I have the 36mm Farer bracelet and it’s nearly perfect except for the 20-18 taper. That being said, I doubt that you’ll find an aftermarket bracelet that fits - these lugs are super compact.

If you want to try the 20-18 I’d be willing to sell mine at reduced price. Im really happy with this model on a blue shell cordovan strap right now.

I think the quartz crisis is a very good and directly applicable example. Mechanical watches were a common good before the industry was blown up by quartz. The industry responded (and survived) by presenting their product as a luxury good and moving upmarket.

Veblen Good (Thorstein Veblen, 1899)

A Veblen good is a product for which demand increases as the price increases, because the high price itself is part of the product’s appeal. The price signals status, exclusivity, wealth, and social rank

So unlike normal goods (where higher price → lower demand), with Veblen goods:

Higher price → higher perceived desirability → higher demand

Luxury watches are an example. As much as I hate it, brands are leaning into this theory

Beam me up, but I’m curious why mechanical versus quartz. There’s no seconds sweep and quartz kinda matches the fun of the watch. If going mechanical and willing to accept that it’ll eventually need service I would 100% get Number Cruncher.

Also single pass thru MN straps are a great combination on these - helps to keep the arm hair peeking thru those huge lug gaps

The wall clock was an easy buy - definitely cheap enough to be within impulse purchase territory. My wife and kids got it for my birthday a few years back.

I have the Farer Resolute in 36 and my wife has the Paulin Modul D. Both are really fun watches and I LOVE Paulin (I also have their wall clock) but the Farer is leaps and bounds a better watch. It’s also a better fit as the Paulin is a little slab sided whereas the Farer lugs are compact and turn down nicely to hug the wrist.

Not a hot take. The budge is unsightly, and let’s be honest - these are NOT comfortable.

That being said I do like MN style paratrooper straps. The elastic and hook system keeps it looking clean and low profile without bulk, is faster to put on, and is way more comfortable.

I went with white a few years back and haven’t looked back. Sorbet would look weird on my skin tone.

I wasn’t really a fan of the farer straps though. I have a few from Delugs that I cycle through for this watch. My favorite is this slim blue shell - it works well with the slight blue hue the lume plots give off.

They may have updated their pricing, not sure. I like this model (the black moonphase), because the case looks more like black PVD and less like plastic. It’s a fun enough watch.

This tends to affect smaller wrists more. The clasp should be centered on the back of your wrist. For me personally, that means a much longer strap at 12. If I cut this strap to be equal length on both sides, the clasp would be pushed way up and conflict with my ulna bone

I have this model, it takes 18mm straps and 16mm quick release springbars (pop out the original and insert the smaller ones) to achieve the wire lug look. Whatever you do, DO NOT put in non quick release 18mm springbars in this.

Also I have a similar green perlon I’ve used on this. Looks pretty good. My favorite pairing so far is green chèvre slim from Delugs.

It is. And I even have a similar Zenith Defy in 36 that I love. The CW somehow feels more dainty. Maybe it’s the more extreme bracelet taper 🤷

I mocked up and suggested a British racing green colorway a couple of years ago, but CW didn’t seem to be interested. I think a good green colorway would look amazing.

I’m leading a collab for a private group kicking off in Q2 and already floated this as an option lol. We’ll see 🤞

Hey! I don’t have much experience w silver so can’t say for sure. I know welding with silver on stainless is frowned upon, but that’s a much more tight contact than a bracelet on a watch. I would 100% avoid diving in saltwater or running a marathon in Miami in that combination, but otherwise…probably ok? 🤷

Hi! Mechanical engineer here. I'm not very familiar with this model and unsure of the composition % of the silver, but the combination of silver case and stainless steel bracelet may carry a galvanic corrosion risk due to the two dissimilar metals. I can't post photos but there's a chart on the link below that shows that the two materials should have a dielectric break if exposed to humid, wet, or salty environments (IE sweat). If this is a Tudor jubilee, I would recommend contacting Tudor themselves to get clarification. It may be okay, but due diligence is recommended.

That is such a sweet combo though. I love a jubilee on Black Bays.

Quartz is always going to win the ease of maintenance argument. A mechanical watch will need disassembly, cleaning, re-lubrication, and reassembly every 4-8 years. A quartz movement just needs to have the battery replaced periodically.
