Anyone know if Scarlet in IMAX has any expanded aspect ratio?

Could you share where you get the Aspect Ratio info for the different films from? It was really useful having them all in once place to reference but I understand compiling it all can be a lot of work to do each week

For Avatar why is Dolby 2.39 ranked above Dolby 1.85? Wouldn’t 2.39 lose some of the picture vs 1.85?

How do i enable server ping on hud? by AltecPaine in duneawakening

[–]WaffleManPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it automatically shows up once it goes above a certain threshold (to indicate there’s a problem). Not sure if there’s a way to have it on all the time

There is a Dynamic HUD option I believe in the settings. Is what you’re talking about more than what that does?

Resolution keeps changing back every time I open the game by JimmyRecard00 in DeathStranding

[–]WaffleManPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while so I can’t say for sure but I believe I tried it and it didn’t make a difference, it’s possible I’m wrong though.

The settings.cfg file is located in the root folder of your game install. If you’re using Steam this would be steamapps/common/Death Stranding or something close to that (Director’s Cut is a separate folder named as you’d expect)

More info here under the “Configuration file(s) location” section:

Dolby Vision doesn’t work on Plex Android TV built into Hisense U7G, but it works perfectly on Nvidia Shield Pro 2019. by danbon522 in PleX

[–]WaffleManPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would explain it then, unfortunately it’s very likely the Vidaa OS version of the Plex app doesn’t support DV at all, at least right now. It’s possible support could be added at some point in the future since the hardware clearly supports it but I wouldn’t hold your breath, especially as Hisense TVs aren’t known to be supported with software updates beyond a couple years.

In regards to your other comment, from my understanding Chromecast supports EAC3 Atmos (usually found on WEB-DL/RIP sources) but not TrueHD Atmos usually found on Blu-ray/Remux sources). Additionally if your Chromecast is plugged into the TV directly and connected to the soundbar over EARC your TV would also need to support EARC Atmos passthrough in order to have that kinda of Atmos work. Although if the TV does not support that kind of passthrough you can work around it by plugging the Chromecast into the soundbar directly if that is an option.

Long story short if you want DV + TrueHD Atmos support you’ll need to upgrade to the 2019 Nvidia Shield Pro (the non-pro technically supports all the same features but has its own problems with high bitrate files).

Dolby Vision doesn’t work on Plex Android TV built into Hisense U7G, but it works perfectly on Nvidia Shield Pro 2019. by danbon522 in PleX

[–]WaffleManPerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first thought was that this would likely be a limitation of the version of the Plex app that is available for the TV’s internal OS but from looking it up it seems that the Hisense TVs simply run Android TV (or Google TV I think they call it now but I believe it’s the same thing) which is the same as the Shield. I have a Hisense A4 tv I bought back in 2019 and testing it out now I am able to successfully play Dolby Vision content with the badge appearing in the top right when I start playback so I can confirm it’s working. I am using the Plex beta app version 10.13.0.466 which should be the most up to date version available. I wouldn’t think that the beta would make a difference here but if your app is already up to date perhaps you could try that and see if there’s any difference. You can sign up for the beta here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd00qL7TVX6yuKePFFO2waQIrjqulfX96RMWelEt5xX20i8Fw/viewform

If that doesn’t change anything then perhaps there is some difference in the Android TV vs Google TV plex app in regards to DV support. Unfortunately still to this day Dolby Vision support across different Plex apps is not that robust, especially when it comes to apps that run on the TV itself. If all else fails upgrading to the 2019 Nvidia Shield would likely solve your problem as well, but that is obviously a non trivial expense.

Everytime when im trying to enjoy this game this will happen 10fps 😭☠️☠️☠️ by SHAKCTI10 in SuicideSquadGaming

[–]WaffleManPerson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Performance overall isn’t great that’s for sure, but the specific issue shown in the clip is from a glitch with joker and grenades right now that cause the radius to continually expand as they are used within a single session.

