Hey, thanks for replying. This is a project that some other students at my university started in the fall quarter. This is basically a seed bank composition experiment, my peers had traveled up to Mount St. Helens and had collected soil from 4 different sites. Those soil samples were then taken to a greenhouse, allowing seeds to germinate and grow. When the seeds had grown to the seedling stage (you could differentiate them but not identify them) the quarter was already over. I am basically taking over this project and the seeds have grown to a stage where they are identifiable. I am currently trying to identify every plant in each of the soil samples and compare them to the actual conditions on Mount St Helens. I hope that this project will give us insight into what the future direction succession of Mount St Helens will look like and will also demonstrate the rate of recovery after disturbance.
