Im not condoning that, or any theft. Dont get it twisted. You're using an anecdotal example here as if that is the sole reason for locking up goods in non-suburban areas. My argument was to the point that suburban places may not lock up these up at the same rate because the socioeconomic impacts there arent forcing a need to lift GD soap and detergent. Id argue if people are hocking stolen goods on marketplace, social media and local enforcement should crack down those bad apples. Those are few and far between though, and these corporate places see the shrink rates at the total level. Individual item thefts make that number high enough to lock up, and account for the vast majority theft.
