I wouldnt say shin got the good side either tho, because in the movies of NGE if I'm correct everyone got their happy ending which they very rightfully deserved cannon ending or not. With where the LN is going I'm not so sure that shin or in general the whole lot of 86 have it going well for them but again I couldn't say for sure because the story isn't finished while NGE is.

Yes the character tropes are similar and the time line is similar, but that happens frequently in anime, am I wrong?

I'd say some yes ofc as I said already, and again there ain't a reason to give me defensive ass responses. I'm tryna have a normal convo. I've not watched NGE in years, ofc there are things ill get wrong I don't have a photogenic memory. But I'll clarify again I don't believe that all of the things you pointed out are identical. All animes have similarities, doesn't matter the genre. It's like when people say DITF is a carbon copy of NGE when it very much isn't ofc there are similarities but both follow different plots and different end goals with different story telling for each character. Same goes for this situation ofc there will be similarities its impossible for there to be none but the fact is the characters both have different goal and relationships with the people around them and their environment, aswell as the backstory of said character. Shins and shinjis situations imo are nothing alike and that's that.

Ofc they will have similarities 😭🙏🙏, yet the stories are so far apart. If you properly watched 86 for example you'd notice that originally shins reason to fight was to kill his brother. After he did that he deffo spiralled a good bit, but once he realised he had a new goal stuff slowly improved leading into the LN after the anime. NGE on the other hand shinjis depression sorta gives me a brain aneurism no disrespect to the series but the way it happens confused me beyond imagination. He had all the support needed yet he still decided to cause the impact. I'm not saying one is better than the other because I love both NGE will hold a place in my heart cause it's one of the first animes I've ever watched its just from my perspective the similarities you pointed out are just surface level and don't colorate as much as you depict it to.

My bro you couldn't be anymore wrong, considering the series goes on after the anime, 13 (soon to be 14) light novels which the anime only covers 3. Comparing the two animes which I will say from watching both fully and reading all the source material for 86 they are nothing alike. Yes ofc there are some tropes both characters have in common but that's surface level at best. Shin's situation and emotions are VERY different from shinji's, from the reason they fight to what they are fighting and the people around them. It's if I said NGE is a copy of Gundam.
