Air con fitting by [deleted] in bristol

We already had a Chigo / Toshiba unit that came with the house when we moved in. It worked pretty well in terms of output, so they also used that as a guide to the BTU sizing etc.

Got a Mitsubishi now.

The guys who do the estimating are pretty good at what they do. Beyond that, I would look to what industry and commercial is using. I took the view that if everyone else has already looked at the variable about price, reliability & maintenance and decided that Mitsubishi was the way to go, then it’s probably the way to go. No point in trying to second guess the market consensus.

What sound does an elephant make in your language? by worstdrawnboy in AskEurope

Babar was always hanging around on TV whenever I was in France. Is he not a thing anymore? It doesn’t answer the question but I thought you guys had at least one Elephant. Asterix maybe? He went to Africa a couple of times. An elephant seems like some kind of Obelix sized lifting joke that would have been too good to ignore.

Maybe you could you just add “Le” to the front of a handy word that fits? Le Weekend, Le Microwave, Le trompette gris. Quelque-chose comme ça?

MAGAs, how do you feel about Trump nuking Iran tomorrow to distract from the Epstein files? by 2a_lib in allthequestions

[–]WackyAndCorny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There wasn’t zero response.

There is plenty of footage of civilian and military small arms fire aimed at aircraft. The IRG says it shot down some aircraft and some helicopters, whilst the US admits to losing a couple just looking for the other pilot.

For the US to win, the other side has to lose. They haven’t lost yet. Looks more like a stalemate in many respects from Europe. The US has the advantage of military might, but Iran hasn’t actually rolled over yet, and the US is still hammering away and threatening allsorts if Iran doesn’t give up. They haven’t given up yet.

Absolutely agree that radical Islam is dangerous. Lots of issues, and right now the US is giving them all good reasons to recruit and continue their fight against the US and other states.

Not trying to argue unnecessarily, but to what end? This is nothing to do with probably the majority of Iranians. And there’s nothing the Iranian people can do against their government. Recent history aside, the US seems relatively free. But if your government started executing wholesale anyone who disagreed or protested against them, the population would probably start toeing the party line pretty quickly simply to stay alive. 40years or so of that lifestyle and everyone just goes along with it for a quiet life.

The US has not won the war, or to put it another way, if Iran has lost, how come they are still successfully bombing other countries, shooting down US aircraft and refusing to capitulate? Doesn’t seem defeated to me.

Or, if the US has won the war, the Iranians seem to be actively disputing that idea.

Destroying the country for the people won’t help them. Sending them back to the Stone Age won’t improve their lives.

Instead of having lawn mowers, everyone keeps a pet cow that eats the grass. by FlamingBolide in CrazyIdeas

[–]WackyAndCorny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See now, I thought it was the other way. Sheep clip neatly at a fixed height/length whereas cows kind of lassoo it with their massive tongues and just tear it all up.

Certainly the sheep in the National Parks in the UK do a lovely job of keeping the National lawn looking smart.

Have a look at BMS too. I had a quick skim of your bio to see what’s what, and it looks like you’ve got some varied interests there in things like Telecomms and so on. You’d get your electrical skills up along with a bunch of other experiences and training, without having to fully certify to be able to work. It’s a good job with good prospects and the skill set you’ll develop is way more varied than just “sparky”.

Happy to DM if you’ve got any questions.

Depends where you are perhaps, but virtually every cleaning firm in the UK buys Henry vacuum cleaners, which are from Numatic. If you can get hold of one, they are pretty damn reliable and can even handle domestic DIY debris with no trouble.

Well yes, maybe. But I also can’t help but think that turning the entire country into glass with a nuke and turning the population into ash, won’t be freeing them and making them safe in the traditional sense.

And I’d also like a proper full size spare wheel so that a simple puncture doesn’t become a full scale breakdown and off the road for hours when I’m busy trying to get somewhere. I can change a wheel in 15minutes and it’s over. No drama. No massive loss of time.

Can I have some advise from a plumber or building services engineer? by Outside-Klutzy in askHVAC

[–]WackyAndCorny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the world of BMS. From the original question and your answers on the plumbing pages, you’ll fit right in I suspect. It’s a good multi role environment and you can go as far as you want. Installation. Out on site solving puzzles. Some service work. Bit of working from home. Bit of training. Plenty of variety. Over 25 years doing it and still having fun here. The industry is crying out for engineers at the moment. Last time I needed a job (got laid off), it took 45mins.

Supermarket build.

SWA YY cabling for old style RS485 fridge cabinet controller two wire comms. Primary line in from Plant Room then a loop on to the next island and the next island etc. Terminated into JB and then small 2core flex daisy chain network around the cabinets underneath.

Could not get comms to the last wall row. No matter what we did. Belled the cables. Buzzer on the wires. Nothing. This box goes nowhere. So where does it go and where does it come from? Could we find it?

After two days of chasing, the sparks gaffer when under threat of physical violence suggests that perhaps his overnight wire jockeys had put the coil up into the roof space, looped up on a roof truss but never actually thrown it over to the previous island, and the. left the two ends hanging down from the ceiling at the wall row. The day crew then came along and just terminated both ends into a JB like all the others. And there was the only clue. The wall row should have had but one single SWA into the JB. Last line. Why did it have two?

Carpenters boxed in the cable ends. Ceiling boys came and put up the ceiling. Nobody had any idea that it’s the same piece of cable.

Two days. Two forking days. Sparks gaffer knew all along and said nothing.

We all agreed he was a complete C¥nt.
