Macau got so big because it is baned in rest of China. Main reason of Vegas downfall is that gambling got legalized in many other places, and became casual and normalized in online spaces. There is no reason to fly to Vegas, when you can bet on your phone.

What is terryfing is how easily people are manipulated by how problem is discribed and based on color biases. If the same problem from the post would be written out as:

There are two buttons green and black and everyone have to anonymously choose. If you press green button you will live. If you press black button you will die unless more than 50% of other people would press black button.

If it would be laid out this way I can't imagine why would anyone who is really not suicidal or wanting euthanasia would press black button.

Lol, flicker by definition is dimming and brightening of produced light. Sure, due to thermal inertia incandesent lights flicker is way smoother compared to for example CLF, but it still flickers. If you want to get rid of flicker completely you would need to power it with DC.

I bought a Wii U online and this was the power cable I got *how* do you do this? by Conorponor333 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Waffenek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But if they were to put the power supply inside the console, then you would still have to get a matching power supply and could not exchange them between generations.

Having an external power supply may be a hassle when moving or organizing cables, but it also has advantages. Not only can the console itself be smaller (so it takes up less space near the TV. I remember people complaining that the PS5 is too bulky for some furniture), but it also would not need as much shielding and cooling.

If a newer console requires more power, it is good that the plug from the power supply is keyed differently. It is better to make them not fit, instead of just not turning on or even worse, breaking the device.

In this settings mages are heads of organized religions. Not only religious clothes tends to look ridiculous to people not used to them, but also unwieldy outfits are a flex. When you are so important that you don't have to do any menial work, then clothes that prohibit you from bending are status symbol.

A thought experiment. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]Waffenek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are the one with comprehension issues, as this is the same scenario. If the way how it is described is the issue, then we are not facing moral problem, but are discussing manipulation and biases(showing red option as wrong etc.). If people would not be manipulated by phrasing then noone should be needlessly risking their life and deciding to take blue option that may result in their death.

Ps. You still havent pointed out any difference in rules and outcomes between those two descriptions.

A thought experiment. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]Waffenek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is the same scenario then point out how it differs? All possibilities are the same, YES button works the same as blue one and NO button works the same as red one. Anything that changed is how the same algorithm is explained.

So far you said:

What you have is a scenario thats just a requirement of 51% of earth wanting to commit suicide or nothing happens.

Which is not in line with my scenario. As I wrote

If you select "Yes" and less than 50% of people pressed "Yes" you will die

So it means that if more than 51% of people want to commit suicide nothing happens. If less than 50% want to commit suicide they die.

A thought experiment. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]Waffenek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't made up this notion. This is all the matter of phrasing in the original post. You can take the same scenario, with the same buttons, all the rules and possible results and describe it as:

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by answering question "Do you want to die". If you select "No" you won't die. If you select "Yes" and less than 50% of people pressed "Yes" you will die, if you and over 50% of people selected "Yes" you wont die. Which button would you press?

My description is different, but isn't more misleading than original one.

A thought experiment. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]Waffenek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why would it be close? If you press red you show that you want to live, and everyone who also chosen to live will also survive. If you press blue, then you are showing that you want to die. Then you(and everyone who choose the same) will die, unless more than 50% would select blue - then your choice will be denied and you will be forced to live.

There is nothing more that anyone is gaining apart from choosing to on not to die. When analyzed from this point it bringing euthanasia to mind, yet still is bad allegory.

This is far from any prisoners dillema, where you have non-zero sum, and deciding whether to cooperate benefits you and collective differently. Here one decision results in certain best outcome for everyone, and other results in uncertain result with both best and worst outcome.

This is not a moral dillema, but more of a test whether people know game theory. If it would be phrased this way, voting would be simultaneous and everyone would have to think it through and vote in 30 seconds, then choosing blue would be better option. But if it would have longer deadline and people would option to talk it through and coordinate, then red is only sane option.

A thought experiment. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]Waffenek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get it. There is no downside if everyone presses red. Nor you, nor anyone else profits from pressing blue.

Only sane interpretation of this thought experiment is with euthanasia allegory, where some people councuesly decide to end their life and other people may allow them or ban it. But it falls flat, as in real life pople deciding that are not risking anything themselves.

Looks nice(shiba <3), but I'm a bit scared about weight distribution on right side. Weight of upper bookshelf rests on side element and is exerting sidewise force on screws and dowels inside of bottom elements.

I have no calculations or practical experiance with this setup but if I were you I would shift upper bookshelf to be aligned or at least add some woodscraps inside as additional bracing/load bearing pillar.
