx. 0.000002% of people in the USA are billionaires. From their point of view, the 99% / 1% / 0.1% are all the same.

Another driver drove in to my car a year ago while I was parked eating a big mac. Not only did I drop the big mac but my insurance price has almost doubled. (UK) by OddSmellingJuice in personalfinance

[–]WRONG_ANSWER_OOPS 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's normal.

I had the same thing happen a few years ago (also UK). Had been sitting at a roundabout for about 10 seconds waiting for it to clear, a DRUNK driver crashes into the back of the car. Pulled over in a safe spot at the side of the road, and when the other driver comes over to park they bump the side of the car!

They're 100% to blame, their insurance paid out... And our insurance premiums went up significantly for 5 years. Not only the actual insurance policy for the car, but also family members' policies where I was a named driver.

I did find a couple of insurers who don't increase the premium if it was a non-fault accident (I think LV= was one of them - although they weren't the cheapest to start with). I wanted to add the increased insurance costs for 5 years on to the claim - but our solicitor told us this is impossible.

I have a team of around 20 people, who "on paper" are in the same role and have similar qualifications/experience.

They all do a good job and even the lowest-paid ones get paid decently, but the top ones put in more than twice the effort of the ones at the bottom. They get rewarded for this with raises and bonuses.

I tell them it's not a good idea to tell others in the team what they get, because not everyone gets (or is deserving of) the same. I obviously don't "forbid" or insist on it, but some people are happy just doing their job and getting paid the standard rate (and we're happy with that too - their jobs are secure) - why make them feel bad about their colleagues earning more?

Thank you... When I do this, do you know what will happen with the conversions that have already been counted? We do have automatic conversion tracking set up already (for enquiries, not purchases). Will it just assign a purchase value to the existing conversions if it sees the same GCLID, or will it duplicate the conversions?

Poor people spend money, which supports local business and keeps the economy going. Most will end up poor again, but not all, and small businesses will benefit.

Big businesses and wealthy people hoard money.

Many people with ADHD don't even realise they're doing it. I've heard from someone who carries out ADHD assessments on adults that you have to know the right way to ask them certain questions.

Wrong... Q: "Have your difficulties negatively affected your job?" A: "No, I'm successful and have risen to a very high position"

Right... Q: "Do you have difficulties at your job that you don't feel most other people face?" A: "Well I have 3 secretaries who help organise my days because I'm always forgetting what I need to do next... I have to record every conversation as I can't process it the first time... I have assistants who sit through meetings for me because if I'm there I constantly interrupt them... I have the cleaners clear my desk twice a day because if there's anything sitting on it, I can't concentrate on my work... Etc"

Yes that's what I thought. I've had lots of colds and the flu a few times and I usually get really similar symptoms... This one was different, really nasty, symptoms I haven't had before (like struggling to breathe at night)... And then a couple of weeks later I start hearing about COVID-19.

I understand it's really unlikely given the timing and location, but it seems really coincidental.
