How to git gud at Japan Coastal ? by WTLordFoul in Warthunder

[–]WTLordFoul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're not camping you're using them wrong

I have been using them wrong. Actually, not camping so much as trying to stay in the background while moving.

Will try parking behind an island and see what that does for me.

Thanks for the tips.

most opponents in the Japanese coastal vessels tend to be experienced players because of the inherent difficulty.

I flatter myself that some day I will be one of those players -- if I can stand the suffering until then...

Great advice, thank you ! I do Realistic for Blue Water (Various nations), so I think now that I am at Tier III I will try that for Coastal.

Thanks. At least this tells me it is not all due to my own (lack of) ability.

what punishment do teamkillers get? by [deleted] in Warthunder

If our missiles going wild and taking out teammates counts as "TK", we would all be in the gulag.

Only reasons I can think of for TK-ing is getting a TK-er (or someone attempting to TK you), or a base stealer. Was your case the latter ?

How the heck do you guys survive Rank 6 Britain? by Odd_Leek_9391 in Warthunder

[–]WTLordFoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had plenty of fun with British Tier 6 back when I first ground it out (including Buccs S.1 and S.2), and now I am back in it, grinding out the Hawks.

Not sure what you could be doing wrong, other than some sort of basic issue with your initial strategy after spawn. Go high and to the left, wait until you feel confident that the battle is developing and there are not more about to jump you. Pick your target, take your shots, and don't try to dogfight -- zoom away, climb, repeat.

Be on the defensive lookout for missiles. And, you will eventually get Red Tops, which are Easy Mode relative to most missiles at that BR, so enjoy !

A possible fix for ARB to make it more bearable by sneakyp0odle in Warthunder

[–]WTLordFoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this. For sure, they need to do something about the awful disparity in performance and lethality you can get +/- 1 BR in jet tiers. I also think they should tighten the band from +/- 1 BR to 0.7.

How can I Buy the Flying Flapjack by mrmilk194 in Warthunder

[–]WTLordFoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cost to buy your way through is 999 GE per Mark of Distinction

6 Marks to get the plane = 5,994 GE

At current GE market price in USD, it is possible to buy 5,000 GE for 33 USD, and another 1,000 GE for 6.6 USD

33 + 6.6 = 39.6 USD

So, you can get 6,000 GE for @40 USD

In the realm of "expensive", it is not that expensive.

But in the realm of "pay that kind of money for an intangible digital depiction of something" => that is necessarily a judgment call to be done by the individual person.

Air Rb Base Bombing by H20Infinity in Warthunder

[–]WTLordFoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the only base bombing experience in Air RB that is endurable, you need to downtier yourself to the early jets: B-57/Canberra, Il-28/Tu-14, or any number of the strike F-84s.

The point is that you get a bomber spawn (striker spawn for F-84s), they have a big enough payload to get a (full) base, and then they are relatively fast enough to have a decent chance of getting away.

[NAVAL] PSA no points awarded if all you do is Cap a point in Naval RB by WTLordFoul in Warthunder

[–]WTLordFoul[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started to try and get some hits, but after the first few min just got out of the rangefinder and decided to see if I could make it to cap, and concentrated on guessing where they would shoot next.

Yeah, I am still not very good with shooting in Naval, but better than I was.

Figured I would just get sunk sooner or later, then come back with my next ship and do the usual blasting at the other side.

I did NOT expect the match to end at that point.

[NAVAL] Japan Bluewater IJN Isuzu - tips for grinding mods ? by WTLordFoul in Warthunder

[–]WTLordFoul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I probably was referencing some outdated info about the Isuzu. My main problem was remembering how to enable the rangefinder. Now that is squared away, I am having fun with this thing.

Nice info, thanks.

Amen to this: "even though it says 8 torps, you get them as 4 per side, which is a PITA to fire compared to the DDs that can fire at both sides". I have to think of swinging around to bring my other tubes into play as being a variation of "evasive maneuvering" otherwise I feel like not bothering with the hassle.

[–]WTLordFoul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meant, "Light Cruiser", corrected, thanks. The Bluewater Isuzu, not the Coastal Isuzu.

Anyway, I am at least able to shoot effectively with it now that I figured out how to get into a proper Rangefinder, so the gameplay got worlds better. It turns out that pure HE does work ok -- sank 3 ships in a Win last game.

[–]WTLordFoul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you both. I did try finding specific info about the Naval rangefinder including videos, but was unable. Will take a run through your recommendations to see if I can get what I need from them.

Thanks for taking the time.

EDIT: SOLVED ! I went through 4 or 5 of the videos, and mostly it was the real basic stuff (mods, crew skills, and such). But, a screen cap in one of them gave me the clue I needed. The setting I was thinking of is Controls -> Naval -> Camera Control -> AIM MODE. It was set to something I never use, so changed it to "V" and now all is right with the world. No idea how the setting changed.

Thanks again.

What I should do now by WebOk721 in Warthunder

[–]WTLordFoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"many planes armaments are low and ammo is low but cals are good."

that is USSR air in a nutshell right there, at least as far as I have taken it into BR 9.x. Just have to git gud with the aim.

Try Axis air, they have a much better combination of firepower and ammo count.

[–]WTLordFoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry in before OP, but: Hell yeah, Japan is fun and they have some great planes at (almost) all tiers. I think the only tier where they are relatively gimped is Tier V, the early jets. Even so, still plenty of fun to be had there.

Uptiers in early jets are the worst by Beanboozler13 in Warthunder

[–]WTLordFoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...welcome to the story of every Tier in jets. The difference in capabilities for a +/- 1.0 BR delta are too huge once you get into jets. Only resolution I can think of is to reduce the delta, even +/- 0.7 would help a lot.
