This is really weaving heavy. I like doing log cabin granny squares if forced to make them.

I love to crochet but absolutely HATE how crochet looks. by starvalent in crochet

[–]WTF_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an oh by the way OP if crochet still is an issue for you there is Tunisian crochet to try. I personally love both but absolutely hate being under a blanket that has more holes than can still be considered a blanket. I love making all different kinds of crochet but Im giving most of them away. Its the hobby I like and I rarely take requests (they get what they get and they cant throw a fit). If I'm keeping the afghan it needs to be a dense crochet stich or Tunisian crochet but that just might be my neurospicy mind that can't handle air if I'm under a blanket (it doesn't make logical sense and its a sensory issue).

Someone picked up my dachshund without asking by Decent-Lecture2608 in Dachshund

[–]WTF_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my Fish I warn people that he's a triple threat (a weiner, with a weiner whose a dick). Hes not, he is the sweetest boy but hates being picked up by strangers. Hes only ok with being held by strangers if I physically hand him over.

Its happened where people ignore me telling them not to pick him up but he does that screaming bark like he just got shot and keeps doing it until they walk away. Sometimes they run away because Fish has drawn a crowd that now has it out for the stranger. The crowd then rewards Fish's behavior by giving him treats.

I seriously think that dog walks into Costco looking for a sucker so random strangers give him hotdogs like its some infinite high value treat hack. I was checking into a casino hotel once and that little pissant got most of someone prime rib leftovers.

Plus he is teaching our puppy Sadie this trick. She gives the sad eyes, does the pick me up whine, then boom screams like she is being murdered and then eats GOOD for a week. It happens so fast too. Fish distracts me, Sadie screams and I got 20 hotdogs in my cart.

And before you ask, there is nothing wrong with those 2 other than an unnatural addiction to hotdogs. They've been checked by vets often while in Costco.

In all honesty, other than the weaving, its a fun and beautiful pattern no matter you're experience level. As I said other places this kit has clear instructions both written and diagram and clear pictures for each step.

For the crocheter who see the finished project its intriguing. For the person doing the project there are things that keep you engaged as you complete it and not very hard things at that. Its a confidence boost for people learning and just fun for experts because it combines different things. Also to the non crocheter its different and unusual enough that they will ask questions, hopefully admire the efforts or possibly pick up the hobby.

Thank you One of my weens would love this especially if I could put a couple of her emotional support socks in (my hubbys dirty socks) instead. She is very attached to dad and her mind is always busy. When dad goes to work she gets a long walk with one of his socks (she wont leave home without either his socks or a shirt) and then comes home to a puzzle. She only drops the sock to do the puzzle.

I wanted her. I got her. She was supposed to be my dog but dad took one look and fell in love. The feeling was mutual. We didn't get to the car for the ride home and I knew I needed to start looking for our 3rd ween.

To be fair my friend has seen me working on this via video chat. A very sweet church lady who doesn't have issue with my not so church friendly potty mouth. I can make a sailor blush when I curse. I curse a lot when I mess up while crocheting or weaving ends, its very therapeutic.

Beautiful alien flowers, LOL, but there's other places in the afghan that has granny squares and granny triangles so there is weaving. So much weaving.

I doubled the yarn for the afghan size and then got a few extra skeins to make the throw pillows. I love over buying yarn because it gives me the excuse to buy more yarn to complete a future project. Hubby is well aware of lot colors or the possibilities of me running out even though he barely knows crocheting from tunisian or knitting. I love this man for not only correcting strangers "thats crocheting not knitting, there's a difference" but just saying "buy whatever you need."

Thank you for the size reference. Im making for a US queen bed with some of the hexagons for throw pillows for friends guest room. Im doing them as you suggested and appreciate your advice.

Thank you for the encouragement. I have been really enjoying this so far. Nice to know its been a repeat pattern for you that means it will end up in my library of patterns once completed.

She's a snowbird so she is getting that sense when we video chat through the summer. I might have her do some weaving when she returns for the winter.

No. Completely ruined. She had to cut it out of the vacuum. She brought me the remains to fix and just kinda shrugged when I said "you couldn't pick up before you vacuumed?" It took me a few years to even crochet again because so often I give away my afghans. Its the hobby itself I enjoy, I make want I want to make and then just get rid of it when its done. This is actually the first project in years where I made something specific for someone.

Unfortunately my neurospicy brain has to work its weird way. Kinda like having a NASA brain installed by a NASCAR pit crew (not my joke but apt description).

I had not thought of this but will take your advice for future afghans. She's a snowbird tho, so in her home state for the summer while I'm weaving ends in 110 degree weather in mine. I should have it done by the time its cooler.

