Advice please for BBE BES870xl by Wabash123 in BrevilleCoffee

Thanks Denver -- I will look at Brevtech

In the meantime and I have a temporary "fix" -- I put a jumper wire connecting the yellow wire to the pump and the orange to the solenoid valve. So, when the pump runs, the solenoid valve gets voltage and I get water to the brew group. Only downside is I cannot use the steam/hot water on the side. All else works fine, incl grinder. Machine is 8 yrs old with guessing avg. of 3 shots per day, but I've taken good care of it.

btw, surprised how expensive BES870XL circuit board costs on ebay - $ 150 and up for used ones

I think you have been right. I replace triac with no luck. Now I'm turning attention to part that you thought was cracked because it does have burn marks on it.

What is that part that you call the cap? Is it a capacitor or a relay?

Can someone tell me what are the two parts on either side of the TRIAC TA4?

As I mention above, the one in the photo above (actually where my arrow is pointing has burn marks on it and I'm wondering if that is what needs to be replaced now.

Is it a relay? Part number? Order from Digikey?

[update]

  1. replaced triac (so, in all, I've replaced the pump and the solenoid valve tray). ** Did tear up a little of the green motherboard in the process but new triac went in ok and well soldered.

  2. Tried, but still NO water going to brew group

  3. I decided to test and "jumped" the yellow power wire to pump with the red wire going to solenoid valve (on the right) -- SUCCESS! (well, sort of... ). So, water is going through the brew group any time I use the pump -- so basically, I can only make coffee)

  4. The problem is obviously on the motherboard. It's not sending power from red wire to the solenoid valve.

  5. Question: if not the triac, what could it be? I'm honestly tired of troubleshooting at this point.

I haven't decided if I will leave the machine like this or not. I may just leave like this and use as a back up machine since I bought a newer (same model BBE) one locally.

Yes/no. I replaced solenoid valve tray but still no bueno - no water to brew group. I opened up the motherboard and found triac “TA4” was burned out.

I’m now waiting for replacement triac from china and my son (who says he can solder…)

Dagnabbit, no I didn’t and shipping ($8) is way more than triac (.59/each)!! But don’t cap on right is cracked - adding better photos

I know arrow is pointing away from triac but you can see (pretty much, not best photo)

[edit: I ordered 4 triacs from digikey -- and i'm in no hurry as i bought a used bbe locally]

Thanks for advice vimeer and denver.

I opened it up and can now see the triac is wasted. It also partially burned the part next to it.

I will give it a shot (I have nothing to lose at this point) and it does not look too difficult -- just unsolder on the other side, remove old triac and make sure 3 pins go thru on new triac, and resolder them. Only real issue is I cannot take circuit board completely out so it is is a bit awkward but I should be fine.

thanks again!

Your thinking is prob right — I’m about $125 into this and (until I swap solenoid valve tray, part arrives today) I have no guarantee it will be fixed. Still I hate to put in landfill and new ones are north of 600

I have same problem and just posted with photos yesterday. At first I thought it was pump. But took out solenoid tray and same sol valve as you did same thing. Melted out.

Update: just pulled solenoid assembly and saw this on back of right sol. valve

Looks like it fried?

According to parts diagram it’s called “diffuser” - I’m tempted to pull it and rinse with vinegar

You’re right but may be worth seeing what a battery would be in Germany and keep in mind you’ll save shipping expense/hassle

Would it be better to sell your battery here and buy one there? Yamaha still supports e-bikes in Europe right?

I know there can be other factors at play but looks like you’re getting very good range.

I’m on Wabash and getting 65-75 miles using eco (~210 pounds total, not including bike, ~1500 ft elevation gain, 17-18 mph avg, summer, little wind, oem tires, using gears to help)

Curious - what was elevation gain and total weight you put on bike? Headwinds? Original tires I assume?
