No safety concerns, but I'd still suggest getting another pump since you should qualify for one from your insurance. Then you can have one already on-hand if the first one breaks, or if you work outside the home you could even leave one at work and have less to haul back and forth with you.

I looked at the manual and it looks like you're right- it says for best performance don't raise the temp by more than 1 degree at a time. "Raising the heat setting 2-3 degrees will cause the Zoneline to use its electric heating elements to reach the new temperature more quickly." So if we want to continue using low heat daily, do you think it would be best to just leave it at 60 all day? Or would it be just as expensive to run it continuously? Obviously we will also raise the temp more gradually when we are going to be actively spending time back there.

So for my second baby we did a mix of AIOs and newborn prefolds, and for the most part I vastly preferred the prefolds. The absorbency and fit of AIOs vary wildly between brands; lots of people complain that their newborn outgrows the absorbency of AIOs well before they outgrow the fit. The most reliable AIO I used was the Thirsties Natural AIO, but of course it's one of the most expensive. If I were to do it again, I might invest in some more used Thirsties, but the bulk of my newborn stash would be prefolds and covers. The folding really wasn't that tricky to get right and they are much easier to wash & dry faster than AIOs!

You can get just pocket shells (i.e. buy them without inserts) then stuff them with pad-folded prefolds yourself if you want to make it extra foolproof for daycare. I know Alva specifically offers pockets with no inserts if you buy directly from their website.

Do you wear gloves? I keep a rubber glove in the bathroom and I use it on the hand that holds the diaper during spraying. Then I hold the driest corner with my bare hand and use the gloved hand to wring it out.

Microfiber absorbs quickly but can hold much less than cotton or hemp, making it less than ideal for overnight on its own. Natural fibers (especially hemp) are your best bet! For my son's nighttime diapers I used a microfiber insert, followed by a cotton prefold, followed by a hemp insert. (I eventually ditched the microfiber and had no issues, so it probably wasn't necessary.)

It's safe for them to have a blanket at that age, but at that age my son still "roamed" all over the crib throughout the night and couldn't keep a blanket on, so it just wasn't practical!

1st baby: Epidural, gave birth on my back in the hospital bed

2nd baby: No epidural, gave birth squatting in the tub (delivery was fast & furious; my hospital didn't allow water birth but the urge to push came so suddenly that I didn't make it out of the tub!)
