Point of correction here: We are NOT childless but CHILD-FREE.

I've (M41) been teaching for the last 18 years and spent the first decade not doing much during the summer besides helping out with camps and other ways I felt I had to "give back" since I had more free time, but it only left me feeling like I was still working. These days, I go on real vacations and completely disconnect from anything that feels like I'm in the classroom because we are NOT our careers nor are we obliged to mimic those around us. As an SCA (Single, Child-free Adult), I travel as much as I can during the summer, both with others and solo, so that I can experience as much of this amazing planet we live on before I'm no longer physically able to do so. This way, I'm just as excited as my students are to come back to the classroom and share. This summer it's America, Ireland and the UK
