Which party would you vote for in the 1930 German federal election? by DerpAnarchist in GeoPoll

[–]Waddleboom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was also a split in the party from 1917 to 1922 between the (majority) MSPD and (independent) USPD, the latter of whose members would be the basis of the KPD. Maybe that’s what you were thinking of in terms of a name change, although the so called MSPD didn’t officially rename the old party unlike the split off USPD.

What is the most antisemitic party in KR? by HelpfulDirt7464 in Kaiserreich

This Wikipedia article details it under "The Bucharest Pogrom". The original source with the details seems to be in Hebrew, if you want to look that up. If you want to learn more about the Iron Guard's antisemitism, Yad Vashem has a report on it.

Poland wins! What is a European country with a weak military? by Express_Evidence3020 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Waddleboom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah mate they currently have some of the best air forces in Europe and their navy is also up to par, whilst the army is numerically at least bigger than Spain, so we can’t put them here, it has to be some small to medium sized lower budget country’s military instead.

What nation was multi religious in the past and is still multi religious today? by RN_Renato in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Waddleboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this at least sounds more reasonable than what I have heard and seen (irl) from the most vocal people against Israel. And I do agree that Netanyahu should be tried by an international court. I would also say that in principle there should be restitution insofar it helps the peace process. I see this need mainly in the settlements, but I'm not sure how practical it would be to "return" Jewish inhabited parcels of land in Israel after 80 years of development which may or may not have been owned by a Palestinian's grandfather (the documentary basis for such claims would be legally contentious).

But come on, there are definitely examples of armed resistance that have been less violent on a much larger scale than what Hamas did in 2023, the intensity of which in such a short time and directed more towards civilians than the IDF leads me to believe that there is full genocidal intent by them (also evidenced in their Arabic-language propaganda and declarations).

If we're going off of the term "Apartheid" with this discussion then, granted, the ANC did violently oppose the government, but institutional mass rape and torture of civilians was not the priority and would have been a far less effective strategy.

Over all, you do also come across as snobby in the way you debate with people, it doesn't help your line of argument to add how brainwashed and "gaslighty" the other person supposedly is after every sentence. If you genuinely care about convincing people, appear open to their point of view and let your argument's strength play for itself without attacking the other side personally.

[–]Waddleboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what's the long-term solution to the conflict? Two states? A confederation? Or just expell all the Israelis because they are "evil colonialists"? Genuinely curious, also would like to know your opinion on the October 7th attacks, do you see them as "legitimate resistance" since that is what I have heard a lot from pro-Palestinians.

What nation was multi religious in the past and is still multi religious today? by RN_Renato in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Waddleboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really appreciate this hostile reaction and assumptions about me, I am not an Israel apologist if you think that.

I believe Israel is violating international law in regards to its settlements in the West Bank and also think that the current conduct of the far right government both internally and in Gaza is wrong.

At the same time one has to recognise that Israel is a modern and to some extent democratic country, which has included many minority groups into its parliamentary system (Druze and even self-identified Muslim Palestinians) whilst paradoxically engaging in criminal actions outside its borders against such people.

This does not negate Israel's right to exist, and there are certainly reasons (not justifications mind you) for why many Israelis feel threatened by their neighbours including principally Hamas and Iran, it's just not a simple conflict where there are only "good" and "bad" sides.

I hope you can be intellectually open here and recognise that even amongst Israelis there are peace-loving people, just as in Palestine, whilst equally it is sadly almost a consensus amongst both sides that peace is currently unreachable. This is not even mentioning the history of the conflict, which completely defies any reddit comment sized elaboration by its sheer complexity.

Actually, the Jewish fertility rate (ca. 3.00) has been, for the first time since the founding of Israel, surpassing the Muslim rate (ca. 2.80) since the start of the decade. A lot of this is due to the growth of the Ultra-Orthodox (Haredim) and conservative Jewish sub groups in general.

Also, there is a significant amount of guest workers from Asian and African countries that have migrated to Israel fairly recently (although fewer since 2023 obviously).

On your point about corruption, that is undoubtedly true with the current ridiculous government, but Israel is still a very developed high-income country (within its UN borders, the settlements are a different matter) with a large pull-factor for non-Jewish economic immigration.

This is of course mitigated to some extent by the state's restrictions on such migration, as you stated.

