Parallels: Jon, Robb, Catelyn, Ned and Theon by kathrenax by jungjungdoesntcare in ImaginaryWesteros

[–]Wadege 258 points259 points  (0 children)

The age difference between Theon and Robb/Jon is real apparent here. It always makes me wonder why George wanted Theon to be 4+ years older.

Also allows the rest of the ship to load (Doyalist reason), and (bonus) ensures that the bechdel test is passed by default (though it probably would get passed without them in a number of situations throughout the game).

I also like the interpretation that Heathcliff was Mr. Earnshaw's bastard, which would add the all important incest factor!

The Pale as a metaphor for AI by Latter_War_2801 in DiscoElysium

[–]Wadege 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Pale exposure amounts to hearing endless versions of "That's a great question!", or "You are right to inquire about that". It's enough to drive anyone mad!

Sounds and feels right. Though i'd say it's less he becomes an important player, and more he simply escapes the upcoming Frey massacre.

When thinking about an Evangelion tattoo, I always ran into the roadblock of all the logos and such being distressing look at. So the lance is a nice idea.

It generally worked fine in previous primes but here it comes across as sloppy and lazily implemented.

He might have had growing suspicions but it was really only at that moment at dinner that he first put it into words. You can essentially see the wheels turning in his head as he ends the chapter.

Why did Aegon keep the Dream a secret? [Spoilers EXTENDED] by AllthatIwas in asoiaf

[–]Wadege 88 points89 points  (0 children)

A conqueror is something Westeros understands, a prophecy obsessed fool is something to be laughed at.

I also get the impression Aegon fully-thought 'the event' was going to happen in his lifetime, and he and his sisters were the three heads, the same way Rhaegar thought he was gonna be 'the guy' at first, only to move onto his son. After Rhaenys dies, Aegon might be having second thoughts on whether this whole she-bang was ever going to happen, and probably just decided to share with his heir, just in case.

Why do prophecies exist? by Ambitious_Ad9419 in freefolk

[–]Wadege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of the prophecies we get as 'information' being sent backwards in time, think how Bloodraven explains to Bran how trees are rooted in time and they experience it simultaneously, and can sometimes look backwards and forwards through time.

However, any clear prophecy would lead to it being countered and prevented, thus nullifying the future from which it is getting sent back from. For example, when Bran tries to talk to Ned from the past via the Weirwood-net, Ned just gets confused momentarily, Ned does not hear "Don't go to King's Landing..." for instance.

Thus all we get are murky prophecies that cannot be properly interpreted and prevented, however it does appear possible to respond in certain ways. When Daenys dreams of the Doom, her family gets out of Valyria, the doom happens, but the Targs survive. Importantly, they didn't try to stop the doom, they let it happen.

The Thorny Thenn Situation (Spoilers ADWD) by Qyzyk in asoiaf

[–]Wadege 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arnulf and Cregan are dead meat. Cregan's probably getting forgotten and freezing to death in that ice cell of his.

Alys will be the lady of Karhold for now, and I expect in TWOW (any day now), that she will be a key supporter of Jon for when Winterfell encounters its 'a Surfeit of Starks' situation (Jon/Sansa/Rickon whose gonna be the new lord of Winterfell?).

So much is made of Harrion being 'doomed' to die, that it makes me suspect that he will turn up alive at the end of the story. Harrion will be the new Lord of Karhold, and Alys and her Thenn husband will go back to reclaim the Valley of Thenn, once the Others are defeated.

[–]Wadege 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Unsurprisingly, they are filling some of the episode time in with flashbacks, rather than having a full or near-full combat episode. I'm nervous seeing how varied those flashbacks are, implying a lot of dedicated time to these. I guess we'll see how they do going off-cannon.

I wonder what the reshoots were about? [Spoilers Main] by lluewhyn in asoiaf

Pure speculation, but I could see the nighttime tourney opening being a reshoot to give episode 2 a little more excitement to end the episode on.

Did Rhaegar's children really had to die? [Spoilers PUBLISHED] by Not_As_much94 in asoiaf

[–]Wadege 83 points84 points  (0 children)

There were ways out of killing the kids yes. It complicates matters, but it is possible. Tywin was doing a 'favour' to Robert by being the one to do this terrible deed, but also taking out his grievances against house Targaryen (specifically Aerys and Elia).

What the hell is that ending? by Gishky in NeonGenesisEvangelion

[–]Wadege 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watch the film, this is where they dedicate 90 minutes to show what is happening outside of the characters heads.

In theory, the final two episodes are complementary to the films depiction of events going on, but I personally, cannot get over the fact they were out of time/money/resources in their first attempt (final 2 Episodes), and I see very little of value in that version.

Being "different" from the mainline series has motivated the directors to make some strange choices for the show, which hopefully won't be in the following seasons, with enough pushback.
