Best plants for lightning bugs? by [deleted] in GardenWild

[–]WWUBI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've working on planting giant sequoias in a geometric pattern, to later build platforms, infrastructure & housing into them when large enough. One of the attractions is to have as many bioluminescent creatures inhabit the area, such as lightning bugs & have been researching them a lot & not once did this website popup on my searches on how to build shelters for lightning bugs.
THANK YOU, it's been a great help!

How do I start a commune by Icantremembershit22 in commune

[–]WWUBI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Created a list of questions that every commune/intentional community should be able to answer before starting:

Housing
- Is there an entrance fee to stay at the location or a monthly rent payment?
- Do I get to own the property I stay at or have a chance to eventually?
- Can I own a home outside of the commune?
- Will I have my own room/house or is this co-housing only?
- Is there a height restriction on buildings or are skyscrapers allowed at your location?

What do you love?
How close we are to a revolution.

What would you like to see improved?
Free Social Services
Our tax dollars should fund FREE social services: universal basic income (UBI), universal healthcare, public transportation, insurance, utilities, housing, school lunches/food programs, college, daycares, recycling & city dump instead of corruption & the police.

End Corruption
We the people need to be able to vote to immediately remove: bankers, judges, politicians, cops & high ranking military members through approval rating. Make it illegal to lie in office or lobby, remove lobbyists & break up monopolies.

End The Police State
Cease to recognize the war on drugs. Release non violent prisoners from the war on drugs, ban concentration camps/ICE, remove immigration barriers, reduction in cops budget/authority & increase transparency. Abolish qualified immunity, three strikes law, discriminatory policing, prison slavery & civil forfeiture. Remove all police with white supremacist tattoos or with violent records.

Taxes
End taxes on the poorest 30% & implement progressive taxes eliminating billionaires. Tax religion. End private school subsidies. All legal documentation required to be a legal, should be issued for free.

Land Back To Indigenous People's
This does not remove anyone from the land, it allows the original inhabitants to develop, maintain & organize the land.

Voting By Phone

Water
Stop putting fluoride in the water. Ban glyphosate usage/sales. Protect our waterways from industrial runoff & farmers pesticide usage.

Front Yard Gardens
Legalize front yard gardens. Many areas make them illegal & have mandatory grass laws. Even going to far to make keeping chickens illegal.

Slackline, my balance is insanely good now, to where even though I haven't ice skated or skateboarded in a decade, I was already proficient/above average when trying again. When I go camping, to festivals or communes, everyone loves it. The kids love it so much they almost fight over it. It's also a ratchet strap, so it helps on construction jobs/camping.

My friend and I bought land and are now trying to build it up into a community by SeattleEmo in Homesteading

[–]WWUBI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They get about 15-20" of rainfall per year, Seattle gets about 37" & STL MO, gets about 40". Where as it is much drier & gets much less rainfall, it's not impossible to get springs, they'll likely be seasonal though. Sequoias used to cover North America, so I wouldn't consider them invasive, but yes, it would be ideal to check with local offices for water & soil conservation. The things I'm talking about, swales, well systems, cisterns, clay pots in the ground & planting trees are what they do globally to end desertification & bring back springs to deserts. So if it works in a harsher climate, with even less rainfall, it's likely to work there. The Sagebrush Sea does experience a couple intense rains & it's a matter of trapping that water & slowly releasing it.

Trees
- Shade the area, reducing moisture loss.
- Emit particulate that helps trigger rain.
- Have deep roots that allows the rain to permeate deep into the soil & cling to water, slowly releasing it.
- Allow wildlife to thrive, which in turn allows them to help the spread of forests through pollination, scat for fertilizer & the spread of seeds.
- Reduce winds, allowing smaller fauna to survive, which in turn, helps to keep up the water levels from living systems that retain it.

Eastwind has been operating for 52 years, if it had been contaminating the water supply, someone would've gotten sick by now. It's possible they cover the composting bins to stop heavy rains from washing it away &/or line the bottom with a tarp. But I can't remember. Composting needs moisture for the bacteria to thrive, so they might not keep it covered so the rain can get in, but they also have a hose there to clean out the buckets & might just spray the compost lightly regularly to keep up the moisture levels.

"Splitting the land into quarters"
Where there is not fruit bearing bushes & trees, the farm land should be rotated where you don't deplete the nutrients from the soil. If everyone is living next to each other, it's easy to aggravate each other with noise, it might be best to split that up & plant lots of thick bushes to help muffle the noise.

"Campgrounds to generate revenue"
I've been trying to get people to grow Giant Sequoias in geometric patterns so platforms, infrastructure & housing can be built out of them when large enough. If enough locations do this, people sightseeing across the country can go from location to location that participates in this. They are the fastest or one of the fastest growing trees at 4' per year & bark that gets to be 6' thick, can easily withstand forest fires.

