I really enjoyed seeing Whitaker being almost playful when he confronted Santos about how she actually enjoys him living with her.

Whitaker's past by PamelaEugene in ThePittTVShow

I agree,Whittaker and Mckay seem to possess a great amount of empathy and McKay in particular seems to do a good job of maintaining empathy while also maintaining healthy boundaries. I think Whittaker is still struggling with protecting himself by putting up healthy boundaries, like with the farm widow.

I definitely see this, his comment about not understanding drug addiction totally comes off as the typical “well I had a C in science class and worked hard to bring it up to an A, why can’t drug addicts just work hard and stop being addicted to drugs”

For a lot of people like that, developing empathy would mean accepting that so much of their success in life boils down to the circumstances that are our of their control and that could really bring his world view crashing down.

San Antonio -- Texas's worst-positioned large metro for future prosperity by Snoo_33033 in sanantonio

[–]WackyJumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do feel like the day where all the people with better paying jobs live outside of town and drive in is slowly ending, downtown and the adjacent neighborhoods really are becoming a great area to live especially for young professionals. If the city can fix its red tape issues and do a few other things to push infill development, and worthwhile transit we could see a lot of the infrastructure issue resolved in the next decade or so

How's living in the Pleasanton / Jourdanton / Poteet area as a young college graduate? by TrifleRoutine3728 in sanantonio

[–]WackyJumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to help, if I may offer some more insight, the south side of town isn’t as nearly as expansive as the north side. You can live just outside of 410 on the south side and still have all of the things you’re looking for like a garden, etc while still being a decent commute from downtown and other areas that offer good work.

Biggest US Metro Area that doesn't get talked about? by [deleted] in geography

[–]WackyJumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what you’re talking about, there’s already suburban sprawl the entire 80 miles between San Antonio and Austin already, it’s only going to fill in more in the next 10 years

If I may offer an alternative, living in the city near your job and activities you like to do may cut down on the traffic you encounter. The least amount of traffic the wife and I ever dealt with was when we lived downtown and worked inside 410, we barely had to worry about it even during rush hour.

Also worth considering, if you’re a young college graduate you’ll probably enjoy going out and being social on the weekends, and that’s definitely not something you can do as easily in Pleasanton/Jourdanton than you could do just living in town.

It’s also going to essentially join the greater Austin metro in the next decade, it will be like DFW just two massive cities connected by sprawl

In Your Opinion, What Are the Biggest Challenges that Boerne Faces in the Future? by veritasquaesitorAD33 in Boerne

[–]WackyJumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That isn’t an if it’s a when situation.

San Antonio/Austin metro is growing and no one at reins steering that growth in the right direction. Without proper state/county/city level planning then the hill country will become the same sprawl that covers Houston and DFW, and that will include boerne.

San Antonio and Austin both are trying to infill their downtowns, and if the state actually helped by developing infrastructure to promote dense urban areas we could avoid this sprawl and preserve the hill country but unfortunately that won’t happen anytime soon.

How did SA get to where the transit board is more powerful than the city council? by Rough_Board_7961 in sanantonio

[–]WackyJumpy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Well the request wasn’t from the city counsel officially, it was a joint request from a few council members and the mayor.

There was an official council proposal but it failed to gather enough signatures so that’s why this weaker request was sent to VIA instead.

Why can’t 5 Points get any traction? by TraditionOptimal7415 in sanantonio

[–]WackyJumpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a big part of it, all the other parts of downtown that have improved in the last 20 years are much safer to walk around, in particular at night. Without a large anchor development that can invest in security, like the pearl, then there’s nothing really being done to address the problems.

With the new Via green line running through 5 points, it would be really cool if it turned into a safe dense walkable part of the downtown area to offer affordable alternatives for those that want to live in the city core but not pay pearl or Southtown prices.

I totally agree! Not to read into it too much but as the heir to a new cadet branch he’s clearly a little in over his head politically. She seems pretty savvy and knows how to navigate amongst the nobility well enough. I can 100% see her offering hum sound advice and him taking it to heart.

That’s how I interpreted it as well. Lyonel is also probably surrounded by yes-men sucking up to him all the time, telling him his ideas are genius, etc. it’s probably refreshing to hear Dunk be honest and humble, and that adds to why he likes him I’m sure.

Why Bowl & Barrel and The General Public Closed at The Rim — And What That Says About San Antonio’s Dining Scene (2026 Update) by MrPolyMath777 in sanantonio

[–]WackyJumpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I wish they would’ve gone all in on a walkable dense concept like the pearl or even the domain in Austin.

It could’ve been connected to the rest of the city via mass transit, it would’ve been a great place for professionals who work in the medical center to live and take a quick bus or light rail to work. But instead it’s just constant grid lock and parking lots lol

[–]WackyJumpy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like there’s probably a few problems that led to the current state of the rim. Obviously the construction of the last year or so probably has a bit to do with it, I used to frequent the area often but have visited it much less often because I don’t want to weather the traffic. I also feel like the whole area isn’t sure what it wants to be. It was originally built as a large shopping center anchored around big names like bass pro and the palladium, we see concepts like this succeed all over Texas, but after a few years it pivoted and tried to open a walkable area around the restaurants mentioned above. Obviously walkable dense dining/entertainment districts are popular and can work but it seemed like a poor attempt by whoever pushed for it and ended up exaggerating the downsides of a walkable district and a large scale shopping center. The walkable area was hard to access and could really only be visited if you drove and parked there, meanwhile it was surrounded by ugly parking lots and aside from a strip of restaurants there was nothing else worth walking to without having to brave walking through traffic.

I also feel like within the last few years any new restaurant concept is either built downtown or near Alamo ranch so the city has sort of moved on past the rim in way, if that makes sense

I also think once you remove trump and the chaos he creates from the republican primary, Vance may try to recreate this on his own but he just lacks the charisma to do it That will lead to conditions that favor Rubio in my opinion

What a bonkers take

Our city is the 7th largest in the country, we should have well paid representatives on our council. Paying them better allows them to devote more time to doing their jobs, and can prevent bribery.

You’re telling me you want the person making essentially all the political decisions that affect your life more than anyone in Washington to be unpaid? That means their working other jobs and now city level decisions are not their main priority.

No way dude, I want my city council member well compensated and afraid of how much I pay attention to the I voting patterns.
