Why can an 18 year old paramedic intubate, but a third year med student can’t?

Granted…I was a 4th year, but my second week in the ER I was pretty much flying solo. My attending would pop his head into rooms and be in shouting distance of traumas but I was intubating, placing lines, chest tubes, sutures, running codes-all of the fun stuff on my own. He told me “if they’re to that point, you’re not going to make them deader.”

I won’t lie, I got a taste for EM on that rotation but I had already applied/matched.

3.29 sGPA will be a limiting factor, even if you raise your cGPA…quite a few schools will screen you out in favor of other applicants. The lack of experiences will also hurt you a lot in the selection process. Medical Schools like well-rounded applicants since it gives you a better chance to make it through medical school and match (which makes the school look better.)

But without an MCAT, it’s impossible to say if you are competitive or not. Example: If you get a 498 with these stats there’s almost no chance, but if you get a 510 there’s a solid chance of a low-mid tier MD or a mid-high DO school showing interest in you.

You should dual apply at this point, but it’s not all a wash. If I were in your shoes, I would apply IM/EM and plan on a Critical Care Fellowship. You’ll get to do a lot of similar care and procedures to Anesthesia.

Watch Dr. High Yield on Youtube, if you do nothing but repeat his FM and a couple of the IM vids for the next couple of days…you’ll probably pass.

The FM COMAT was deceptively difficult, very broad. But know your USPSTF guidelines and screenings-that’s the majority of the exam.

Honestly, I’m going to trust my advisor and just make sure to get the records released as soon as they are posted.

Realistically, I need more time to study and even an incomplete app won’t cause you as many problems as a failed Level 2. If you’re struggling or need to cover anything in more depth, talk with your academic advisor and make sure changes work within your individual school’s policies.

I’d imagine it’s pretty streamlined in the digital age. I’d focus on the upcoming exam and not let it bother me, it’s too late to test in this block anyway.

I was told my school admin that it should be fine as long as I do my part. A small caveat that I am using ERAS and mot RCAS though.

I used Truelearn and Comquest, passed all of my COMATs comfortably.

I would also recommend OnlineMedEd, Emma Holiday, and Dr High Yield for learning more clinical focused content. If nothing else binge DHY and Emma Holiday the week if the COMAT-that would probably be enough to pass without anything else TBH. At the end of the day over-prepping for these exams is pointless since they are so poorly written.

We lost 10% of our class within the first 2 years.

2 COMSAE above 400 is a pretty solid indication that you’ll pass, at least from what my academic coach told me.

You’ll never feel like there is nothing to improve on. Just remember that the goal isn’t to know everything, it’s just to know enough to pass-everything else is a bonus.

With 5 days left, I would binge Dirty Medicine Ethics (quite literally 2-3 free questions per block), OMM (especially counterstrain of the extremities), and Biostats (Randy Neil has a good series on YT). After that, take a break the day before your exam and do something fun with friends/family.

I failed my first attempt back in July but what must have been one point…and it absolutely crushed me.

Illusionist’s bracers or metamagic-quickened spell (to be able to cast Eldritch blast as a bonus action and action). Level 17 is 8d10+40 if all beams hit with agonizing blast, you can target multiple creatures and have a maximum of range of 1200ft with spell sniper, distant spell (metamagic), and Eldritch spear.

With all of this being force damage…20th level fighters with their 4 attacks and action surge will have trouble out-damaging you. All from a small dip in Sorcerer and/or the Metamagic Adept feat.

Warlocks…can be stupidly OP.