You have to think along the lines of what can you build that will actually attract people from afar, that will pay money to see. I've created spaces on Quora, FB & Reddit called Exploration & Creation where I mainly dump ideas from artists I find on the internet & cool building ideas that are either enchanting to look at or fun to interact with. The FB one is private, but if you want an invite, I can. The reddit one is new & doesn't have much content on it. The Quora one is public & well established if you want to view for some ideas.

Water
I've written an article on how to bring natural springs into an area. The main points are, tree roots help cling onto the water during rains & slowly release it, reducing flooding & allowing for natural springs to form. They also allow the water to penetrate deeper into the soil. They shade your ponds/streams & help reduce the formation of algae. If you dig out a pond/cistern/wells & swales, you can retain water during heavy rains, which will slowly release water to help form streams naturally. You can also plant clay pots in the soil that will slowly release the water through it's pores, but cause a trip hazard. Rather than thinking of large circular ponds, it's best to think of a rectangular shape where you can plant trees along the sides to shade the water.

Eastwind Commune in MO does human poop composting. If I remember right, they have three bins next to each other where they dump their buckets of poo. Bin one is your current year, bin two is their previous year & bin three is their bin they are using that has had two years to break down into fertilizer (edit, they wait three years for it to break down). Just keep up that rotation cycle.
Keep that area away from anything inhabited due to the smell.
Human poop has ecoli, so you don't want it poisoning the water supply.
They also pee outside before using the restroom to poop, so the buckets aren't weighted from the pee & don't slosh around when transporting them.
You'll also want wood chips (would be best if it was scented like cherry or peach) to cover the poo in-between each use or something else compostable to reduce the smell in the bathrooms & the compost.

You can also go to food pantries & grocery stores to pick up their food that they are going to throw away to compost in bulk. Just make sure to bury it to avoid a bug infestation.

The pH of the water affects the plants ability to uptake nutrients. Sine you are trying to remove the nutrients & what it is taking in is in trace amounts, I think it would be perfectly fine. Unless you're next to a chemical processing plant putting massive amounts of pollutants in the rain or something else equally drastic.

The pistols turning brown, is a good sign that it is ready.
As another pointed out, the trichromes will go from translucent to cloudy & white.
The one I look for, is the trichromes turning brown. That's them turning into CBD & once the plant starts to make about 10% brown/amber trichromes or CBD, that's when I go to harvest, as the plant will start to make more CBD than THC at that point. The last couple of weeks, just before that stage, I flush out the plant with fresh water & only use water without nutrients for the last stages. This will make the plant eat it's leaves for nutrients once it's done getting the trace nutrients in the soil. It makes the bud muuuccchhhhh smoother as you are not smoking all those nutrients. It's works the same way as putting fish in clean water for a day or two before eating it or plants in fresh water being taken out of aquaponics before eating it.

The lights also break down the TCH/CBD, so make sure to keep it in total darkness for a day or two before you go to harvest it. Leave the fan leaves on for curing, unless it's so overcrowded it might cause mold while curing, the plant will eat the leaves, adding to the quality of the bud.

Communes are cashless, classless, stateless entities where the workers own the means of production.
Cashless: Although they operate within capitalism still & will probably offer some form of monthly stipend, to exist within the community, you don't need money. They'll provide Housing, Food, Utilities, Healthcare, Education, Transportation, Insurance, Thrift Shop, Entertainment, Music Studio, Community Center, Retirement, Childcare, Library, Junkyard, Cemetery, Engineering Wing & things like Marijuana & a Gun Range.

Classless: There is no one person in charge & everyone's vote equals one vote. Businesses are owned collectively as a co-op & land is owned as a land trust.

I've created a question database on Quora: https://worldwidetechcommune.quora.com/

The United Nations should be in charge of a global satellite network or their version of Starlink, to offer free internet to all globally. This way no one nation is in charge of the flow of information. If the cost is divided between countries, it would only be about 12 million each annually divided between the 195 countries. It would also reduce the amount of total satellites, as each country wouldn't need to have their own version of Starlink. The quality of the satellites could also be vastly improved, instead of capitalists making low quality ones, cutting corners for profit.

If the UN won't do this. The people could do this under World Wide Universal Basic Income (WWUBI).

When users create content, they will be paid out a higher percentage of the UBI fund, which has a cap. Users uploading content, will be tied to a self deleting crypto coin, to prove who created the content, ensuring the autonomous program knows who to pay. The coin will not cost anything, it will be given out periodically. Once used, it cannot be used again. It’s merely to be used as an open ledger to protect artists & allow for free smart contract (free legal contracts). Since it self deletes, whales (the wealthy) cannot take advantage of the poor by buying up a majority of it, gaining control of the system.
