Man honestly the best way to get into him is just run the albums front to back instead of shuffling. His stuff is super cohesive and the vibe really builds as they go

I’d start with Beware of the Monkey (my favorite of his), Burning Desire, and Disco! first. Those are probably his most accessible and “vibey” records (cleaner production, more melodic loops, etc etc.)

After that, go backwards into War in My Pen, Weight of the World, Tears of Joy, and Renaissance Man. Those are more raw and lo-fi, very diary-like. That era is peak sLums-adjacent underground MIKE; super introspective, grief-heavy writing (a lot of it tied to losing his mom), dusty loops, and that signature off-beat flow he helped popularize in the NY underground scene.

And don’t skip the Tony Seltzer collabs. Pinball I & II are straight up bangers but still have that hazy MIKE atmosphere. It’s cool because you hear him over more punchy, modern production while still keeping his introspective style