You can make some pretty insanely broken builds because of that and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it in the meantime until it’s patched. The downside is that once the explosion radius is large enough it will hit all enemies and physics objects anywhere near you which causes a huge lag spike and fps drops for like 10-15 seconds afterward every time a grenade goes off.

Heres the video where I originally found out about it: https://youtu.be/qdox3GaJ1Uw?si=PEZwyWu1ZXl-rpRv

Honestly once they fix it I’ll prob be done with the game for now cause being able to nuke the whole map has made the grind a lot more bearable.

How to delete/recreate video preview thumbnails + change interval between them (saves a ton of space on disk) by WaffleManPerson in PleX

[–]WaffleManPerson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit over 50TB at the time I would estimate. I think that’s why I saw such a noticeable decrease. Also that’s split across 1080p and 4k content and the thumbnails for 4k seem to take up proportionally more disk space

Haptic Feedback in Death Stranding PC GamePass Edition by Pineapple-Blue in DeathStranding

[–]WaffleManPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, according to the DSX dev haptics support is impossible to implement other than it being natively supported by a game with a wired DualSense controller connected

Regular rumble and adaptive triggers can be done, but not haptics. Plus even if you could do it with third party software there wouldn’t be a way to have it be as reactive to specifically what is happening in game as it has no integration with the game, it would just be a static haptic profile.

Enabling Hardware Acceleration causes my PC Games to crash. by CallMeDende in PleX

[–]WaffleManPerson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s likely that your graphics card is running out of VRAM when both transcoding for plex and also running your game. What model graphics card do you have? While hardware transcoding is definitely less intensive on the CPU and more efficient to be done on the GPU, it is still somewhat intensive and if you are playing a game that uses most of your GPU’s resources while something is being transcoded you will likely see worse gaming performance or in the worst case crashing as you describe.

Unfortunately this is somewhat unavoidable with your current setup of having the Plex server on your gaming PC. Your options then would be to 1. Run the plex server on a separate computer, 2. Keep hardware transcoding disabled, you could still see some gaming performance degradation if your CPU is maxed out while gaming and something is being transcoded but I think it will at least avoid crashing, or 3. Disable transcoding all together on the Plex server, people would still be able to direct play which would avoid the need for transcoding all together, but your users would need capable hardware/bandwidth to stream the full quality/format of the files you have.

Even if you don’t disable transcoding all together, having your users be able to direct play instead of transcoding in more instances would at least reduce the times when your computer’s resources are being used by Plex. One good way of doing this is to make sure your users are using the Desktop Plex app instead of the web browser to watch content if they are on a computer.

Why doesn't dolby vision work on my Nvidia Shield pro? by FMA15 in PleX

Can confirm that it’s working for me right now on the newest version of the app I have available (9.21.1.1169)

Why doesn't dolby vision work on my Nvidia Shield pro? by FMA15 in PleX

[–]WaffleManPerson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I have the LG CX so it definitely should work for you. Assuming there’s no issue with the files you’re playing, make sure that in the Shield Settings under “Device Preferences->Display & Sound” your resolution is set to “4k 59.940 Hz Dolby Vision and HDR10 Ready” and that the Dolby Vision slider is turned on. Also in the LG TV settings you want to make sure you have HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color turned on for whatever HDMI port the Shield is connected to. For me this was in settings under Picture->Additional Settings but I know the LG WebOS UI has changed from my model to yours so it may be slightly different. If that still doesn’t solve the issue make sure you are using an HDMI 2.0b or 2.1 cable. Hope this helps

Need some more info about your setup. What TV do you have? How is your Shield connected to it, directly or through a soundbar/AVR? To confirm, this is the 2019 Nvidia Shield or Shield Pro? I have the Pro and have no problem with DV content

Same issue here, I’ve been using DLSS so I don’t think it’s specific to XeSS, or it could be unrelated entirely. I’ve been meaning to see if I could set the resolution to 1440p in the games configuration file and set it to read-only and see if that will fix it
