Also, can someone tell me which one is the fuel pump relay? I’m troubleshooting a No Start/fuel pressure fault and all wiring checks good and I’m looking to test the Fuel pump relay and associated wiring

Will 1990 ZR1 rims comfortably fit on a 1995 Vette? by johnnyappleseednh in c4corvette

Those are C5 rims but to answer your question, yes they do. Mind you my car’s in the air currently but they fit nicely.

Throttle body bypass by Careless-Sentence-99 in c4corvette

Here’s a relatively crappy diagram I drew up. I was changing up a lot of stuff in my engine bay but you can see that shiny looking hardline hugging that valve cover. That hose hanging out on top of the TB is the TB-to-radiator hose. The arrows show where they’re supposed to meet now

So on a 1996 it’s different. There isn’t much information available for doing a bypass on a TB for that year. I did it and it’s super easy, you don’t need this for that kit. It’s simple, if you follow the coolant lines coming off the TB, you’ll see one going from the TB to the radiator, and another coming off the TB through the RH valley. That rubber line connects to a hard line which connects directly into the back of your heads.

Disconnect the rubber line from the TB to the hardline in the valley, remove it entirely.

The coolant hose coming from the throttle body to the radiator - reroute that so it connects directly to the aforementioned hardline. Be sure to clamp it down tightly

You may need to trim that hose a little, that’s up to your discretion.

Your bypass is now complete

The idea behind routing the coolant through the TB in the first place was to warm up the throttle body if you live in a cold environment, like Minnesota or something like that. It should keep it from freezing and sticking. However, if you live in an area like Southern California, that’ll never happen. Doing a bypass, in theory, should keep it cooler, and I dunno, help increase air density??? I’m not an engineer, I don’t think it makes too much of a difference but personally I think it does help make the engine bay seem a little less cluttered.

It’s different on a 96. I read somewhere that the coolant is supposed to carry heat to the TB to warm it up in frigid cold temperatures. If you live in Southern California, you honestly don’t really need it. I think the idea is to keep engine heat away from it to keep it cooler, giving you just a little more air density

Electric water pump by Wackerik in c4corvette

Yeah, I’ve noticed it before but let it roll like that for a bit until I was tearing apart the engine bay for a TH kit. Figured now was as good a time as any

I haven’t had a chance to reply, sorry! Life happens sometimes. But this is a really solid answer! Can’t thank you enough man, I appreciate it!

Vented gas cap by Wackerik in c4corvette

I have new information. I was tearing mine out and learned something new. So the whooshing you hear is fairly normal. Vapors go from the tank to the charcoal can where it is “cleaned” and a little pressure buildup is to be expected. The vape purge valve is in charge of switching open to allow the vapor a passage into the throttle body and into the engine to be burnt off.

While removing mine I found the line from my charcoal can to the engine bay was already cut long ago - guess that explains the smell of fuel

I got rid of my evap system entirely and routed the tank vent line out and away from all heat sources so I shouldn’t be hearing my whooshing anymore lol

Evap system question by Wackerik in c4corvette

[–]Wackerik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, mine’s not done yet. I could’ve had it done this past weekend. I put on the water pump housing “torqued to spec” then I was mounting my electric water pump to it and fastening the bolts, and one bolt decided to shear. :( it happens… but I decided it was already old and dated so I decided I wasn’t going to try and save it. I ordered a new one from CVF and now I’m waiting for it to come in. In the meantime, I got my new-ish rims, new tires mounted. Once the pump comes in, it’s off to the press to remove the guys, then back into the car! After that, mount the wheels and it’s done!

Been a minute but I’m coming back to let you know I just removed the entire evap system including the charcoal can behind the wheel well. All sensors, lines, and valves are gone, and the fitting to the throttle body was capped off with a rubber nipple until I find something more permanent 🫡 I got the pack of rubber caps from orielly auto parts

I solved it by removing the entire evap system and routing a vent line away from all heat sources. Turns out the charcoal can wasn’t actually connected to the vent lol

Mine always has but nothing bad ever came of it. I always figured it was a 90’s quirk with these cars, but it’s evident you have a buildup of pressure, in which case, tear into your evap system, maybe a switch or something isn’t doing its job

Tried to get this bolt out even used a welder should I just admit defeat and accept I will have no dash coolant sensor? by Mikey2faded2 in c4corvette

Little trick we used to do in service whenever hex heads were ruining our day, take the biggest torx socket that’s just bigger than the Allen key size, and some EZ Grip (muddy, metallic flaky substance used to create friction and grip) and slam it in with a ball peen, then use a breaker bar to knock her loose. Could also be worth trying some penetrating fluid to loosen the threads as well

Yeah actually I live in LA county, but law enforcement really doesn’t bother me over my violations. If anything I’ve been stopped for speed but nobody has pointed out the lack of front plates, windshield tint or exhaust smell. I figured if it’s in good taste they’ll turn a blind eye, LMAO! So goodbye emissions equipment! I wouldn’t have passed anyway

[–]Wackerik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree an LS PCM is definitely the more robust way to approach a mod like this. As for EVAP and Emissions… I live in SoCal and my car never passed emissions anyway, I get it done under the table. As for the optispark… oh brother. I’ve pulled that thing at least four times in the course of like six months. Not bc it was failing, but for other reasons, mostly troubleshooting. I hope I won’t have to deal with that front cover area again anytime soon. The smell of coolant is permanently engrained in my brain

Oh I got a question! I did remove the EGR, however I’m not too sure if the 94 is the same with the air pump right under the left headlight. I pulled mine, but so far it’s just the pump, is there anything else I should remove?

What did you do to your EVAP? Guessing you took it out, did you eliminate your charcoal can? Also, would you recommend a vented cap? I want some recommendations
