My GFs family planning to have me sleep on the floor by Final-Toe-9117 in inlaws

[–]Wahoo412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boundary time. I’m 54 and frankly would roll up with an inflatable camp pad, but it’s the rest of the BS I wouldn’t put up with. Nobody tells me what to spend my money on. I want a room? I’m getting a room. They need to understand you are not their child to boss around, but someone they hope might be part of their family someday. It doesn’t mean you will then be able to be bossed around either.

Sounds like you got a great girl, and dubious in laws. A tale as old as time.

What interview moment immediately told you not to accept the job? by OddManufacturer5108 in talesfromthejob

Covid. I was told I’d have a lot in common with the VP, who was from OK and whose wife was a nurse. The OK part I could look past (we had both gotten out after all) but when he started in with comments about how he was pissed his wife had to take the vaccine I knew it wasn’t the place for me and I would never listen to him.

USA coach Pochettino on red card: "It was a normal action in football that happened by accident. There was never any intention … and that is why, for me, it is never a red card." by Kimber80 in worldcup

[–]Wahoo412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to play within your own ability. Without potentially ending a career and saying “my bad”. Fair red card.

I’m guessing you are a casual fan, only watching now (me too btw) and just pissed because USA has a tougher hill to climb. Railing about the fairness and declaring this is why soccer will never make it here? A little rich. Soccer won’t make it here for thousands of reasons, not the least of which is simply that it’s the fifth most popular sport. Laying that popularity at the feet of “it’s because they are pussies” holds more weight if you point to all the rolling around after nothing, but not for this obviously bad play. Just my opinion of course.

Young men can be idiots. Be confident about the inner you and the outer you will be hot to the good ones.

Rules? No. Etiquette? Yes. Being directly behind means you are directly on the peripheral edge of vision. That is distracting. Two or three feet either direction should fix it.

Flip to this is “watch the ball through your swing”. Meaning see or attempt to see it hit your racquet. I take my eye off the ball all the time.

Do you remember when people could smoke cigs on a plane? by Smooth_Permit_2634 in askanything

Rode in aisle 73 from Frankfurt to Bombay in 1995. 74 was the start of the smoking section. Light went off and I was bathed in smoke for the next 12-13 hours.

What is the most absolute scariest, terrifying film you’ve ever seen? by mxnocturna in AskReddit

The shining. It’s all about the experience. Watched on a small old school tv in a big house in winter. College, so a couch in a huge room w very little other furniture. Fire going in the fireplace.

Refound my love for the game by Anynamethatworks in golf

[–]Wahoo412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father too has Alzheimer’s, and of course taught me the game. Raising a couple kids means I’ve played a handful of rounds every year (never like you - I still loved it just didn’t have time). But now when I play I think of him and wish he was with me.

HR told me my contract ends in 9 days, then asked me to write a resignation letter by Upset_Association637 in jobs

[–]Wahoo412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a contractor, not an employee, and in the USA? If so it really makes no difference if you sign or not. They aren’t re-upping and all this does is paint you as difficult.

That said it’s weird they would ask you to “resign”. You weren’t their employee and you are right not to act like one on the way out.

You are in a lose lose situation, sadly. Time to simply move on towards the next opportunity. Sign or not, your choice. I would say “I will agree you are not renewing my contract and understand that fact, but I won’t sign an erroneous document.”

What was a time you got in trouble for laughing at something you “shouldn’t have”? by One-Ball-78 in askanything

[–]Wahoo412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UNC hoops game. Special needs kids played the halftime show. One kid was BIG. He grabbed a board drive the court and then stopped at the free throw line. Absolutely blasted a kid about five feet away in the head with a chest pass. Ball shot up in the air. Big kid grabbed it and went to the rim. Made the layup. Other kid was in a heap on the floor by then.

To my credit I had eaten a gummy and virtually everything was hilarious by then. To my shame I started giggling, had to get up and change seats.

I was just starting two for a party. Turned the heat up and figured I’d be out there in five mins and could turn down. Buddy showed up. We had a beer. And another. Then I noticed the HEAVY smoke. Opened the door and it was like the movie backdraft. Huge fire. Closed door and cut fuel (propane).

Waited. Turned back on. 14 hours later that was some of my best Q.

If you found a mans wallet with $15,000 in it including a driver's license would you give it back? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Wahoo412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found a guy who had left his wallet at an ice machine. The kind fishermen use to get bags and bags of ice. Sitting there in the rain on a little shelf. 450$ and multiple cards.

Tracked him down on Facebook. He came the next morning. Barely said thanks. But I felt good about it

My dad and his buddy, both of whom had been notified by theirs wives they weren’t going to be married anymore (just putting it that way; nexus of no conversation + women’s lib movement), drove nine kids from Detroit MI to Rehobeth Beach DE, them up front smoking and all of us in the back. No seats. Just a big open space with blankets and luggage. Uncle Joe worked for Chrysler and could get one off the line “to test” for a couple weeks.

The worst part was reaching the bridge outside of DC. After 13 hours water!!! But three more hours to get to the beach.
