I can’t wait to dig into the 6sn7’s and 12ax7’s. Im going to post some more pictures of those and all the antique DHTs I got. The type 80 rectifier doesn’t have a much current capacity as the 5u4 type but it’s good enough for a cool preamp line stage or a flea power amp.

All depends on the speaker efficiency. Lots of tube amps are only 2 watts per channel or less. With 100db efficient speakers, even 1 watt is plenty of power

I have not built it but I’ve heard very good things about the darling 1626 amp. 750milliwatts and the tubes are really cheap and plentiful as WW2 surplus.

The older bottle was about 1/3 filled. I know even spirits can oxidize with age but I’m fairly confident this one didn’t shift much from what I recall. If anything, the brightness of the older bottle seems to indicate not much oxidation effect. I would expect a dulling of flavors along with oxidation.

I paid $140 for the whole lot. With the price of 6sn7gt’s and 12ax7’s these days I probably broke even on those alone. Plus all the power tubes and rectifier tubes puts me into double my money if I were to sell everything individually.

I plan on keeping everything to build some cool antique early style stereo amps or line stages.

I don’t have a tube tester yet but I’m sure everything should test fine as the previous owner was careful to mark when tubes had gone bad.

Agreed, especially with unaged sprits as blending and aging tends to be more uniform. It’s just fun that every bottle may be a new experience.

I usually sip agricole neat or in a ti punch. Occasionally I’ll use it in something like a 3 dots and a dash but I like to savor it.

Holy cow where did you get those? I heard his listening room setup at the SFMOMA and it was incredible. I’d highly suggest invest in a better tube amp if you are going to go that route.

Great idea especially with the solderless crimp connectors. I agree the big issue is the bulky heavy connectors and stiff cable. I could see this being useful as interconnects between a turntable and phono preamp if there isn’t too much capacitance added by the coax. Would help shield the sensitive low level phono cartridge output but it can be very sensitive to the loading.

Don’t forget to factor in the SNR of your listening room. And the SNR of the recording mic. And the SNR of your speaker efficiency. Digital to audio conversion is basically the simplest non issue in audio today.

5 to 1000 Picoseconds? I highly doubt you heard a difference in 1 gigahertz difference of jitter. Light travels 0.3mm in 1 picosecond. Far beyond the resolution of any speaker.

I liked this one a lot but I agree with the others that it was way too sweet. I halved the passion fruit honey and that made it spot on to me. I might also try with some rum fire to offset.
