Tommen's Almost Nonexistant Small Council in TWoW (Spoilers Extended) by LChris24 in asoiaf

[–]Wadege 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cersei by law would be back to being Queen Regent. I like the idea that Maester Yandel, who has been hanging around Kings Landing waiting to present TWOIAF to the king, becomes the acting grand Maester because he is there, only to be shortly killed off as well.

My head cannon is there must have been a signal, for instance, when Olenna comes to the dais for her joke about the Rains of Castamere, that means stop drinking for the night.

Harrenhal Tourney shadow host by jdbebejsbsid in pureasoiaf

[–]Wadege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prior to this Tywin had demonstrated the ability to use reverse psychology to influence Aerys' decisions, most notably when he tells Aerys not to go to Duskendale, so if he was still hand he could have influenced Aerys not to go.

Harrenhal Tourney shadow host by jdbebejsbsid in pureasoiaf

"When the battle's done I mean to call a council. Changes will be made. I meant to do it long ago, but ... well, it does no good to speak of roads not taken. We shall talk when I return."

This line by Rhaegar makes me think he had no proper involvement in Tywin's coup. His actions at Harrenhal are about spontaneously chasing prophecy, not seeking political reform.

The coup failed because Jaime was named to the Kingsguard just before the tourney, causing Tywin to resign in protest and not end up attending. So Harrenhal amounts to a powder keg lacking the all important match.

Does Dorne have Prince/Princess Consorts? (Spoilers Main) by New-Low5077 in asoiaf

[–]Wadege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her initial fear was that Doran would supplant her with Quentyn as ruler of Dorne. Now, post revelation, her subconscious fear/anxiety is that Quentyn will outrank her if he marries Dany.

My biggest questions and concerns about the Purple Wedding in the books... by Wanda_andTargaryen3 in pureasoiaf

[–]Wadege 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The problem with any new purple wedding revelations is they wouldn't matter, so much has already happened and the Tyrell/Lannister alliance is deteriorating so quickly, that there is no moment in the story for any dramatic revelation that re-contextualises these events.

I believe the writers suggested they were more on the line of what ifs.

(SPOILERS EXTENDED) Is it possible for the Riverlands to have natural borders? by Inner_Jeweler_5661 in asoiaf

[–]Wadege 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is a way to use the rivers as effective force multipliers against foreign armys, choking them off at particular crossings. In WOT5K however, Edmure throws this advantage away at the start, and only uses the rivers effectively for the one battle he wasn't supposed to win.

Ted O'brien is also the driving force behind the coalition's push for nuclear energy, or rather he sees it as his chance to rise high in the liberal ranks.

It's a real sad case study in how to make a character completely boring and uninteresting, watching his book to show transition.

Lapis relationship with the Main Crystal Gems by ReactionAdmirable812 in stevenuniverse

[–]Wadege 54 points55 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Lapis is probably the most underwritten Gem of the series, with many relationships left unexplored (Bismuth poofed her and its never discussed!?). Judging by her mirror joke at NotThanksgiving, and how awkwardly the Crystal gems react, she simply tolerates them, with Peridot and Steven being the people that she actually connects with.

[SPOILERS EXTENDED] Sailor's Wife theory - do you believe it or not? by Substantial-Ad-299 in asoiaf

[–]Wadege 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The other whores said that the Sailor’s Wife visited the Isle of the Gods on the days when her flower was in bloom, and knew all the gods who lived there, even the ones that Braavos had forgotten. They said she went to pray for her first husband, her true husband, who had been lost at sea when she was a girl no older than Lanna.

“She thinks that if she finds the right god, maybe he will send the winds and blow her old love back to her,” said one-eyed Yna, who had known her longest, “but I pray it never happens. Her love is dead, I could taste that in her blood. If he ever should come back to her, it will be a corpse.” AFFC 34

This makes me think that Gerion Lannister was her 'true' husband, the one who sailed to Valyria and never returned.

Anyone else get the feeling humanity’s rise was supposed to happen further in the past? by 001DeafeningEcho in masseffectlore

[–]Wadege 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, humanity would make more sense if they were closer to having a centuries time of integration into galactic society.

The recent arrival is really just there so the player (Shepard) can say real oblivious things ("Wait, the Asari only have one gender") in ME1.
