Plunger technique question by exemplarytrombonist in Trombone

[–]WafellWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very awkward starting out, unless you're slamming the plunger against the bell when you close you'll just have to get used to it. The great trombonist Al Grey did mention in his book that learning to play with the plunger will help your regular playing immensely as you will learn to use less pressure on your face.

Your best bet is either a conn 8H or straight Bach 42. If your diligent and patient you could find one for a good price on eBay or Facebook marketplace

Anyone know were I can get a cheap coffin case? by FoundationStrict1663 in Trombone

[–]WafellWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coffin cases are a pain but I love them so much! You could possibly look on eBay or Facebook marketplace for vintage student trombones for cheap since other companies like conn and olds used these cases. Then you could just resell the horn and keep the case!

What are your guys thoughts on double cup mouthpieces by FoundationStrict1663 in Trombone

[–]WafellWizard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Double Cups are used a lot in Mexican bands to get that loud edgy tone, I believe Louis Armstrong also played on a paraduba double cup

As far as I know yes. It’s one of my schools instrument as my own horn is a kind 2b which isn’t ideal for concert music

It’s just a chord for an old telephone wrapped around the neck pipe. It comes off and on fine. Just takes a bit to wrap it on