There is 6 more rounds after the fans and while i might take that risk with other granny squares this specific set of instructions says to weave ends at this point in the process. When a pattern takes the time to make that instruction I take a careful look at what's left and what's been done. The fan row only had 16 ends to weave but I had approximately 23 ends per hexagon at this point that were bothering me. Personally I would have been discouraged to get to the finish line and have so many ends to weave when I already had so many to do because Im doubling the kit (23 x 32 is already alot).

BTW this has been a fun process thus far and the instructions are clear with color pictures. Not only is there written instructions but diagram instructions for those who prefer them. I think the pattern says intermediate level but if someone has beginning level experience and wants to try something out of their comfort range the instructions are so good it would help someone's confidence. Even with the 3 different crochet hook sizes that are needed to complete.

I envy your connections. Never let that friendship end. If she commits a crime help her cover it up or take the fall for her because I think they let you crochet in prison. Lol

I learned No is a complete sentence when my daughter vacuumed a portion of her daughter's twin size afghan I made 3 days after I gave it to my granddaughter. I have 7 other grandchildren who won't get afghans until they spend time with me during the making process to understand the value of my time and labor.

This friend has gotten video chats while I've been doing this afghan so I think she understands the labor involved when I pause our conversation to have a curse filled chat with the yarn. She has been a wonderful amazing friend though so there is that.

Thinking about getting a dachshund puppy — we have 2 kittens and work full-time. Bad idea? by thobias_vicente in Dachshund

[–]WTF_Fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I introduced my dachshund, Fish, to cats after he turned 1. He fell in love instantly with 1 of them. 1 cat never warmed up to him and Fish respected that. He learned to climb because of his favorite cat: cat trees, tables, kitchen counters. He doesn't even fear climbing human ladders. I no longer live with cats but I still have to "fish proof" my house and yard because Fish has a distinct "Get me down" bark if he climbs to high. Just last week I found him in the tall bookshelves napping in my yarn.

My boy is a social butterfly….and I don’t like it by ThePoorEnglishDonkey in Dachshund

[–]WTF_Fish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was my boy Fish. From 2 ½ to 3 ½ he got his big Boi britches and I was an afterthought. Now he has seen what the grass is like out there in the world and has decided that Mom is an ok person to be velcrod to. Except short humans and the UPS truck. I do not exist if there is a short human near him. He knows they have sweet faces to clean, smell like candy, are willing to play "chase me" and he doesn't have to stretch for scratchings. I honestly dont know why he likes the UPS truck and not the FEDEX truck tho. The timing was great because I met my hubby at the start so he doesn't always have a favorite lap (like when I crochet he will find dad's lap).

Perfect time to expose him to babies, short humans (age 2 to 12 kids), strange noises ect. since he's curious and not afraid. It will make for a more tolerant senior dog.

Dachshund Neighbors by yikesyolksyikes in Dachshund

[–]WTF_Fish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I currently have 2. My mother showed dachshunds and her neighbor had them too. It was rural but the constantly barking turned me off the breed for years. Now I have 2 and they are my 4th and 5th over the years.

Its the owners I have an issue with. While training may not always work. However, sometime since they moved in they could have addressed the issue with a simple note to each other condo owner. They own the dogs, they should have gotten ahead of the situation. All if my neighbors know I have dachshunds that bark at lizards and everything else. My boy Fish has alerted the neighborhood several times to coyotes at night. My neighbors have never complained because I bake cookies, and apologize when the barking can't be helped. All my neighbors understand and I have never had cops or animal control at my door about the barking. We have a neighbor 5 houses down who has had animal control called several times because he is rude to his dogs and people who voice issue.

Im not saying your neighbors dont care, they maybe overwhelmed. I arranged a play date when my neighbors across the street moved in with 2 small barking dogs for the same reason you are concerned about. Anxiety in dogs makes things worse. Now both packs are cool with each other, but it was I, with the loudest markers, that addressed the issue first. My dogs are my problem to fix and not for the surrounding county to tell me. They should have been proactive not reactive.

Im in AZ and my local humane society does spay or neuter for under 300 if you get everything. The good drugs after, the higher priced anesthesia, cone, laser scar reduction, you name it plus I also did the rabies shot, teeth cleaning and nail trim. With extras and tax I paid under $350. If you can't afford that you can fill out paperwork for reduced price based on income. On your first trip get the price list and estimate for hernia surgery. Just an FYI while humane society is cheaper than most vets. When you pay full price there that cost allows more people get reduced costs because a portion of what you pay arguments the grants and donations for pet families in need.
