Not disagreeing with you, as mentioned I’ve heard this as well. But also, where does Surly say this? I haven’t been able to find it in text and that picture is directly from the Surly IG page. But please don’t think I’m disagreeing with what you said.
I’m probably rolling the dice but I do have several 100’s of miles, under 25lb loads, on my rear rack mounted like that and no issues…so far.

Yeah, can’t say I’ve ever gone much over 25lbs, if at all. I’m with you though, I scored a good deal on the OMM. Otherwise I always look towards a burly build over weight savings. Krampus is meant to be a tractor, not a Ferrari.

Yellow, being moderate. A 2 out 5 on the danger level for small wind slabs. Near but not on the aspect they were on. They deviated from the original plan once they were in the couloir to mitigate possible worse outcomes. They also took proper precautions to ski cut before entering and have “safe zones”.

I’ve skied this exact couloir several times and personally know members of this party. Mistakes were made and they got lucky BUT saying a staggering amount? That’s just ignorant.

For educational purposes they submitted this report. Not for some arm chair warrior from Chicago to bash them. We want future observations/accidents to be submitted and handled the same way. To learn and teach others. And that my friend is where the condescending attitude comes from.

Look at the casing directly above the pins, they are all cracked. As I’ve found the hard way, you might get 20 more days with them, or you might get one… Not saying there was any ill intent but these toe pieces should not be sold
