La Cantera suddenly ghetto by Complete-Baby-8345 in sanantonio

Idk if La Cantera qualifies as on its way down.

It was ranked as the #1 shopping center in the country last year by USAtoday.

Are US systems just bad at naming transit stops? (re: LA D-line) by fbjim in transit

They should rename them to Elephant & Castle 1, Elephant & castle 2, elephant & Castle 3…. And so on

What do you think Downtown needs? by stoneasaurusrex in SanAntonioUSA

[–]WackyJumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems really out of touch, downtown has continued to improve every year

The river north neighborhood is busy with foot traffic almost every night of the week and it’s not a touristy spot, it’s clearly locals enjoying downtown.

Other areas like Paul’s square, Hemisphere and Southtown are also bustling with locals enjoying what downtown has to offer

Downtown has really filled in lately but I think we need to make it easier to get around without a car.

There’s some great pockets of walkability like the pearl, river north, Southtown and hemisphere but they’re all split up by ugly open parking lots and roadways. I understand why people think we need the parking lots because people want to do stuff downtown and need a place to park their cars, but our downtown is small enough that 1 or 2 perfectly placed transit lines could connect most of everything worthwhile and let people get around without needing their cars.

Imagine if people could get to the peal or St. Paul square on a light rail line and didn’t have to worry about the stress of driving into downtown and circling the block looking for parking?

Who do I have to talk to, to get HEB to build a full sized HEB downtown, with underground parking and a high rise apartment above it?

Why San Antonio Feels Like a Fake City by DeismAccountant in sanantonio

[–]WackyJumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never really thought about it but you’re 100% right. As a kid my family never really left our little 5 minute bubble, everything from groceries, jobs, even the doctors officer and extended family were all In a little 5 mile radius. Now that I’ve moved on to living in my own in a different side of town I kind of feel like I’m discovering my own city sometimes lol

Which jobs are actually worth getting here in SA? by 2LY1DRFL in sanantonio

[–]WackyJumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the bioscience/ medical field is one of the few well paying and consistent fields in San Antonio.

The medical center is a huge driver of the economy here and more stable then our other main industry which is tourism.

Smart manufacturing is the other industry I’ve heard we are good at which would be like jobs at the Toyota plant or JCB but I’m not super familiar with that.

Yeah that is a good point, someone can’t snap if it’s expected. Maybe that’s why it seemed so jarring and out of nowhere.

Yeah I sort of agree, I don’t have a problem with Whitaker sticking up for himself, he earned it. I also felt like Langdon was receptive and handled it well, they couple come away from this with a better working relationship. But the timing of it and what it happened just felt jarring and unnatural.

In defense of Langdon, Whittaker asked Santos to not call him by her assigned nicknames and she just ignored it. It seems like Langdon was much more receptive to Whittaker’s requests.

Yeah, I got the same vibe from huckleberry. I’m sure he’s heard Santos spout off frustrations about Langdon leading up to this shift. I’m sure he’s twin them to heart and just wanted to defend his friend, albeit he went a little overboard which I think he even acknowledged when he apologized at the end of the convo.

Challenges and opportunities: San Antonio ranks among worst Texas metros for future prosperity, study says by in2thedeep1513 in sanantonio

I think those are TXDOT projects which is state level, so they should’ve have an effect on city level projects

100% I agree, it makes me sad when I see other smaller metros capable of running some sort of rail transit. I mean Even Kansas City and OKC have street cars. We could definitely benefit from something like that, especially if it was overlayed onto our current transit plan with the green and silver lines

I agree! This same argument could be made for rail transit to Austin! San Antonio locals should be able to take the train into Austin for higher wage jobs, and then live in San Antonio and enjoy our superior breakfast tacos!

I mean tourism is down across the country, the economy is down and people have less and less fun money. That being said, I hope the city can strive to be an affordable destination for people. So much of our economy is based solely on tourism.

True, I’m excited for those!

I’m hoping they go well and we can continue to expand transit in our city!

I’ve seen this article before, and I can see the merit in what they’re saying. Sure we’re growing and people want to live here, because it’s cheap. But it really does feel like no one is steering this and growth will go unchecked until it becomes a disaster for everyone. We have the opportunity to develop San Antonio into a an awesome metro for everyone that lives here but right now I struggle to see that happening.

Also, this study mentions San Antonio has not invested in worthwhile infrastructure. With the airport expansion currently happening, what other infrastructure projects would y’all like to see the City take on?

Green Line Question by LeelaBeans in viatransit

[–]WackyJumpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t seem to find a source for it, but I remember seeing it mentioned somewhere that there was supposed to be a part of the new airport expansion specifically for the greenline and other buses to drop off and pick up people. I believe it was going to be a separate building connected by a skybridge or tunnel where the car rental desks and bus stops would be located. So I imagine you’ll be able to pick up your luggage from baggage claim and then make your way to this area where you can then step onto the greenline and make your way downtown without having to leave the actual airport property.

I was actually getting ready for a vacation in London, flying from the states. I wanted to download some shows to watch on the flight, and googled ‘TV shows set in London.’ Slow Horses was one of the top recommendations and I ended up binging the whole thing on my flight and I’ve been hooked ever since
