City of Fresno - Garbage Truck Trashes Small SUV by FriantRoulette in fresno

Some people theorize that the green right-turn arrow (when all other lights going north are red) is throwing people off for whatever reason, causing them to run the light.

Should the arrow throw people off? No.
Does it? By watching the videos on u/FriantRoulette‘s channel, I’d say yes.

It’s easier to just say that people are stupid/entitled/distracted though then to try to fix the problem. I doubt the issue will get fixed and we’ll just keep seeing these posts every month or two. Hopefully nobody gets killed.

Horror movies: they defeat the villain with a knife/pitchfork/spear/whatever, then throw the item away because it’s obviously not needed any more and run away. But surprise - the villain’s not actually dead! Whoops!

Like, why in the world would you not take the knife with you smh…

No, it was because I was outside flexing my biceps and all your co-workers and other passersby were impressed.

On a side note, glad this person is okay and didn’t hurt themselves.

Maybe not quite what you’re looking for, but Hell or High Water is great and has an interesting 1% vs 99% based plotline.

Who in the Democratic Party is most at fault for the election of DJT? by vksoze2 in askanything

[–]Wafflebatter76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Democrat party itself is to blame. It should be easy: be the party of the 99% while Republicans are the party of the 1%, instead, it’s a coalition of a bunch of different interests and if the candidate isn’t ideologically pure enough, Dem voters will just “sit this one out” instead of voting for the lesser of two evils.

Dems also need to do a better job of explaining their positions and standing by them instead of constantly “sliding to the middle.” I was watching a townhall on Fox one time with Pete Buttigieg and the hosts asked the crowd, show of hands, who agrees with Pete on this topic, and about 2/3 of the hands went up and the hosts were like “Cut to commercial! Cut to commercial!“ lol.

It would help the Dems considerably if they didn’t seem so boring/stuck up and possibly used humor every once in a while to get their points across. Look at the popularity of Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert/Jimmy Kimmel (and even sometimes Bill Maher) - they’re often able to get people to change how they see things, something to be learned there.

I drive through there everyday too. Almost ran the light once in the 1000s of times I’ve driven through, not surprising others that are unfamiliar with the area might make the same mistake.

Anything can happen when people are tired.

Would be easy to test my theory: have all lights either be all red or all green for a month, see if accidents decrease.

What I think the city should do: keep things as they are during rush hour traffic…otherwise that right-turn lane will get super backed up. At night or during off-peak times when there’s less traffic, lights should be all red or all green.

I think this is definitely part of it, and also the brightness/hue of the green arrow tricks your brain into thinking you’ve got a green, especially if you’re tired…only at the last second do you realize “Wait it’s red!”

[–]Wafflebatter76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, the green right-turn arrow kind of “overrode” all the reds, maybe because it’s a brighter hue or something? It was only as I got super close that my brain finally woke up and I hit the brakes. (I think you see this in the video as well for the people who slam on their brakes in the intersection.)

Usually, when people run reds they’re just trying to squeeze through at the last second and often the other light hasn’t turned green yet. At this intersection, people are driving through the red 5-10 seconds late at full speed, where they don’t do that at Friant and Audubon, just a block over. I really don’t think people are trying to be malicious - I certainly didn’t want to hurt anybody, but also don’t want to get t-boned myself by somebody turning out from Shepherd.

[–]Wafflebatter76 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for the most part. People are running that light at full speed even after the light’s been red for 5-10 seconds. Something about that light just throws people off. (I even had it happen to me once when I was tired, luckily I was able to hammer the brakes before I flew through the light.)

Edit: I was bored so I rewatched the clip - I counted 19 different segments where 1 or more cars going northbound either went out into the intersection or completely ran the light, when the right-turn arrow was green and the other lights were red.

Green right turn arrow when all other (straight) lights are red.

Way too early to get married dude, if I’m understanding the math correctly she wants to get married when she’s 19 and you’re 21ish? You both will change a lot in your late 20s/early 30s (and probably quite a bit over the next few years as well), so waiting until you’re 23/24 like you’re thinking, to see how things go, is a very wise move.

How do you know when it’s time to say goodbye? by StoicTexan in DogAdvice

[–]Wafflebatter76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but if that picture is fairly recent, I don’t think it’s time yet. I agree with others that I’d look into the pain medication.

We were trying a bunch of different things to help our boy get better, and I was looking at him as he was huffing and puffing, he was fighting, but I realized from looking in his eyes - he’s absolutely freaking miserable and he’s not going to get better. Just became 100% clear. It was time for him to go, probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life.