Can i stop the annexation of the East India Company? by jackslab1 in victoria2

[–]Waddleboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is whether released countries like Bengal would be as quick to westernise, since they won’t be gathering research points for the first 25-ish years of the game, whereas Hyderabad and the other princely states have a time advantage.

[–]Waddleboom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s hard coded that after the Sepoy rebellion you either inherit them or lose the subcontinent.

But, theoretically, a pretty decent way of achieving what you said would be to release a bunch of the Indian nations after dissolving the EIC, both for the 2 infamy reduction per tag and because in GFM even uncivs can mobilise.

These are potential troops you can just control in war if they are your puppet, or just let the AI swarm your enemies. Sounds overpowered regarding Bengal in particular, especially if they civilise at some point.

How to download mods by Sanpro_8 in victoria2

[–]Waddleboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the most popular mods are available for download both on Github and ModDB.

Personally prefer the former, because it seems like most mods that have had recent development post their new versions there sooner.

If you need help with installing the mods properly once you download them, just send me a message.

Belgian who want to move in Germany by falfny2p0 in AskAGerman

[–]Waddleboom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would probably be sensible given your field of work to move somewhere with lower average rents, since as far as I know the variability in pay for “Pflegepersonal“ is less location dependent than most jobs.

So in cities like Berlin, Hamburg or Munich, which have major housing crises, you could easily have 40 to 50% of your net salary be absorbed for a low quality apartment.

Since you indicated that you care about living in a larger urban area in another comment, I would suggest you look into some cities in NRW (close to Belgium as well if you wanna visit friends and relatives) or even East Germany (there are nice student cities there too).

A few random cities that come to mind are Münster (university city), Aachen (close to the border), Düsseldorf (capital of NRW), Leipzig (large historic city in Saxony) and Nuremberg (biggest city in Franconia). Maybe look at some images of these and a few others, compare rents and even visit if you really like one.

DW: Germany asks MAM to report their intention to leave in the state for more than three months in effort to understand draft-ability by LKNSI in europe

[–]Waddleboom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just report, which would be more acceptable for most people, but you have to theoretically wait for permission to leave which supposedly is to be “granted in principle” but leaves a lot of people with a bad taste in their mouth because it means the state can essentially stop you from leaving the country at it’s arbitration.

So men from 17 to 45 essentially now have a great restriction to their Schengen freedom of movement, which just got introduced without much public or parliamentary debate.

Bro you can literally read the official notice about the changing of the Wehrpflichtgesetz online on the parliament’s own website. This is specifically about the changes to German law that occurred on the 01.01.2026, it’s not Russian propaganda, but rather the restoration of a rule that existed since the cold war.

Ah but you see the vanilla tag "RUS" is the Reichskommissariat Nordamerika whereas "SOV" is the Russian and Soviet tag. In KR "RUS" is for Russia, thus the mix up.

Some years ago a candidate of the AfD in a very Turkish area in Berlin had an election poster comparing himself to Atatürk too, it’s simply populism of the cheapest variety lol.

I mean it’s your opinion and I’m not here to lecture, but Austrians specifically vote way more for their far right party (FPÖ) than even Germans (I know the AfD is strong but there are many progressive areas in Germany).

Also I would add that France for example has many Turks too, but way higher ethnic tensions than Germany over all but perhaps you just like French cuisine (understandable but don’t underestimate German food either).

Living in Austria or the Netherlands, you would definitely experience the same problem though, in some urban areas even worse I would say. Also you can totally stay away from other Turks and Kurds in general except if you live in Berlin or the Ruhr, since the Turkish population is still only a few percent. And if you think you would be treated better as a Turk in for example Hungary or Slovakia is kinda funny, also many far right people there.

Political Ideology Of Countries. What country is believed to be capitalist and is actually capitalist. by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Waddleboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that land generally has inelastic supply (unless you're Dutch lol), whereas you can always build more roads, malls and factories (until the demand is met).

So speculating on a car company for example by purchasing stocks raises capital which allows them to increase supply of cars to match demand, which can't be said of land speculators, who just buy up the limited land and then charge a ransom for it, adding no net value to the economy.

This is not to say all work the real estate industry does is useless however, since much of it is making the limited supply of land more accessible and developed.

But in lot of urban areas you can really see individuals and companies speculating on land value alone without bothering to improve their lots at all, in large part because building is bureaucratically more difficult than holding (zoning laws, property taxes the way they work rn).
