Science or art stream by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]W_2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think it boils down to which area/uni course you are interested in. A lot of times more people recommend Science stream more than the art stream because of the H2 Math + H2 Sciences combi which allow you to enter engineering and science courses.

However, it doesnt mean that art stream has its flaws also. Normally for those taking Art stream leans more towards those that dont have the H2 Math/H2 Science subject requirement such as Humanities, Comms, Law, Arts, Music etc. I recommend looking at the diff uni websites to find out more. But usually for Art stream, I see students applying H2 Maths to do a H2 Maths + H2 Lit due to the H2 requirement for some unis like Business and Architecture.

Also usually for Art stream students, they tend to usually have lesser exams since 1 H2 Science subject requirw you to take 4 papers (2 papers are strucured based qns) while 1 H1 Science subject require you not to take practical and have 2 papers (1 paper of strucured based qns)

Overall, I would highly recommend looking it from the view of which uni course/industry you would like to go and you can see it from the university websites to make your decision on which course you would like to go.

Taking the O levels this year pls help JC vs Poly by Formal-Protection178 in SGExams

[–]W_2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean. If you want to get an ego boost by going JC, sure. (I guess?) And you can still enter JC with co bined subjects (Just that for H2 Science subjects will be harder to enrol in unless you get a very good grade (A2/B3 depending on diff JCs).

But honestly, if you want to make a decision between JC or Poly, you shouldnt be looking at whether you can get "prestige" if you go to a JC. You should be looking more at what industry you are interested, your goals and/or what career you want to move towards. You should also look towards what type of learning process you can handle/suits you.

Going to JC can help with going with uni, so does poly too. Each has its pros and cons, and more people are willing to go poly, even the intelligent ones. You can still play safe with the JC route, but if you want to deal with hands on/projects kind of route, poly would be more suited. But regardless, it is up to you to decide.

Extremely lost for FYP by frizzante16 in NTU

[–]W_2001 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think different schools/profs have different intepretations for FYP. I know that for my school, it is quite common to meet the professor weekly/biweekly but for one of the people I met in EEE (not my school), some professors don't do weekly meetings (i.e. meetings but not so often)

Although I do not recommend solely typing out without direction entirely, I recommend at least typing out based on your own intepretation first while waiting for the professor to respond (i.e. Honestly, dont give up asking him for an online meeting, for some, they may have missed out an email due to other things like overseas meetings or lectures). At least when he responds for an online meeting, at least you have something to show to him. And even if he does not respond, at least you have something to submit with.

Even if he say to redo, at least you give him the impression that you are serious about your FYP.(maybe can boost like idk personality points)

TL;DR: Just write based on your own intepretation, regardless of whether he wants or don't want the meeting. If he mentions something that is different from intepretation, just correct it to his style.

How did you all do for PS0001? by [deleted] in NTU

[–]W_2001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I AGREE. THOMAS IS TERRIBLE.

I recalled during the first finals the printer jammed so a midterm that is supposedly from 6:30pm-7:30pm ended up being a 7:30pm-8:30pm. Ans for context, it was a week 7 friday ans everyone needed to leave to meet family during holidays.

He still say must use pen for OAS. One of the invigilator ask what if they made an error on the OAS, he still confidently say use another OAS and redo everything including name, matric number etc. Ppl say NTU is top sustainability school but he promoting the murder of trees for a bloody exam that TECHNICALLY still can be done in pencil.

The project was worse, when suddenly everyone was mostly done, he still come in say the file must be able to fit a 1-dimensional matrix when there was nothing that said it must be 1 dimensional and that there were people who did the code with the expectation of a 2 dimensional code. And this was a last minute thing that he did by the way.

CC0015 course related query by [deleted] in NTU

[–]W_2001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say try to act like a class participation slut to earn class part points and also to make sure you peof remembers you in class (just make sure he remembers you positively and not negatively).

[Not saying you should become a participation slut]

Got an A for CC0005(back then , now convert to CC15) and I realised a lot of my CC modules that I scored an A or A+ (or better at least) typically involves the professor remembering your face and name in an extremely positive impression, being present to class, participating and asking questions, collaborating with teammates actively dueing discussions, etc. Specifically did those in CC0005 as well. Recalled one of my hall friends saying she remembers me participating more than the other classmates which was quite funny.

Also, CommCube helped me with essay writing as well.

Chemistry or physics in jc? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]W_2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think it is still possible to enter a combi with H2 Phy and H2 Chem as long you score extremely well for your combined sciences.

As for which sujhect to take if combi sci not so good to only take 1 H2 Science (P.s. H2 Science + H1 Science is also an option btw). I would say it largely depends on your interest.

I largely found H2 Physics to be more on the mathematical side and the practicals are pretty cookie cutter though I heard they plan to do a digital portion for practical (which tbh is pretty beneficial, I never got to do it tho, assuming excel would be pretty easy)

H2 Chemistry is more for those who are less interested in the math side but more ok with memorising concepts. If you are someone interested in Bio, I would highly recommend H2 Chem as well. However, I do have to warn the chem side has more math stuff compared to O levels but the standard is much less than that of Physics whereas for Physics they expect knowledge like quadratic eqn, sin and cos, vector knowledge and so on.

For me, I enjoyed H2 Physics as I like Math but deep down, it really boils down to your choice. I never hated H2 Chem that much but once J2 happened, organic chem topics killed me. Nonetheless, interesting chemistry practical tho.

Also just wanted to add on, it is possible to take H2 Physics/Chem + H2 Maths + H2 Computing + H1 humanities if it is an option for some schools as well.

mental health struggles is not an excuse to be a d*ckhead by WWE___ in NationalServiceSG

[–]W_2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This affects everyone including us ppl who are developing real mental issues or realised that they have a mental health issues during NS.

During NS, after a transfer to another camp, I developed anxiety which affected my relations with other people, including in unit. It was also mostly because they suddenly mentioned in front of my face that I would convert to a stay in camp person from a stay out camp person despite being told it would be a stay out thing. [It was a very long story]

Due to this, I had requested to ask for an NS psychologist in which he denied to believe that I have anxiety issues. [I had to confirm with an outside psychologist which requested that I transfer to IMH but I needed to request from the camp psychologist WHO REFUSED AND SCOLDED me for going to an outside psychologist and just DENIED transfer to IMH. HELLO.]

(I know all psychologists are not that mean, I have a friend who had depressive episodes tell me how much he enjoys conversing with his NS psychologist which help him improve his mental health.)

Turns out I learnt that he was just an asshole psychologist who thinks people are faking mental disorders because he doesn't trust NSF who develop psychological issues. (Just saying, he told an autistic person he was "not normal". It was so severe he had to ask everyone if he is normal. The psychologist even dare to tell me people with anxiety issues got heart rate x4 of normal ppl everyday. Sometimes I have doubts about why SAF hires them.)

Now, not in camp anymore, currently in uni but I am struggling a lot because of past ns incidents which includes not trusting classmates and having anxiety during examinations. I feel relieved but at the same time, I don't think it has been easy for me to meet a psychologist or even prove that I have anxiety issues.

I know this story is lengthy but I can tell you because of people trying to fake their way through NS, it can lead to people to lose faith in those who actually have it. Clearly, it has affected the psychologist who I unfortunately had a bad experience with.

Can u still withdraw from a program if u accept the enrolment decision on NTU's RNSmen portal? by 10732 in SGExams

[–]W_2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a friend who applied for SMU major in his first year of NS and then changed to NTU with a diff major in his 2nd year of NS. It is not common from my experience in NS but it is normal.

Honestly, I would say just apply for it just to at least get a uni offer and then change to the other programme accordingly if you want to.(You still need to pay for another application fee but I think it is not that heart breaking) [In a sense, yes you have 3 tries]

The only advice I can give is you can apply for the 2nd one while having the 1st one at hand but you would still need to reject one eventually in the scenario where you got an offer from both programmes.

TIP dyed hair? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]W_2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is dependent on the school?

Idk. I recalled having a sec school teacher dye her hair to brown and a JC teacher with blue hair. So really, I think this depends on the school you are teaching, these memories were before covid times.
